Was referring to trophy hunting, not regular hunting. I just didn’t explain it clearly. Regular hunting is very hard. I was referring to shooting a sleeping tiger.
I have seen many reviews about this guitar and I was not convinced at all to get it. But seeing yours with all the pros and cons, really makes me now to reconsider. I guess I might make a trip to a guitar shop and play it before I push the button! Thanks for an amazing review!!!
Satin top yuck. Better off getting the R9 custom shop. 20 grand for what? Insane idea. Bad reviews everywhere people are disappointed in the 3 grand model. No war marks either. Much prefer Gary Moore to Kirk Hammett for sure. I can’t get used to seeing him playing angry music with it either for some reason. I must be getting older😃
I feel the EVH amps are better in terms of sound but obviously it's a different world altogether. Still, the 5150 III EL34 100W is just the best amp out there IMO and it costs 2k. The 6L6 Stealth is super cool too but it's more of a "few" trick pony (since it's not just a one trick pony).
Great review, thorough and honest and sprinkled (peppered?) with great cooking analogies. Appreciate every tone example. It seems to me the guitar is aiming tonally for sustain with the least distorted sound possible, hence the pafs.
Fantastic review Marko, I love your reviews so honest and what players what to watch!! Eric Clapton or Jeff Beck Strat? Which is the best to get, I have the chance to swap a guitar for one of these, but which one to go for?
I think it’s the budget version of a real IIC+. But no amp should be over 2500 new or used. For 5000 John Petrucci should hand deliver to my house and set it up.
Just tried this in store and it's amazing. Feels great, looks awesome and great value. The new Custom has the upgraded pickups and the new headstock, but they are now putting this on sale...

I luv your reviews!! Total educational and honest. Well done. I know this is apples and oranges but how does this guitar compare to a Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop Historic? Is it a pain to work with the Floyd Rose? Thank you!
It’s the ultimate Mesa Boogie amp, which I think was it’s purpose. Personally, with all the additional accessories you need to complete a tube amp setup, it’s not worth or even really about value. Digital modelers make life so much easier.
Yo want greeny experience ? call kirk and see if he can sell it to you. Why you want something that you have never played? Teste are differents, you might not even like the original greeny. If you like a look and a specific neck, buy it.
I have 2 wolfgang specials made in china. What amazing instruments. usually i say that they feel like a baseball bat (they are so solid) Start the gig tune the guitar and you don't need to worry for the rest of the night1
Keep in mind that Mesa became part of Gibson during the past few years as well. I’m sure that affected the price as well. Have a pre Gibson Mark 5:35 for almost 10 years now and it’s an outstanding, versatile amp. Would love to try one of these, but I don’t appreciate the double whammy of JP name + Gibson name on price. Love the versatility of three channels in one amp.
Hey man. I realize I’m responding late as I just saw your video. I just got one in onyx black. I can’t tell you how much I love this guitar. I’m not a great guitar player by any means but this guitar….it seems so easy to play. I’m not fighting the guitar to play it. The pickups are amazing as well.
It’s amazing how when you like how something looks, it often skews your judgement on sound as well. Not to be taken as a slight by any means, but as a general observation on us humans. With all due respect, this guitar is the same as all the other Slash Standard models down to the pickups. The ONLY differences on Jessica are the lack of nibs on the fret ends and the 3 piece top. The rest is identical, neck profile included. I went through several Slash Standards myself before I settled on the one I kept and several I returned because the neck was too fat - there is quite a bit of variation and it seems on this one, you got one you liked first, which is lucky. I find it interesting how much your tune changed on this guitar vs. your original review of the Appetite Slash Standard and the Victoria you reviewed a few years ago. Last time, all you talked about how was inaccurate the guitar was compared to the Custom Shop versions and how bad of a deal they were and that the pickups did not sound as good as the ones in your Standard/Traditional and how you should just pay a used Custom Shop version. Dare I say you just got one this time with a slightly better setup pickup-wise (not intonation/action-wise) out of the box with a better sounding piece of wood and a more agreeable neck profile. That’s the thing with Gibson - you either like them because you get a good one, or you get a very average one or a complete dog and you don’t.
What can I say...why do these guitars feel good? Why It's the soft V neck and 9.5 radius of course! Sadly, the cheapest guitar with a soft V neck is the Buddy Guy signature strat. and though it plays the same as the Clapton strat (except the body and the pickups are different) I just don't like polka dots on my guitar. Long story short, every musician (guitar player) I have ever known has preferred the soft V neck or medium C over slimmer necks such as the standard C, the modern C and D and the slim U. Ask yourself this... why are there only soft V and thicker necks on 90% of all custom shop guitars?
I briefly owned a 2006 EC Blackie. It was the best built Strat I ever had - however I couldn't get it to work for what I was doing at the time. I just felt that I could never get a vintage Strat tone out of it and couldn't turn off the preamp tone. So I wound up getting rid of it - but now I wish I still had it. Have always wanted to get one of the original models with the Lace Sensor pickups, so I might pick one up someday. Overall they are great guitars so I may seek one out again.
the top has aesthetically something different. idk why.. but i feel that way. i've been digging for a gibson LP custom in used markets. and as soon as i watched the reviews of Jessica. it is like, 'this is the guitar'. it is not released in my country. but i'm definitely buying it.
The neck is the best strat neck I’ve ever played, however…it’s not really a “strat” like Jimi would’ve picked it up, therefore I had to put mine aside. All vintage specs or what’s the point?
I love this video. I sold my 1991 N2 that my parents bought for my 21st in 1996 and always regretted it. I bought another a few weeks ago and I got a lump in my throat. Its not my original one, but the same year etc. I've had several guitars over 30 years but I sold most off as a dopey youngster. It makes you realise what guitars mean to their owners. It is something that always picks you up when you are down , and is this one thing in this world that won't argue back but instead ot makes you feel good.
