Examining the Role of Angels in the Church 

You guys do a really great job of presenting all sides of an issue and hashing it out together! Thank you for this. What occurs to me on this topic is not just what the angels are, but who they serve. They belong to God as His messengers. The name meaning messengers implies that they are sent with a word. God moves through word. This is the order I would say we partner with angels: We partner with God and He sends His angels to keep watch over us and do His will when the situation calls for that. I do not believe we are the ones in control nor should be attempting to be in control of when how and where the angels get involved in this realm. That said, I think it isn't disrespectful to God when we ask Him directly for Him to send angels to help us. I would just caution against directly commanding angels, unless the Lord Himself directs you to do this. I do believe we are in training to one day have that authority and it may be that a few select humans have been given that authority, but they would not be teaching others how to manipulate the realms or bragging about their ability. That to me is witchcraft. Any authority that comes from Our Father is going to be met with pure humility. That to me is the secret to entering fully into God's presence and Glory and in that place authority is given. Seek first His Kingdom!

I opened up Bible app to this passage which I would love to hear others take on this as I haven’t seen or paid attention to this before: “Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life!” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭3‬ ‭

I always understood it that an angel can't or shouldn't rebuke another angel *or angelic being whether fallen or not* because they are kind of like brothers (in the sense that they are the same type of beings). But since we as Christians are adopted in God's family as His children and heirs, we have a higher authority than the angels do. I don't go around rebuking things or commanding angels, that's just how I made that make sense to myself. I would never call on an angel for help. If an angel happens to come to my rescue in some sense, it is because prayers have been prayed to God, not angels.

The fact that spirit beings can take on flesh that can eat and 'have relations' speaks to the nature of spirit being. This appears to violate our intuitions about spirit, but we need to keep in mind that most of our conceptions of the nature of being and the parts to human beings comes from Greek philosophy, not Scripture. Another example of this is the term "soul', which in Scripture is a body-spirit entity (Hebrew is ), whereas most modern believers assume the soul is one of the floaty-spiritual parts, or is the same thing as 'spirit'. We need to allow Scripture to correct our worldviews, not cast our worldviews over Scripture.

Where do we see people commanding angels to appear and do things? Apparently, that is what the occult is all about... Summoning and commanding spiritual entities (often by their so called names) to do their bidding.

Psalm 103:20 Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, That do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his *word"* Does that reference to his "word" mean scripture..? It's true that it also could mean -God's spoken word at that moment. Just an interesting thought to think that Angels could be sent/deployed because or declaration of scripture from a sincere heart. For whatever reason God does allow some to encounter or see them. Why? Maybe because some people need encouragement with the level of things they face. Do (visible) Angel encounters make a Christian a better or lesser Christian, no. My entire point being, that our prayers, actions are setting off Angelic activity around our lives continuously with or without our knowledge. I like your discussions, they get the mind thinking deeper about things.

Interesting discussion! My journey of following Jesus has involved angels for sure. I think of angels as "elder brothers". We are on the same team. I partner with them by following Jesus for sure, but I have heard stories of angels instructing someone to pray, and I would call that partnering with them. Do I "pray" to angels? No, but I talk to them sometimes. Again, Jesus is King, but He uses angels to minister to us. Would I ever "command" an angel to do something? Never. Would I ASK an angel to do something? Sure. Again, my heart is for Jesus, and I talk to Him all the time. One time I ASKED an angel to go to a friend and have him call me. (It had been awhile and I wanted to know that he was OK). And sure enough, he did. Now, could I have asked Jesus? Well, I kind of did. In my heart I know that Jesus is King. And angels never do anything without God's ok. In my relationship with Jesus I have asked Him to show me HOW He does certain things, like heal, or accomplish certain tasks. I've found that rather than the Father "snapping His fingers" (which He certainly could), He uses His angels to do these things. It's been fascinating to see Jesus use angels to heal, to give words of wisdom, to help people, etc. The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing, as the saying goes. And the main thing is Jesus. I have found that learning more about angels helps me know and understand the heart of Jesus more. As Miller said "I have no problem with praying and asking God for a lot of very weird things."

I have a friend who sees angels often. When I asked how that happens she says she presses into the spirit. For context she follow Kenneth Copeland and those type of ministries. I just haven’t seen that as a possibility biblically. Am I missing something?

Guys, first, let me say, it grieves me every episode that you dont pray, ever. I am not just being "religious" here. Jesus said the birds come immediately when the seed is sown. You are leaving a door open when you never pray before or after a discussion of the Word of God. Secondly, I wish you weren't talking about Angels as three Pastors. I was a Police Officer for decades. We got in a shootout, and Angels protected us. I prayed, plus the guy's wife who we were arresting was out in the neighbors yard with her Pastor praying in tongues. You could hear them on the news reel. We went inside and the bad guy confronted us. The guy was 7 yards in front of us, and began firing a 30cal carbine with a 20 round magazine. It was pointed directly at us and I watched the glass and splinters flying past me from him hitting candle holders and plates on a bookshelf between us. There is no explanation except that Angels were protecting us. I stopped a driver one night and it turned out to be a guy who often fought with officers. I prayed part of Psalms 91 as soon as I realized who it was. I heard something behind me. I turned around to see who was coming up behind me (it was loud). I saw Angels "landing" behind me by the dozens. I arrested him without incident. An Angel protected me from a car wreck one afternoon where I was so close to a lady's car I could see what she had in the back seat. I was going 98 mph and she pulled out right in front of me. I hit the brakes and started sliding, so I had no control over the vehicle. The car lurched sideways, went through the median, and came back into the road, still doing the same speed. I slide in a U shape around her and we never even swapped paint. There is no way, except divine intervention, that all laws of physics could have been suspended in that moment. I can go on, but God sent Angels repeatedly to protect me at work. Sometimes I could see them and other times I couldn't. Another incident where an Angel came was during a prayer meeting. 12 of us were lying on our faces, crying out to God for our City. I thought someone came in and looked up. An Angel had come in and was standing there listening to our prayers. I have seen that same Angle repeatedly since then. You guys seem to spend a lot of time talking about how spiritual things don't work, instead of what Jesus (remember him) did in Luke 10 when the 72 came back. Jesus quoted the 91st Psalms ! Why did Jesus quote the 91st Psalm ? What Jesus didn't do was attack the idea of Angels interacting with His disciples like where tbis podcast seems to have stayed park for a considerable period. Sure, I get it. There are folks who twist the scriptures and they are in error. My question is, why discourage people from depending on the 91st Psalm ? Why discourage people from depending on Hebtews 1:14 ? Elisha prayed, and his servant's eyes were opened. He saw the hills were full of Angels. Angels helped the Children of Israel in the wilderness. An Angel went into the camp of the Asyrians the night before the battle. Isaiah was caught up into the Throne Room and an Angel took a coal and touched it to his lips. Peter was freed from jail by an Angel. Paul was told by an Angel how to survive the impending shipwreck. Michael said, We just need to preach and everything will work out. The Bible says Angels are ministering spirits sent forth to serve the heirs of salvation. Why do a podcast on how NOT to believe the scriptures when you could talk about how Angels DO interact with God's children. We are about to enter a time when every believer needs the 91st Psalm 100% working in their life. What has this podcast done to increase their faith for the Angels to bear them up in their hands least we dash our foot against a stone ? Michael says he always prays for protection for he and his family in the car. Why ? Who has had their faith built up by an hour of Angel bashing ? Guys, when Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, he quoted the 91st Psalm. Wby didn't you talk about how afraid of the Angels defending Jesus, Satan was as evidenced by Satan trying to trick Jesus into running afoul of the promise of Psalms 91 ? I am shaking my head right now, wondering if your hearts are to magnify the Name of the Lord and Exult his Holy Word, or use this time to rebuke any hyper-Charismatics. This episode makes me wonder if the spirit of heresy hunter has jumped on you ?

No. You're wrong about angels having to travel from point A to point B. They are spiritual beings, inhabiting spiritual space where there is no physical distance, per se. For an angel to "move" from one place to another, he only needs to enter the spiritual realm and come back out at the other place in our dimension, without actually having traversed any distance. (See Phillip appearing at Azotus, Acts 8 and Jesus in Luke 24:31-36)

I'm surprised to side with Joshua on Rev 12. It's clear that Satan and his angels are cast down to the earth (Rev 12:9). But we read in Eph 6:12 that Satan is still in heaven. Plus, the angel who speaks to John tells him that he's going to show him future events (Rev 4:1). There's no way Rev 12 could be about the past.

I find this fascination with asking angels for help a bit odd, and maybe shows a lack of proper theology. Why do we need an angel's help when the Third Person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit, is living inside us as beleivers. "Greater is He who is in you, than he who is in the world". God the Holy Spirit's power and authority trumps any angel's. Period. That being said, God is sovereign and free to delegate the MEANS of the help He supplies in His perfect wisdom.

Good job....And oh wow..the warning against the "worship of angels" has a modern twist in our dear wondereful and too often whacky charismatic movement (Oy vey!!!Just ask Kat Kerr, the self proclaimed "Commander of the Spirit Force" as of 2014, who said she gave command to a huge regiment of angels by simply saying "Go host!Make toast!"..just a few weeks ago as she supposedly dispatched 50,000,000 war angels to take care of Hurricane Beryl or something!)..... Or Bobby Conner's grandfatherly stories about a dozen silly angels on his log cabin front portch playing "catch me if you can" with him!!..??,... or other E.S. guest prophets talkng about their face to face conversations with Michael the Archangel,as they discussed how the demoncrat opponents of Trump will soon drop dead in or be executed in Gitmo ,after angels round them up.."ONLY if we the ecclessia declare and decree and dispatch them!" Actually it's just like Heiser refers to in respect to the two powers, except we're all still made in a different image of the creator here in the material world and our heavenly self being in the heavens. Hosts are us. Spirits are all those who are not born again in flesh water and spirit. As far as the angels being just spiritual beings doesn't jive with the warning of entertaining people who may be angels unaware. We can be unaware of them or us being angels and visa versa. Ashes to ashes and dust to dust. Adam's line is from the mud/dust. Sixth day created mankind, feminine and masculine, are from the trees. When Jesus healed the one blind man with the mud in his eyes and he asked if he could see the formerly completely blind man said that he saw men as big as trees walking upside down. He was seeing the other side and Jesus reworked the mud and he was able to see the material world.

Elohim do have a form, but they do not show it to you. They can take the form of a human, so saying they are only spirit is wrong. God sends them you do not call them. Yeshua told us that. Angel is a job, it means messenger. what they really look like we do not know. There are some Elohim in the Bible explained and some we can not even wrap our dead around what they look like.

Hey guy! Jesus did come to earth for a 33 year hiatus from being God. He came to example for us his to live in the faith that God's plan is perfect and He is trustworthy. He never doubted the plan of His Father. He didn't need to command angels because He knew the authority God has given His children. Michael, you should be more familiar with Psalm 91. God has already given His angels charge over us to keep us (in accordance with His perfect plan) in all our ways... Jesus didn't change His mind about the plan in Gethsemane, He showed us that there was no other way for the remission of our sins than the shedding of His perfect blood. Hebrews tells us it was because of the joy set before Him that Jesus ensured the cross. We're so short -sighed, we have a hard time reconciling Jesus' eternal view point in being our sin sacrifice from the foundation of the earth. Angels are really a secondary topic at best. They are the servants of the Most High, just as we ought to be.

Listen to yourselves. Is this the mythology channel? I suppose if you believe in supernatural beings then what you are saying makes sense. I don’t believe in supernatural beings or magic, and you guys sound like a bunch of superhero comic readers on crack.

Partner with angels? Not my experience. Didn't Kat Kerr command 100 million angels to release terror on the White House? How did that work? Jesus could only marshal 10 legions of angels.
