1978 motor with 11 pitch aluminum propeller. Boat was 1448 Generation III, riveted, with 2 persons and dog, marine battery and 3 gallons of gas. Tops 27 MPH.
Late 1970s- early 80s OMCs were my favorite era for small utility outboards. If responsibly used and maintained, they seemed to have a nearly infinite lifespan.
Great throttle and stick steering idea,LOL .Was guessing you would do 25MPH with two people and a dog I was close you were at 27MPH. I rebuilt one of those 1978 35HP in the mid nineties for a customer great motors... Well done!!! Glenn P.
I remember back in 1980 , My Dad had bought a New 1980 Mirrocraft 14 ft. Open fishing boat 3 rows of bench seats. Deep Fisherman model with an 80 Johnson 25 hp long shaft tiller with Electric start. Wow , That boat with that 25 hp Johnson was Fast. That lil 14 ft. Mirrorcraft was rated 35 hp max. That was a good lil boat and had caught Alot of fish.
These were/are good motors. The 11” pitch will give you a bit more hole shot than the 13” and the 13 a little more top speed but slower hole shot. A tach always helps.
Hello I have a question,I have a 1978 25hp evinrude,if I take the carb off a 1975 35hp Johnson and put it on my 1978 25 evinrude,will I see a difference in speed ?
A good 35 will turn a 15 pitch prop without lugging on a boat like that. You mostly see 11 pitch props on these 35's for a pontoon set-up. You may be over-revving with an 11 on a light boat like yours.
