Oh wow you’re saying what I’ve been thinking all along. Why not provide both purée and actual foods...why does it have to be just one or the other?! Love this video bc I feel validated and know it’s completely ok to do it that way. I’m an OT and see the value in offering purée foods due to the texture exposure as well as the utensil practice but I also see the benefits of BLW. Also, my baby’s pediatrician also mentioned the offering allergenic foods early and I’m so glad he did! Could you possibly go into detail on which foods and how to introduce them?

Thank you for the feedback! I’m having so many parents who are interested in BLW, and want to do a combination approach. The BLW approach is so incredible for the baby’s development. Yes I will have an upcoming video series dedicated to how to introduce the 8 allergenic foods to baby.

Hi would you have to offer the sticks cooked and soft or raw and hard?

My daughter is 9 months old and still chokes on strips of food - not just gags; she turns blue and goes silent :( I want to let her explore, but every time I do, she ends up choking on the smallest bites. She recently has also been not wanting foods she used to love, and now refuses to eat everything but applesauce. What can I do to fix this?

Thank you for watching this video! If your child is choking on even small bites of foods at this age, I would talk to her healthcare provider regarding getting a swallow evaluation with a Speech Language Pathologist. They can also assess if the baby has developed a feeding aversion from experiences of choking, and do therapy, if that's the case.

It’s amazing how early babies can develop self feeding skills!

Yes it’s been amazing to see how much more capable they are than we expect them to be at this age.

This is coming at a perfect timing 😅 my daughter was exclusively formula fed and had terrible gas until we switched to similac alimentum, which we think had to do with cow milk protein. Now we started to introduce food and I’m super nervous to give her dairy. Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated 😅

Thank you for your feedback Natali. Yes starting the baby on food makes a lot of parents nervous. The baby’s digestive system becomes more mature as they get older. Most babies who had problems from milk protein when they were younger start to be able to take and tolerate milk protein at 6 months. So as you’re introducing the different foods, it’s fine to try giving plain yogurt. Give small amounts at a time and see how the baby does with it.

just to clarify, so this would mean, I can offer all varieties of food including meat and allergic category as soon as 6months full developed baby? this is an eye-opener and really knowledgeable. if yes, I am happy to know as I'd like my baby to explore and we discover together

Yes as long as your baby is showing all the developmental signs of readiness to start taking solids safely, you may offer a variety of foods. We find that babies who are exposed to a greater variety of flavors and textures have less of a likelihood to become picky eaters later on in life.

Thanks for this great video! When should we start giving solids 3 times a day? Should we aim for the baby to eat 3 times when she's 9-month-old for instance?

My pleasure! Thank you for your feedback. Yes I recommend offering solids 3 times a day around 8 to 9 months.
