Is it possible to fix a broken Samsung One Connect Fiber Optic Cable?
This video follows on from EW0034.
We try to repair a broken Samsung One Connect Fiber Cable.
This was not easy and we worked on it over several weeks.
Thanks to Xantra for lending the Fiber Splicing equipment and knowledge on how to use it.

Thank you. I think this is the first documented repair of it. I was not able to find any evidence or information of it being done before. My next video will be concise 'How to Repair One Connect'. This one is about all the effort it took to get there, I was going to give up a few times.

Might be possible. But it will have to be a short (1m or less) and high quality twisted pair cable.

A note on this, This fibre is "multimode" I had no idea initially that it was hence the brutal use of single mode setting to begin with.

how did you determine the cable was the problem?

The cable was snapped / broken in half. It is shown in one of the videos. Original owner said it was chewed by dog.

Possibly a better way to repair these would be to splice each end into a termination box with FC connectors and use patch fibres in between the two. But with all that expense you could just buy another cable!

Yes! That was plan I had for another repair. To See how far you can make it go. But, Friend I borrow the splicer from changed jobs so I lost access to it.

Why did I fix it? Because I wanted to see if it was possible. There was no evidence that anyone has fixed one of these before and no information to help with fixing it. Reading online a lot of people complain about it breaking. The cable is expensive to replace.

I am not sure if it is possible to repair it in the connector because the fiber are glued in place. You would need a way to remove the glue and then get a clean fiber aligned and re-glued in place.

@@lex6793 I don't know. you would need to do experiments. To find a way to melt it off without damaging the fiber connector.

Can't believe that Samsung created such expensive TVs which are deemed useless once a single cable loses connection. 😅 If I wasn't given the 55 in. curved Samsung TV with the One Connect Box, I would've had no idea such TVs existed, nor would I have dropped the $50 to replace a single cable!

It is really nice to have the connections separate from the TV. Much easier to connect things and to keep the TV area tidy.

@@Elecami Yeah that's true, but I think I'd prefer a separate HDMI/AV switch box with a cheap HDMI connecting it to the TV, which is also more resilient! Plus those type of boxes are a lot cheaper and last longer!

@@Zedifier Dang, I'm surprised yours is that much! I'm gonna have to buy a whole new box for $300 soon, and idk if that's even gonna fix it, since it could be the TV's motherboard. 😔
