Kazuma Kaneko (金子 一馬) is a Japanese video game artist and designer for Japanese video game company Atlus. Kaneko is best known for his work in the Megami Tensei series of video games, acting as a character designer across multiple games. Kaneko is often referred to as the "Demon Artist" due to his artistic ability to represent otherworldly and demonic forms.
Official Artbook works of Kaneko can be seen in:
Artbook series (1, 9, 3): amzn.to/45E8T8y , amzn.to/3oAHIuL , amzn.to/3WHhCmh
There are more of SMT related artbooks; like Shin Megami Tensei IV: amzn.to/3IOyFwQ , but these are mainly covered by other artist like Masayuki Doi.

About the SMT Artist:
Kaneko's artistic journey began as an animator, but due to low pay rates, he was hesitant to continue. However, after playing Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei, he joined Atlus in 1988, inspired by the game's dark tone and the interplay of order and chaos. His early project, King of Kings, played a significant role in shaping his future designs for the Shin Megami Tensei series. Known for his dark personality and interest in fashion, Kaneko often wore black clothing and sunglasses during professional appearances. He drew inspiration from various mythologies and ancient artifacts for his character and demon designs, particularly Native American mythology. Kaneko incorporated modern fashion and relatable motifs into his character designs to establish a stronger connection with players. When designing demons, he focused on historical context and mythologies. Kaneko's artistic process involved sketching on paper before scanning and adding colors and details on a computer. Some of his designs faced scrutiny from higher-ups, with requests for censorship. Initially struggling to find his unique style, Kaneko eventually solidified his artistic works.

Kazuma Kaneko is a awesome character artist. I liked his response when he was asked about his character designs and he said that he liked to design characters that looked relatable to people to show that normal everyday people can be heroes too and that somebody doesn't have to be a legendary hero to make a big difference in the world, but a normal everyday person can make a big difference in the world themselves too.

It is cool, yet makes my skin crawl sometimes for unknown personal reasons. I think it is something with the eyes.

Thanks Pollymacho, and I was a bit amazed on the low number of YT videos on Kazuma, he deserves way more.

I've recently started getting into drawing (on and off my whole life, gotten serious lately, want to make a comic book). Both Kaneko and Hirohiko Araki are my two biggest inspirations just because of how different their styles are. Kaneko, especially during the PS2 area, seems to treat his characters like clay dolls or manakins almost. Meanwhile, it's been stated plenty of times that Araki bases his style on Roman and Greek statues. Fun fact, Araki and Kaneko were roommates at one point, which is more than likely why Persona and JoJo ended up having similar concepts.

I appreciate the effort here, thank you for doing a video on Kaneko, but it's worth mentioning for the future: it's Eternal "Puhn"ishment, not "pern".

Though I feel this video downplays just how important he was to Atlus and SMT as a whole as he was not only a character and art designer, but also frequently a director and provided the central concept and ideas for several titles. His absence is a pretty big part of why SMT games made from IV and beyond feel so different from what came before. It was not just the art, but the creative minds behind it as well. Also, you missed his contributions to Super Robot Wars as well as the Jiken series of books.
