Along with what Bruce "Ash Williams" Campbell was saying about Evil Dead being more over-the-top than your average movie, I think some other horror movies that are also in the over-the-top category are A Nightmare On Elm Street and Hellraiser to name a few, the nature/atmosphere of those particular films is nothing pure insanity! And also, to Bruce: Evil Dead's only *one* of your worst nightmares, the other ones are the one on Elm Street and in Hell/The Labyrinth 😉 lol.
It's hilarious to see the contrast of Raimi now to the earliest interviews you can find of him on youtube, he was a kid who had no idea that some things you should just not say in an interview.
I had the pleasure of meeting them both, and I adore them! After I met Bruce in 2019, he gave me his blessing as a fellow actor, and 2 years later I had the honor of working w/ Sam on Dr. Strange 2. Bruce was very cool to hangout w/ and Sam is such a deep well of creativity
Honestly they marketed this film as a new setting for the evil dead franchise, but fans and viewers of the tv series know that Evil Dead works way beyond the woods. That show had so many set pieces and settings. Everything from the small urban town all the way to an insane asylum. This new movie is just another proven detail that you don’t need the woods or Bruce Campbell to carry Evil Dead. What makes evil dead is the creativity, necronomicon, and the deadites. As those are all core to the identity of the franchise. The rest is left up to director or writer to use those tools to make something great. The only reason these films have managed to continue with good to great success is still Ramis and Bruce and Rob’s producing. As producing is the shot caller on creative decisions
movie felt like it was in a rush to get to the clickbait gore and murder parts to me. like the 2013 movie. not much of a story unlike the campbell movies
@@thiccandridicc Those didn’t have much of a story either if we’re being honest lol it took up to the third movie for it to actually have story and even then it was wacky nonsense.
Evil Dead is popular for the same reason everyone loved the Final Destination movies. Like you said it's the level of creativity. But if they keep doing this. I wonder how they'll do the possessions in different settings? Like a city? A back alleyway? Behind a building?
@@thiccandridicc the original evil dead didn’t even have much of a story either. The whole franchise doesn’t even have much of a story. It’s almost like that’s the point of the franchise. It’s like the original Halloween where simplistic nature is what drives the films and keeps them broad for an audience. They aren’t trying to make Oscar worthy films. They know people are going to get a simple story and FUN. Sounds like you went in with the complete wrong expectations lol
The cool thing about the deadites is that they aren't just mindbless zombies but actually have some volition and they can talk, which is morbid as hell.
well yes they aren't "zombies", deadite was not coming from a virus anyway, it was actually a human possessed by a demon, so the victims still got the awareness and memories of themselves
Raimi's comments about it being like a ride; I've been saying this since Evil Dead 2; it's a rollercoaster :) Love the new film, every entry in the series is "A" tier or above. Thank you team!
Bruce is like a lost 40s actor with the acting panache and comedic timing of Bob Hope, Nobody is like Bruce, he has more onscreen charisma than an actor like Ben Affleck
The movies on their own is a cult hit for sure but I LOVE what they did with the tv series! The element with the movies and a new twist with where Ash is in his life.. and I mean.. Bruce Campbell is just awesome. His humor and no nonsense, like an 80's action hero with catchphrases in 2020. So good. Go watch it!
I sooooo wish Bruce would've made a cameo!! Such a good movie tho. I agree with Sam tho, the audience loves Bruce, I loved him in evil dead and evil dead 2. I love him in ash vs the evil dead. And it woulda been so great to have him make a cameo!
@@andreimcallister1365 What do you mean that makes no sense? Why not? Bruce Campbell appears in the movie in a brief role, playing the priest who can be heard speaking about the book and invoking incantations on a record near the start. He has a cameo in the film.
much love for you 2 and what you created!! The original Evil Dead was the first movie to make me run out of a room! I was a little kid and my older sister wanted to rent scary movies, so we did. No joke! I could not watch it at that age. Later I watch the whole thing and LOVED it! And I love you guys for that!
I always viewed Bruce as a superhero in Evil Dead, at least from second movie and onwards. No risk of him getting killed off with all that slap stick invulnerability and grooviness.
Evil Dead is…my favorite horror franchise. I’ve been a fan ever since I was a kid at the mom and pop video store looking for a movie to rent and did a second take when I saw the dude standing over the skeletons with a chainsaw for a hand and the hot chick holding onto him. Thank you Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell.
I love that comedy is their first love. It’s so infectious and fun watching their early collaborations. All three are great in different ways. Evil Dead II combines everything perfectly
These two are like Hollywood workorses. They have not stopped, because the fans demand, they keep up the craft and have exemplary load of outstanding produced , valued artistry like a machine of vengeance ❤😂
Evil Dead and the lore of it make up some of my fave Horror stories of all time. LOVED the TV series, and am looking forward to any new projects on the horizon.
More evil dead boys Dont wait 10 years again Im 55 yrs old i saw the original when i was in high school i love this franchise i have all these movies and tv shows i just keep watching them over and over
Sam: I think what makes the movie unique is that the antagonists feed off of tormenting people and inflicting mental anguish Bruce: THERE’S LOTS OF BLOOD
4:20....your bloody right we want to see more of him...see even Sam knows the fans want more Ash ....I'd love just one more Evil Dead film with Bruce just to finish Ash's story....
As good as the last 2 movies are, I truly feel that we need Bruce as a character somehow in them... hopefully if they make another one, Bruce will be in it
Loved it, if you're expecting to see a c level horror flick with bad makeup and cheesy acting from the 80s this isn't for you. This is a beautifully shot, dark story, with woven dark humor and situations that you could see yourself in, made to feel all the more brutal with the use of practical effects and fantastic acting even from the kids. (who will need therapy after this one for sure) Also a great opening that set the scene perfectly. Ps. The maruader (won't spoil) is a fantastic addition to the Deadite family and is completely fucked 🤣
If anyone's curious, I can't read it well until I find clear screenshots, but Lee Cronin seemed to have used the ancient Irish writing script called Ogham for the Book of the Dread in the new movie. Ogham letters were based on fucking trees. This series and fucking trees lol. The new film is so fucking cool, I love gnarly touches like that!
One thing that can be said is that these were the Necronomicons deadites at their strongest. Bc usually the possession happens while the victims are still alive. Thats how its always been. The deaths of the possessed dont occur until the possession is complete. But in Rise, the bodies get hijacked regardless if theyre still alive or not. And normally a deadite "dies" once the head is destroyed. But one girl got pierced in her skull and got back up. Thats terrifying right there and emphasizes the fact that they can only be stopped through total dismemberment and "Mulching" I mean good god...
The movie was ok. With that Being said id like to see a evil dead movie showing how the book was made. My problem with the new movie was there wasn't much lore into the book. And i think thats a problem not for the movie perhaps but as like me im more interested into the lore of the book and how it was made. I know they touched on it here or there. But id like an evil dead movie based on the book or books created. And that is another problem since the same book was referenced in other horror classic. So the lore of the book has over taken my interest more so then what happens to people.
There was even talk of how to get Ash into the movie. And he's in the movie, on the vinyl. Hes the guy who shouts "IT'S CALLED THE BOOK OF THE DEAD! DESTROY IT!" But you couldn't have the hero comic relief Ash turn up to save the day. I love the way he emboddies Ash! "Whats the best way to kill them?" 😂😂😂😂
M Knight is a great example of a director who can do the technical but can't coach the actors. Thus great actors like Gibson, Phoenix, Hurt, etc. who require little direction can still give great performances but then someone like a Mark Wahlberg who needs a coaching director like Scorsese or Mann gives us a performance like The Happening.
i hope they just do an evil dead in the spirit of evil dead 2. someone new can play ash. idk i like the comedic vibes more than the serious scary tone this on was going for.
Every crybaby fanboy that relentlessly and senselessly hates on any Evil Dead entry not written & directed by Sam, starring Bruce needs to watch this...
We love you Bruce, evil dead rise was good but the storyline lacked a bit for me I don't know why it just did.. Still a great movie tho, very creepy.. Will definitely watch it again.. I'm currently rewatching Ash Vs Evil Dead..❤❤❤
Three books? Wait a minute... Hold it... Nobody said anything about three books! Like, like what am I supposed to do, take... take one book, or all books, or... or what?
