I saw everything in person. Lokhanov got injured in his bout against Jason Bae during a long lunge, seemed to have pulled something on his upper right leg, just under his glutes. He was up around 10-8 at that time, took a long injury break, then pulled off consecutive wins for the gold on 1.5 legs. You can't teach reach, which he has in yards, but it was his timing that was so lethal. My son fenced him in pools and got a touch, made his day.
@stevep1762
@stevep1762 Год назад
I don't think he will compete internationally given the state of his injury, but might well pop up and do the occasional comp in the US. Without any disrespect to Morill or Thompson, he's at a different level technically to them, as well as being flipping massive. Very hard to beat in a comp where he is under no pressure at all. Did he not fence Derschwitz?

Thank you so much for posting this video! I did wonder about Lokhanov being away internationally pre-invasion, and then being surprised when I noticed that Lokhanov won gold at Summer Nationals. I think he could fence internationally again though depends if the aim is Paris 2024 and LA 2028. Former might be a bit difficult (close to impossible) now but 2028 absolutely possible. The question is: What country? Canada's possible but CFF is in a less than desirable situation rn, but Georgia's the one I wondered about because Nicolas Rousset. The Badadzes also fence with Christian Bauer so that obviously is a +. So options are there.

I think you are right, the closest thing to a lunge happens at 2:30 in the video, and he is clearly limping afterwards. Could he come back? He is clearly talented, it would depend on whether he could heal and stay well, not everyone can.

The later controversial touch certainly looks like a hit from the Korean followed by a second hit to make sure. That may have confused the referee. The Kuwait also flagrantly coaches on the piste.

Not a dumb question at all. Personally I think this should be given as attack on prep for Morrill. I'm not sure why the initial decision was overturned.

The ref said I waited too long and he was already finishing and additionally i dropped my hand to four after the lunge making it look like a counterattack close out. At first I thought it was my touch but after watching the video over I agree with the final call
@wilfie8374
@wilfie8374 Год назад
From what I've seen the refereeing of sabre has been changing a lot. Back in 2017 I would call this left any day of the week. Recently refs have been penalising attack on prep if they are waiting, and not initiating the attack, just responding.

For Russia I think yes because they only allow duo citizenship with two other nations.
@EstellammaSS
@EstellammaSS 2 месяца назад
It depends on the country in question, most don’t really care unless you work for the government and behave like its citizen when in country. However even in those that can’t it’s pretty common for rich people to renounce their original nationality to get one from the USA, and pretend like nothing happened when they got back, it’s not like the US would send an email to tell on them. And if they get caught they just renounce the US citizenship in their home country, pay the fines and just file the US passport as lost to get a new one when they go back to the US next time. It also doesn’t really matter if you don’t plan on returning, the US ain’t gonna extradite a US citizen back to Russia if the crime is “being an US citizen”.
