An excavator is used to clear the debris. The operator uses the Hitachi excavator to pick up the waste and place it in the dump truck. The heavy machinery was used to clear this site in no time at all.
This used to be a single story building which was knocked flat. Unfortunately I didn’t get any footage of the demolition. When I arrived the digger was already in operation and had already cleared most of the site.
The excavator bucket is used to “scoop up” the debris and then drop it in the dump truck. Sometimes the excavator was not close enough to the dump truck so if you listen carefully you can hear the operator use the horn to call the dump truck driver, who then reverses.
Another interesting scene is once the excavator has dropped the debris into the dump truck, the debris formed a big pile. So before withdrawing the excavator bucket the driver uses the bucket to flatten out the debris in the back of the truck.
The debris is a mix of rubble and green waste, such as tress. In one scene you can see the wire from the concrete gets stuck on the excavator bucket teeth. The operator has to almost shake the bucket to get the wire off.
This video was filmed in Cape Town, South Africa. We call an excavator a digger machine and this particular one was a Hitachi. I’m not sure of the brand of dump truck.
