It's worth mentioning, in the case of San andreas, the reactions of gangs depend of the stage of the game. In the beggining, they don't recognize Carl at first, since he hasn't been representing the gang since 5 years. The gangs start following you, harassing you and asking you if you are part of a gang, wich you can answer. Regardles, if you stay around for a while, they will actually start atacking. After you complete a few missions and you are capable of defending yourself, is that they actually start attacking you on sight. I in particular, found it a pretty fascinating anti-frustration gameplay desing choice, given how vulnerable CJ is on the beggining.
A lot of RU-vid videos cherrypick against GTA V whenever they compare it to older GTAs. They never include these things which gives them the idea that GTA V is the worst GTA.

I think it's worth mentioning that gangs in GTA III get better weapons as the story progresses. For example Mafia members start with pistols but later use shotguns while Cartel gets some AKs to use with their UZIs. In other games only protagonist's gangs upgrade their weapons.
Oh, and the Ammunation in the second island becomes 'inaccessible' by safe means because the Yardies are kinda guarding it, and it's way harder to defend yourself from melee weapon-carrying characters unlike in GTA:SA.
Yes in GTA 3 once The Mob got ahold of shotguns you couldn't ride thru their hood they would blow you damn car up but if you change into the npc the old guy with a hat they wouldn't mess with him.

Going unconscious doesnt take away your memory (depending on the way you become unconscious) you just are extremely disoriented and will eventually be able to process what's going on within maybe a few minutes

Still way better than GTA V. In GTA San Andreas they really have a bad aim and it's a big advantage for us. While in GTA V, they have a great aim, way better than our. And it's annoying in my opinion because they can easily catch you even when you're in the car. The NPCs and even the cops have like aimbot, I don't think it's an improvement...
GTA Sa fact: All the gang members will ask CJ where he from and if answered positively (accepting you're from Grove) all of them will attack you. Plus Ballas will do the same till Drive-By (or drive through I don't remember) is completed. After that, they will shoot on sight. So technically GTA SA has the best gang logic.
GTA 3 too because gangs will start atacking Claude after certain missions, for example the assassination of the mafia boss would make the mafia hunt Claude which kinda makes sense

For the Vs Rival Gangs test on GTA5, that is actually their standard reaction. If they hear gunshots be it from a pedestrian, police etc they will open fire on the person rather because they're in a gang. From what I've seen the Davis Gang lets Ballas roll into their territory unless provoked.
Its because Franklin are member of Grove,so that mean they will attack Franklin. While for T and M,they simply ignore because T and M are simply a protagonist with no gangs
And at the same time, only if your character is Trevor and you pass by a group of the Lost MC members, they start attacking you right away. This won't happen if you are controlling another character
GTA gangs in GTA 3, Vice city and San Andreas: Have infinite revives but can't aim and jump over things to save their lives and run into walls. Gangs in GTA 5: Get shot once and die but sometimes get up and paramedics come and go
