The SCOTUS decision does not protect the president from prosecution for actions outside his core constitutional duties. However, since his core constitutional duties include upholding the law, any action that he takes that is not lawful, such as committing high crimes and misdemeanors, which is an impeachable offense, falls outside the scope of his immunity. The problem I have is basically the idea that a presidential candidate can break laws while running for president or participate in an attempted coup after losing office and there is literally no way for the American people to hold him to account. Note: It does NOT MATTER if Trump would be found guilty or innocent for participating in an attempted coup.
