Now that federal agencies have approved the use of Cologuard, a noninvasive test for colorectal cancer developed by Exact Sciences Corp., of Madison, CEO Kevin Conroy explains how the home test kit works.
Have had a half-dozen colonoscopys in my lifetime and depending upon the DR. that administered the exam, they were all a PITA. This time my DR. Rx a Cologuard type of self test/exam, and it's a lot easier with much less discomfort.
I am the only M.D. in Oklahoma that spent 10 years researching DNA adducts, detecting them both quantitatively and qualitatively with HPLC equipped with electrochemical detection and mass spectrometry. This is the real deal.
This test has a very high false positive rate. Statistically unacceptable. I also fell for this test. Came out positive. Then followed up with a colonoscopy. Came perfectly clean. But my insurance may not cover the colonoscopy since two preventative measures may not be covered. Keeping my fingers crossed. Anyone above 45, like me, reading this: Do yourself a favor....don't do this stool test, just go for a colonoscopy, it remains the gold standard.
I just did my "sample" this morning and now I'm waiting for UPS to pick it up. My only problem is this video is of such low, amateurish quality, it might turn some people off. Fortunately, there's a much better instructional video here on RU-vid.
