Miter Gauge Upgrade for Evolution Rage 5S Table Saw
In this video I will be upgrading the miter gauge that comes as standard with the table saw Rage 5S. Its a simple upgrade however it gives a new life to the miter gauge on this saw. Its very useful and helps in getting a lot of cuts to a high precision and quality.

Nice build Tomasz, if you want to have a larger 45 degree cut or whatever size you want and it crosses a 90 degree cut, just pick a side and stick with that side that way you will have a side that is for 45 and 90 only, and the other side for whatever size cut that you want to use. Stay Safe 😷 Barry (ENG)

Thank you Tomasz, as ever. Your explanations are always crystal clear, invaluable to newbies like me. Love the idea of HDPE runners, but horrified at the price of engineering stock. Then it occurred to me that all our local (London UK) 'pound shops' sell 40x30x1cm HDPE kitchen chopping boards for approx. £4. I reckon L40cm should do the job on this table, and can get a few sleds' worth from W30cm- will confirm once I get around to trying it out! Best wishes, Simon.

Exactly what I was going to suggest! Cutting boards seem to be pretty solid and should withstand the come-and-go wear. I'm surely going to use one of them as I've an Evo saw and each time I need to use the miter gauge it's a real pain.

Or you can go the 3D online shop route. I have a Metabo TS 254 M and the rail Is 12mm so I can´t use the standard T runner. I found a SketchUp runner design online for the TS 254 which strangely Is slightly bigger (13mm.). So I just had to modify It a bit with the free version of SketchUp (2017) and send it to a 3D online shop which cost me 13€ a piece. We sometimes forget we live In a 3D world now 😉

Just taking out the two underside washers on the handle and the pivot bolts then reassembling allows the mitre fence to sit a lot more firmly flush to the table, stops it rocking from side to side but I agree a much longer fence is a lot more useful

There is an improvement tip: chuck it in the bin 😂. Unfortunately, if it wasn't for the non standard miter there would be some good alternatives for the more accurate miter dial. The non standard miters in this saw and having to adjust the fence each time to get square cuts, made me give my rage 5s to my dad (he uses it for construction so it's good enough). Joined DeWalt cult and not looking back :)
@TheLemartes
@TheLemartes 2 года назад
I disagree dwe 7492 cost me 2.6k PLN, (trolley is around 200pln extra if you wanted one) rage 5s costs 1.9k so price difference is not that big, and the benefits outweigh the amount of money spent. If I had space for cabinet saw I'd definitely move on to that skipping DeWalt but i need something compact and accurate.

Excellent video. Looks like another project for my Evolution Rage 5s saw.👏 One of the annoying things about this saw is the shallow channels for the mitre gauge making it impossible to fit standard track sliders. @@CasualDIY I bought a Drillpro Brass Handle mitre gauge from Banggood as it got great reviews on the Hooked on Wood channel. Unfortunately I discovered the non standard mitre slot on the Rage5S after the purchase. The drillpro adjustable aluminium mitre bar was 2mm too tall for the Rage5S mitre slot so sat above the level of the table. Not to be beaten i resawed the mitre bar using the Rage5S to shave off the excess, ground down the relevant screws and added spacers/washers to the others. It woks a treat now but was an ordeal.
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 2 года назад
@@johnvodopija1743 that's the problem nothing fits that slot. They made it so awkward, I would understand it if they were selling something extra that would fit it but they don't so it's even more baffling as the channel like that must be harder to manufacture 🤔

@TheFazer1992 Год назад
@@johnvodopija1743 the good news is someone now does a 3d printed mitre bar for that mitre gauge and the WNEW one. Bad side is it is shorter than the one that came with the mitre gauge you've cut. And extra bad news for me, is the 90 positive stop is off and I have no idea how you adjust that🤣

@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 10 месяцев назад
Well they all have that slight play, mine as well. however when you use the mitre gauge it seems its not affecting anything, at least I haven't noticed. You pushing front to bak and the play is left to right so in theory there shouldn't be a big problem. However you may want to try and shim the carriage at both ends so its still straight, to prevent any movement.

@@CasualDIY Hi Tomasz, I found your channel a couple of weeks ago ( and I'm thoroughly enjoying your content a new subscriber ) while I was looking for reviews and info on the Rage 5s. I found it at a great price ( £178.00 !!😮) on the Screwfix site, but they said it wasn't available for either delivery or click and collect which I thought was strange. Alot of people were asking the same question, ie. when are you going to stock it again? In the answers Screwfix were being very evasive over a period of time until they admitted they don't stock it anymore and have replaced it with a slightly different version made just for Screwfix. However, they were still sdvertising for sale at that crazy price until I asked them " Why is Screwfix still advertising this model for sale on this site when it's obvious they're not stocking it anymore? It's been mentioned that the Evolution R255PTS 255mm Electric Table Saw 230V (205JP) is the Screwfix new equivalent, so why display it? " I got this reply: " Our staff has read your question and values your contribution even though it did not meet all our website guidelines. Thanks for sharing, and we hope to publish next time! " The next day the Rage 5s disappeared from their site! The replacement hasn't got as good a reputation as the Rage 5s so maybe they'll regret their decision. It was available on Amazon for £358, but has since been reduced to £308! I've found an almost exact copy of the Rage 5s branded as an Excel. It's got the sliding mitre carriage, but not the hi lo fence attachment. Other than that it's identical apart from having a 30mm bore for the blades. It's also a lot cheaper at £191! I missed a chance to get about £38.00 discount. Bugger it! Watching your videos has given me a few ideas for some add ons when I do get one. All I need now is somewhere to keep it and use it.

Rip fence - yes for pieces that otherwise would get stuck between the blade and the fence, like the small runner I was making. Second question - possibly, depending on your needs.
