Nice review as always. I'm just glad I've finished having to go to site. I have always had a mitre saw since the 80's when elu was the kid on the block had both a the slider and the flip saw in thoses days but must confess my last one was the Titan from screwfix had that for 6 yrs with no problems cost less than £100 and it's still going ( left it for the new owner of our old house in the workshop along with the Titan track saw). So now my retierment will consist of cad designing with output to 3d resin printers and a laser cutter for all things for model railways. I might even start doing utube vids to show case my messups :-). Keep up the reviews always like to tune in.

I run the old SMS255, it's been decent overall, but the laser is, as stated, a waste of time, the shadow line looks excellent, and would also give a quick reference for set up/fine tuning, the skirt also looks useful, when trench cutting sawdust builds up on the depth stop (which is a terrible design anyway), if they put those features on the corded version I'd buy one tomorrow, but £650 for a battery version when I always have mains power available isn't about to happen...
@CasualDIY

Hopefully they will add a corded version as well 👍

First of all, a great review, very in-depth and a definite help to those considering this 👍 It might be good, but how much better than a 305mm double bevel corded equivalent for between £250 and £400! £450 for a 255mm saw is bad enough, but they then want another £200 for two batteries and a charger ... I think the phrase 'a fool and their money are easily parted' is a perfect use for this saw 🤣 Also, why don't they do an adapter/power pack which allows it to be used with the mains?
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY Месяц назад
Not seen any make having such an adapter but that would be a very cool thing! And so useful 👌
@willholt100
@willholt100 Месяц назад
It's the cheapest cordless saw in it's class with this spec, and yes you can get a corded one cheaper but you can say that about literally every single cordless tool. There's no AC/DC adaptor available, but we are considering it. However this isn't a cheap or easy thing to accomplish, and if/when we do it we'll then get people moaning it's too expensive.
@barry.w.christie
@barry.w.christie Месяц назад
@@willholt100 I'm only giving my opinion, which is just as valid/invalid as your opinion 👍 With regards allowing it to work on mains, how many amps does it need @ 36v, could a laptop type power brick work, with just a simple push-in plug?
@willholt100
@willholt100 29 дней назад
@@barry.w.christie Okay but you're saying the saw is expensive and as I've said it's the cheapest on the market in its class by quite a way. Trickle charging a laptop battery at a flat current draw, (and a low one at that) is not comparible to the power needs of a mitre saw with a 255mm blade with a highly variable power curve and a big cutting capacity. We've had this saw pull up to 60A under very heavy load, it's not a case of a simple plug in or every manufacturer would be doing it. And that's before you even get into intellectual property and sifting through global patents from other brands. As I've said it's not easy or cheap to do.
@barry.w.christie
@barry.w.christie 29 дней назад
@@willholt100 Thanks for the reply, and yes it may be the cheapest in it's class, still doesn't mean that it's not expensive, as are all the other brands 👍 With regards the mains powered question, I'm not talking about charging the batteries on the saw, I'm suggesting ignoring the batteries and having a laptop type power supply attached directly supplying the power. Thanks for taking the time to reply, it's appreciated, even if we don't agree 😁

Evolution have priced themselves out of the market, the battery saw which I’ve recently seen in another video is ridiculously expensive so for what was supposed to be a reasonably affordable mitre saw is now trying to compete with much better branded saws
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 20 дней назад
@@azza1793 They will still mostly have budget tools but this one is for sure much more expensive. However the quality is there where it comes to this machine and I think it can easily compete with higher ranked brands. However they would have to work on their brand awareness as they are associated with budget tools.

Hi Tomasz, as a beginner and if you have a table saw and have made a crosscut sled, would you buy a Mitre Saw or a jointer\thicker as your second main tool?
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 15 дней назад
Hmm depends what would be your next project and if you are buying rough lumber or planed. Invest I a tool you would need more for your next few projects. I quite often cut 3m long boards on my mitre saw, that would be highly problematic to do on my table saw due to the size of my workshop.

£650..hmm... I do like Evolution approach to warranty issues and they are really fast to send the replacement parts, but the brand cannot yet escape the "cheap tool" brand. 650 is quite steep.
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY Месяц назад
That's true, I think that may be a problem for them for a while. However this saw is definitely worth it. Its for sure on much higher quality level and same with features it has. Its as good or better as those brands that we think are good, like Dewalt, Bosch and so on. So far had this saw for about two months and I have to say it's brilliant.

@CasualDIY they do some of the tools exceptionally well -like my EVO steel chopsaw CPS(?) It allows to cut literally razorblade thin, parallel slices of thick stock and hold the angles very well. Would you mind going a step forward and testing acute/obtuse/right angle cut accuracy, blade wobble, holding those parameters for repeated angular cuts, please? I need to see reliability, because as for now I would probably stick to Makita.
