I was first introduced to Reggaeton when I was living in Puerto Rico. I didn't get into it until 2002 when I was a teenager. Even before Daddy Yankee came out with Gasolina. I knew of Daddy Yankee and many other Reggaeton artists cause I was already listening to the genre before Reggaeton started to go mainstream. I'm 35 now, and I still listen to reggaeton even the old school Reggaeton. I have been into Reggaeton for 20+ years now.
In terms of reach, Gasolina has them all beat. That song was so huge here in New York that they played it on regular radio stations not just Spanish stations.
I’m not of Hispanic origin but I had a lot of friends that were and remember most of the top 5 were played at most events 💃🏾. I always enjoyed dancing to Reggaeton music! 😊.
Nothing will beat Gasolina. It brings back so many memories. I don’t speak Spanish and I had alot of Spanish speaking friends who introduced me to Reggaeton. I was probably the only non Spanish speaking person jamming out to Reggaeton in my small town in Tennessee 😅 now I live in Miami and it’s kind of surreal to hear it everywhere. I’m glad other types of music are becoming more popular now like Reggaeton and K-Pop, because back in the early 2000s, you were seen as weird if you liked the type of music and didn’t even know the language 🤷🏻♀️
Hispanics have a minimum of 30% white genetics, so they're not that far from us. Plus most latin American countries have majority white populations lol
