I know exactly what you went through. I had the same problem on my wrx. It was a nightmare! I ended up having to cut the hub and axle off of the spindle to salvage it. Good job staying committed and not giving up!

Love your videos n your love for getting down n dirty n not being afraid to get a little greasy under your nails. Insane shafts are the best racing shafts on the market and I just spend the day replacing one on my 08 tsx.

some others mentioned the air hammer trick but there are a couple other things that could have helped and i say could have because i have run into a couple being from rust country that were more cost effective to replace a spindle. big tip with the air hammer trick leave everything bolted up to break the shaft loose. the shaft will collapse, they are made to for suspension travel and having the spindle mounted firm ensures that the hits from the hammer or air hammer make the maximum effect. quick tip most cars you can just unbolt the lower balljoint and flex the spindle out and occasionally i have to turn the steering wheel so the tie rod doesn't limit the travel then cv pops out and no alignments necessary. i don't know if they still make it but there is a product by CRC called freeze off and that freezes the part and when cold particle contract and get smaller opening up cracks in the rust for the penetrating oil to work into. this stuff makes PB blaster and WD40 look like a fat kid on a go ped racing against moto GP bikes. the can says to spray for a certain amount of time but i always used to do it for a minute to 2 minutes cause the colder the part gets the more it contracts. then hit it with the air hammer if still not moving oxyacetylene torch don't breathe the fumes hit it with the air hammer still hot. if it didn't go heat it again and try a hub press. they make a press that bolts to the hub which is better than that 3 jaw puller cause you can get even force on it. even force does make a difference. still not going? get a good amount of force on it with the press and put the air hammer on the end of the press. with the force and vibration mixed with some heat most things will come unstuck. beware this last trick is dangerous placing the air hammer on the press could break the press causing pieces to go flying but i've done it many times with nothing broken yet though it is a valid concern. also i always escalate from one trick to the next due to danger and things like damaged parts cause once you heat that hot enough to work, the bearing is probably junk. then at that point if still stuck you can remove the spindle and either soak in penetrating oil for a week or replace. that's all the tricks i know and between them i've only seen 2 cv's we couldn't remove and i've been wrenching for more than 10 years most of which was in salted rust country also to be fair we didn't have the hub press at the time of those 2. liking that i'm seeing more women working on stuff just wish more guys would be respectful of this.

you could also use Tool Slide Hammer Puller Set

Always use anti-sieze on the axle splines. Keeps these from rusting together in the future.

Picking up a set of Insane Shafts for my All Motor CRX as well. Trying to get these 60 foots down without snapping stock axles!

I have changed some axles that even the axle nut super man would of stuggled to remove, then the shaft spline so fused to the hub that ive had to use a monster sledge hammer to break it loose. Eventualy the hitsvfrom the hammer messed up the wheel bearing. Yeah its not a walk in the neighborhood. 💪😬

50/50 ATF and Acetone. Use a metal oiler from local auto store cuz itll melt plastic. You'll hear it crackle and pop. But works like a charm, WAYY better than PB blaster.

air hammers are king for breaking rust in axles and getting them out.

You can use a air hammer next. And it will push the axle out.

For rust I reccomend pb catylist blaster it's like a yellow and white can with yellow top the best

I had the same issue with my subaru and the axle being stuck. I literally had to drill the center of the axle out on the hub side, then smash it with a hammer and punch to collapse it so it would get beat through the hub whole. Then spent hours having to shave the splines down in the hub to fit the new axle due to all the metal left from the old axle

Nice video, don’t get me wrong.. But I’m kinda confused on you saying the stocks are rated for around 700whp but the ones you swapped to are rated for around 500whp.🤔I just can’t see how it’s an “upgrade” Think you can clear this up for me? Or is this really what you meant?

Here's a tip for getting axles out of the transmission , use two prybars, try to get them 180 degrees across from each other. Then you can shimmy it out pretty easily.

Invest in a dead blow hammer, they are made of plastic and allow you to beat on stuff without tearing up stuff making the job harder/worse.

did you guys try to cut the drive shaft and then remove the piece with the bearing.

Use a torch. It expands the metal and cracks the rust.

I had same problem with my bmw bought a 12 ton puller and that did the job

TAE's on ebay too, got a few parts from them. They've also got a real quick Civic too

Now you're replacing those shafts, but i always gets shivers down my spine to see someone bashing the nut and threads. Nice car anyway! If you replacing those boots, you'll have spare parts for a trackday or so.

10:53 - Nobody should feel bad on those. Those are a pain for anyone to do. We had a guy come by with his tools directly from a shop to take those things off. When CV shafts snap and all that fun stuff. They are certainly a PAIN to pull out. But for good reason they are tight in there. Nobody wants that stuff coming apart going down the road! HEH.

You need an air hammer to remove axles like that.

Heating will work but problem u might destroy your bearing in the process

Insane shafts are the same as napa auto parts shafts lol but over price by 150$ extra bucks.

Hope you don't experience the same problem when you change out the back axle rods

I'm not sure how much their designs/strength carry over from Subarus to Evos but, Insane Shafts axles aren't very strong from personal experience. While the actual shaft of the axle wont break, its where the boot/bearings are that tend to break, near the wheel hub. A close friend of mine put their 1000hp axles in her bugeye and they broke the very first launch at 500 wheel. You'd be better off with oem axles or some DSS (drive shaft shop) axles. I hope Insane Shafts have rectified some of these issues, or these issues dont exist with their Evo axles, but anyhow best of luck!
