As a coach at the regional, state, and national level, I find all these videos to be extremely well done. Great creative scripts for each video! They are tremendous training aids for beginners and something to which team members can refer all year. This particular video is a perfect example of the flow of a mock trial without distracting the viewers with objections or sidebar items. I really like how you made the trial a fun topic and shortened the openings, direct, cross, and closing just to give a condensed flavor for the whole 90 minute mock while still showing the pieces and parts. Very creative. Great "actors" too! Thank you for taking the time to prepare these videos. They will help many, for many years.
barefootin17 please tell me, how often do the mock trial meetings occur in school, and how does it all work? I hope u respond because I am looking into it this as a school hobbie and it looks so fun but I hope it is not a club in school that only occurs once a semester. I hope there are like met tings to attend once or twice a week cause it looks fun and something I can really get into.
Hi, there. Does anyone in the comments know that this is a mock trial intended to show the courtroom process and NOT a demonstration on how to properly win a trial?
Jerry Crow the intent is to show the overall flow for HS Mock trial. Perhaps you could create a video to show the right way to outline the flow by video?
This is literally the only video that makes sense of a trial. I’m doing a mock trial next week and I’m the accuser and representing my home room class, me and my co-lawyer have been stressing out all week and I’ve sent this video to her and now we are currently working on memorizing the scripts. I’ll edit this when the trial is over and say what happened
@@elic3 it was okay but the accused had such good questions and my friend (other lawyer) was reading questions off of google 💀 either way the other side won and our teacher said that the accused was the killer
I'm trying to put together a trial scene in one of my writing projects, and watching a trial in a simplified format has been really helpful. Thank you very much for this.
4:12-4:31 During the cross examination they could have nailed her ass by asking leading questions. You say you could not recall anything about the party, is this true? Yes. So is it possible you could have left the party? Yes. And therefore it is possible that you could have broken into Emma Watson's store, yes or no? Yes. The prosecution passes the witness your honor.
I'm going as a judge next week in a school mock trial in my english class. The defense and I are huge Ace Attorney fans, and I'm lending a copy of the first game to my friend who's doing prosecution. I will feel very let down if there's not at least one over the top objection tbh
Yes. a dozen failures to object, and a failure to move for directed verdict. The people failed to object (beyond direct/cross) as well. The court failed to intervene to prevent reversible error (in part, for incompetency of counsel). The Wack A Mole up and down was distracting as were the high heel clicking on the floor and the bailiff/clerk should have been sanctioned for contempt (dignity and decorum).
@@jerryocrow1 Former HS and current AMTA competitor here, movements for directed verdicts are HIGHLY inappropriate and are NEVER sustained. Happened against my team once at an invitational in Fort Worth. I had to stand up and basically call them out for how inappropriate it was. The judge agreed, they also lost both ballots that round. Judges will almost NEVER intervene for "incompetency of counsel" because they're: 1. Not real attorneys familiar with EVERY trial procedure 2. Normal people who understand different coaches and jurisdictions teach different information Plus, they're walking on brick floors, you really think dress shoes aren't going to make noise? Get over yourself. Also, the penal code and pretrial rulings found in case packets generally stipulate/establish jurisdiction information. These are young teens just teaching basic court procedure, not full blown 3L, PC students demonstrating every possible scenario; let me guess, you're the kind of guy who objects to relevance?
Thank you for presenting such a concise mock trial! 😊 this was extremely helpful, fast-paced, and a fun topic. Great acting too! Well done! It has really helped me understand the process for my upcoming divorce trial in a week.😅
We have it easier here. We have to file a Witness Statement on Oath so we don't need to lead an examination in proof. All we have to work so hard on is the cross examination.
This is nothing like our mock trials lol!! There were no pretrial motions There were two witness stands? The lawyers were sitting down during the direct and cross? There were no objections? I'm so lost haha
I think this video is just for beginners, so like the basics of what mock trials are. They didnt do a lot of the things i usually do in mock trial, but a lot of those extras werent needed
Curious- why didn't anybody object to anything? And don't people have to explain why the questions they just asked support their case? Like, when the prosecution asked Miley Cyrus why she couldn't remember anything, shouldn't he have gone "Your honor, not remembering anything from that night could very well be a cover-up for the robbery". Or am I being dumb?
Not guilty for breaking as the act was not completed. (Breaking in is not the same as having broken in. Attempted breaking, maybe BUT the witnesses is making a legal conclusion (not objected to) not proof of a breaking. (e.g. what did she see?)
I hope these are high school students and not law school students. The clerk/bailiff should be held in contempt. If these are law school students (post evidence) then I (attorney/judge) should not volunteer as it would be too frustrating to be of any benefit to the students.
In our first round for comp we objected to hersay and we said Her say is an out of court statement made by someone other than the deodorant ding offered to prove the truth of the matter asserted Their response wasACTUALLY Hersay is an out out of court statement being offered to prove the truth of the matter asserted UUUUUG THEY MISSED A WHOLE CHUNK THEY ALSO TRIED TO IMPEACH OUR WITNESS FOR TELLING THE TRUTH AND NOT SAYING WHAT THEY WANTED IT WAS SO FRUSTURATING
Under influence of alcohol can cause he to probably do things she doesn’t remember. Btw the defense didn’t have “friends” as a witness to prove that she was at the party.
We have to take into account that a single witness who swears on oath is not remotely enough evidence to prove someone's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Anyone can just lie and falsify stories.
Ty FlyYoung Neither Emma Watson nor Miley Cyrus is qualified enough to be an expert witness! However, if you agree that good expert witnesses help make a compelling, factual case and often lead to mock trial win, then you would be correct.
Have to watch this for my English class.... after a five minute google search I found out that these people missed so much from an actual trial.... what a shame, guess this makes my project easier. What. A. Shame.
