I'm surprised that nobody's talking about Mena's controller disconnect! For those who weren't watching, in grand finals, Mena's controller disconnected at the start of round 2, and Angrybird with his amazing sportsmanship, didn't take the game and decided to let the game play out! Truly the highlight of this year's EVO for me!
That comeback was a robbery. Kakeru's tools not working the way they're supposed to is not a good turn around. He lost the round before to nerves and then he lost the last round to random happenstance that I've yet to find a way to replicate. Kakeru was 100% the best player in the final 6. If he had his runback with Angry Bird I have no doubt that he would have won and he already proved himself against Mena.
I was one of the (probably lots of) people who came up, chatted, and got a pic on the first day. Great meeting you! Seems like I picked a good year to go to Evo for the first time.
I watched everything SF6 on stream and the top 6 here. I am quite new to the ''FGC'' stuff, like I joined after Capcom cup 2023, but I think I never has been hooked to something like that. I was reacting to those hits on stage. I wasn't even cheering for any of them, but that top 6 was insane. Great memory that I'll hold on to, great event as a viewer!
Have to mention that besides Leffen there was another Melee Player in Strive placing 7th in his 2nd Strive tournament ever. Setchi made an insane run with his Zato
I may not be a fan of Leffen but I’ll give it up for his talent. He’s very good at pretty much every game he’s entered an EVO for and he has placings to back it up.
@@axelfuryofficial8459He is literally fueled by hate, him and Armada used to laugh about how much they loved coming over shutting American crowds up. 10+ years of SoCal hecklers changes a Swede
@@Mechromey We're really entering the renaissance of fighting games. Devs finally making the games more accessible while not sacrificing depth and complexity.
Bro this EVO was TOO big. I couldn't make my way to watch matches, everyone grabbed the damn chairs and walked off even from the arcade, my feet were busted from standing in endless lines for hours, I honestly only played my bracket matches, a couple games in the Hawaii suite and no other matches the entire time I was there. Still had fun though despite the lack of official parties outside the ballroom that I don't expect us to ever get back
The only reason I didn't want Leffen to win GG was because I knew that if he did the HC discourse would be INSUFFERABLE. Good for him for winning, he definitely worked hard for it, but man GG twitter is gonna be annoying to follow for the next few months
Hope you didn't get sick. Been hearing a lot of people are sick now. You know what's dope about this? I don't know if you've ever played any ccgs/tcgs, but I used to love reading matchup experiences, and this reminds me of that. So is apologyman officially at riot or is he just working on project l? I hope he's officially at riot, you know, from the team shutdown. Good to see him bouncing back. Good video rundown. Stay blessed.
I think Evo is a sony event now. So tournaments definitely won't be on Xbox 😅. But if there's an issue with USB ports they'll probably just use adapters next time.
Just to say about the USB port issue. Tbh, that's not a PS5 issue, that would happen with every USB port no matter whether it was PC or PS. The best answer, if there has to be an answer, is for controllers to swap to USB-C or even better still, wireless, yes it introduces delays, but it's better to have a delay than to not be able to play at all. I'm not a professional so I'm not even sure if the USB-C change would actually work, but something I will say is that is not an issue with PS
Ive been getting into Street Fighter since late last year and it was the first Evo where i watched most of it live. My buddies had a viewing party and jt basically was like a Super bowl party.
Screw League, Fortnite, Valorant or Rocket League, last weekend was Evo night, no matter what the stream numbers says. Fighting games are the best form of video game competition and nothing can convince me otherwise
I agree so much and how is fortnite an eSports when there are bloody random weapons and also how FIFA is an eSport, fighting games are by far the biggest test of ski
The Top 6s was wild, but it was kinda insane to see the players that would've been on the main stage if Evo kept the Top 8 format And even though it was T6 for scheduling concerns, they somehow still ballooned out the time with the ad breaks, even when UMVC3 ended 40 minutes ahead of schedule 💀 All things being equal though, it was a great event
I remembered Brian's video last year after idom vs kawano grandfinals and that the US curse still going.. seeing this year i laughed because even the middle east got an EVO title and the US still not 😂😭 i disagree with Brian on old evo wins, its all hard on its way, i mean moment 37 was born in 2004 and the level was insane, Daigo won the only back to back street fighter titles in 2009 & 2010 and it was packed, also back then to information wasn't as easy as nowdays, Japan had most players in top 24 which is crazy, as for angry bird because he's from our region we always follow him and he was very strong and made many big achievements but for some reason ppl just don't recognize him or pay attention to him and i think Brian is right he isn't the showman and tweet all the time, i mean hell before his evo win he literally had 7K followers only even tho he's a worldclass player for years! Same with big bird his Marisa boosted his image! For me i think angrybird mentally is stronger than big bird, man evo was legendary! So many iconic moments! Felt sorry for kakeru but Tokido what a champ! He will evo with akuma 😂🔥
This was my first evo and it was awesome I am definitely going next year the crowd was epic. Thanks to you and all the creators for building this community!
I think most of the PS5 USB port damage could've been avoided if setups used USB hubs. That would be much cheaper to repair/replace than fixing the internal port. No one should be plugging their stick into the back of a PS5 where most of the heat dissipates - ridiculous.
Tokio purposely caused a counter hit to happen which resulted in the knockback that made him dodge the spike. Purposely or not; it happened and is not a bug.
Somehow my gear pools were pretty easy and I managed to get out, but my SF pools had Nakano Sagat and ChirsCCH. I took some rounds off of Nakano even though I was shaking like a leaf so I think it was pretty good overall :)
Been waiting for a video like this from you, thank you :) Very interesting to hear you talk about EVO and how it went :D Also, anyone know the song at 15:40?
The funny thing about Leff and the smash community is that people like Lordknight also got started in smash. Void is also a top smash player who crossed over to get top eight at an evo.
Leffen isn't just a melee player, he's The Melee Player™. He has a longstanding reputation for being kind of a jackass, both outside and inside his community (especially in the first few years of his career, from what I've heard). As someone who's never paid much attention to him (and who doesn't know him personally, either), I can't personally say how much he's earned this reputation, all I know is that it's a pervasive one. Results nor not, earning respect will continue to be an uphill battle. Also, winning with the western Strive community's most despised and disrespected character, on back-to-back infamously favorable matchups, was kind of a deflation I'm not gonna lie. At least when the same character won last year, Grand Finals went 3-2 on a somewhat closer matchup. Leffen still fucking earned it without question; matchups or not, his opponents were not free. But it's hard to really see that as a spectator.
There were 2 twitch channels streaming SF6 matches, pools and up throughout the multiple days. It was evo4 and evo7 i believe. Last day finals was just evo.
Marvel coming back on a big stage was worth it, if only just to see a new generation get exposed to it and get very confused and mad. At least one person was calling for a balance patch.
Prize pool was so low. 20K for 1st for such a big event just feels like a joke. All the time investment and focus to train to place high for such a small amount. You can make 32K a year working a $15 an hour min wage job. And that's just Street fighter, the rest weren't even close to decent prize pools.
This evo did feel different. And it made me think, I used to play a lot of NHL before fighting games and for a season or two, there used to be “relive or recreate moments” you could play that would allow you to relive or change big moments in NHL seasons prior. Evo, and to an extent street fighter league, will hopefully inspire Capcom to play with the battlehub in SF6 and offer those moments somewhere down the line.
I literslly *just* came to the conclusion that controller technology has taken a major step back in the past 10 years. I came to this conclusion after having a WIRE that went into my Ps5 controller plugged into the tournament's ps5, but I was actually hitting buttons on a setup 20 feet away due to Bluetooth garbage. Utter insanity that the controller would even be *considering* Bluetooth in the slightest when I have it physically connected to a device in the first place, the gaming industry really needs to wake up already 😢
So what happened on Saturday? I had you in my Marvel pool and there was a conflict with R2 in SF6 and we held off DQ'ing for a while. < posting before watching the video so hopefully you'll have an answer.
The most shoking thing to me Is: how does One Person have enough time to get jacked like AngryBird and still put enough time into a fighting game and become Evo Champion? 😭 This man dude...
Knee is still goat of Tekken overall But Arslan is the T7 GOAT But makes you wonder if pakistan/arslan has the same opportunity korea/knee has will arslan be even more dominant than knee in his timespan and be an even greater God of Tekken
i don't like Mena using whatsapp on evo's main stage Live in competitive environment taking advantage in every way possible i think cellphone should be banned in top 6 i'm happy for Angrybird he got it
Can we please see more gameplay than Reaction man! I love your JP gameplay so much but its SO LITTLE... i feel like you're going to make me die from gameplay starvation!
Was really hoping for Punk as he is the one that got me into SF6 which is my first SF game. Joined the evo stream in winners finals, heard he hadnt lost a game, proceeds to lose and get reversed swept. Maybe i shouldnt have watched
10:16 PS5 adds _less_ additional latency vs. PC than PS4 did, at *tournament* framerates. This doesn't mean it's the same. The difference is still a good 2+ frames, and Playstation is _still_ the laggiest platform you can play SF6 on. But like others said, Sony owns EVO, so EVO is stuck with them. Capcom Cup, on the other hand, _already_ went PC last time, and they'll surely do it again.
