Very good tutorial with excellent results, although I'm admittedly very confused about the thicknesses of foam for building the grenade launcher. When you say 1" foam with half inch foam stacked onto it, that translates to 38.1mm, and that's kind of an odd number (assuming I did that right). What foam thickness(es) should I be getting to replicate that effect as close as to what you did?
If you guys don't know, these props were made from old M1A1 Thompsons and I think Remington 870s so you could also use old toys or used airsoft guns for the base of this to make it a little easier on you. Plus, plastic paints really well
Wayne Daly the main receiver was a Thompson M1A1 the under barrel grenade launcher was a Remington 870 and the grenade launchers grip was a SPAS 12 grip that was shortened and mounted backwards.
Nice thought of your just using as a shoe piece. But for a lot of con use it might not be acceptable. Most cons I know of won't even allow a nerf mod. Foam I'd almost allowed everywhere.
Recently played Aliens The Dark Descent and it just made me remember I've wanted the smart gun and the Pulse rifle since I was a little kid So, you having this and the pattern is pretty great
I have seen several nice tutorials on turning NERF guns into the aliens pulse rifle... but what about the OTHER famous gun from Aliens? the Smart gun! I would like to see a tutorial for NERF guns - transforming one into the Smart gun, nobody has done that yet! I searched and searched and found nothing
i see this video thousand times im really love it im a big fan of the franchise of aliens and i wonder if you can made to the motion tracker to have all the set to make my own colonial marine and my dughter ripley's cosplay...greetings from merida yucatan mexico evil ted you still rocks
I didn't know you did a M41A this is awesome, had my 2 1/2 year old cosplay as Corp. Hicks at this year's LA comicon we even went to meet and get an autograph from Michael Biehn he got a real kick out of seeing lil Hicks lol. BTW I just purchased the template from your sight I'm probably going to make a few of them. Any chance you will take a crack at the M56 smart gun?
Thank you!!! The pulse rifle has always been one of my favorite props and this way I can make my own replica (and probably a sniper rifle inspired by it).
The smaller on you can print it on a stander printer and tape them together. Or you can get the full size one and get printed full size at a copy store.
Hey Ted, do you think it would be possible to put moving parts on such as a bolt and grenade launcher pump handle that move? This looks so great, i can't wait to start my own! I bought the template yesterday but the library was closed for holiday so i can't start it til tomorrow.
I know I'm not Ted but I can't resist trying to answer this. :) I think it would be difficult but possible. My first thoughts were use 2 pieces of PVC pipe and or dowels to create rails that the pieces could slide on. Some sizes of PVC slide perfectly inside each other so you could have a smaller PVC pipe or dowel glued inside the gun to act as a rail and then have a Larger PVC pipe attached to the part which slides over the smaller pipe or dowel. I think that would work for the bolt I'm not sure about the pump handle. But anyway I hope that might help you and happy building. :)
BlueStarBrony i love the spirit of Makers, chiming in to help when they can! I'll definitely try that bolt idea. I'm working out making a track out of popsicle sticks for the pump grip to slide on.
Oh good, I love that helping spirit too. :) Hmm that might work, popsicle sticks are very useful. It might be good to have something between the sticks and the foam because otherwise the foam will eventually get ripped apart. EVA foam is pretty strong but it is still just foam. :)
Hey I was wondering, would it be possible to seal my EVA foam props and armor with latex paint and seal them that way instead of using Plasti Dip? I'm working on a large EVA foam project and was hoping I could save myself some money by skipping the Plasti Dip and just buying a quart of latex paint in the color I need.
Hi, Ted love your work, just wanted to give you some useless info you kept calling the part of the rifle that holds the ammo a clip the correct name for it is a magazine a clip is not used anymore on most modern rifles. A clip looks like a thin piece of flat metal that holds the bullet shell from the back and is usually inserted from the top of the rifle to help hold the bullets to allow you to push the bullets down into the fixed magazine. In modern rifles, the magazines are usually detachable and look more like a long candy box from a movie theater and you load the bullets into the magazine then you insert that magazine most commonly into the bottom of the rifle. Google Magazine vs clip a lot of images will come up to help you picture what I sadly tried to describe, well like I said useless info use it or not its no big deal, but thought I would share it with you. Keep up the great work, its because of you that I got into building my own props for my Children.
