Great video as always Baz. Now from my own experience as a excavator Operator of 23 years, regarding the Dig dig lifting device. Unless the machine it's mounted to is fitted with of hose rupture/check valve on the bucket ram/cylinder then its not fit for purpose. Most machine manufacturers do not fit these safety valves to the bucket ram/cylinders, they only fit them to the boom and dipper hence why all crane/lifting operations with an excavator should only be done with the bucket ram fully extended so that if the hose bursts the loads can not suddenly drop. All excavator manuals will tell you that lifting with the bucket ram retracted is a big no no.
Anyone pointing a finger at a guy for not being shown something has never worked in maintenance. I found myself guilty of laying the fault on one of my guys, only to find out that I didn't train him on the task. I apologized to him and the guys in the shop. I had one of the senior rated guys re-train/ train the both of us together, and then had him walk me through the task until he felt comfortable. Lesson learned on my part. Baz is a top man for not blaming, and identifying a failure in the training process.

I get what you’re saying about the sure lift, but you still have the same problem with the chains binding if you crowd the bucket ram closed all the way, you also run the risk of it ‘falling’ if the bucket ram doesn’t have check valves fitted, whereas on the hitch, if used correctly (bucket ram open all the way) that can’t happen
That Sure Lift, such a good, simple idea. A great bit of kit. Some of the stunts and bad practices I've seen with lifting gear is frightening. Dragging chains through the dirt and across concrete destroys them very quickly. Soft strops chafing on rough, burred steel hitches etc can be destroyed in a second . Hopefully , any serious consequences can be avoided by the mandatory inspection of the piece of kit prior to use. LOLA is watching over us and for a very good reason.
Nice repair on the Crusher .Tony did the right thing. Really good repair on the dog bone 160.You absolutely right a good fab shop can save you a fortune. But sadly most don't want to invest in a decent workshop or welding equipment.
As a machine operator, the sure lift looks spot on, beats rooting around trying to find the chains and the visibility is great as oposed to the quick hitch eye.
A central location for a rack of some sort with a bin for the chains would keep the lifting devices out of the muck and keep track of them. Outstanding device!!!
I like the sure lift kit. I would recommend a clevis/ shackles with a welded nut or pinned nut . It would ensure that some numb nuts wouldn't take it off and used it on the JCB extended boom fork lift, leaving it in the muck.. Especially if you are going to send them out with hire equipment.

Baz, I know jack all about heavy hire etc. That Sure Lift looks a good bit of kit, I'm sure in a yard your size or a yard of any size really, you could have a designated storage area exclusively for those Sure Lifts and their relevant sizes so the operators know where to find one at a moments notice and where to replace it. You could also stamp a serial no into the side plates so you can record its use and when it needs testing. I can see there is a plate riveted on the side but would that survive heavy use? Like the nice bright colour which will be easy to spot. Give my regards to the Director for putting together some great video. Seems we all forget his input.🙃
Finally I’ve found a no bullshit channel and I discovered your channel by mistake and I’m glad I did great videos the knowledge is fantastic it’s helping me another heavy machinery mechanic and fabber with a few tricks I didn’t know and I come from a long line of mechanic fabbers and the directors on point with the filming the lads are a great bunch to have working for you hard working and no messing about looking forward to binging on the videos lol all the best lads god bless

Another good one. The sling hitch u have shown there. Over with us in NI a lot of boys weld on 2meters of I section and it gives a lot more reach for using a digger to place roof trusses etc. one nice feather on it would be to have integrated storage on the hit hitch for the chains. U head cold flue has cleared up unlike mine
Hey Baz i usually make my sockets a lot longer by cutting the "1/2" female drive off the back of the socket and weld a pipe that will fit over the threaded rod back onto the socket where i have cut the female off. Then just weld the female "1/2" drive on the back of the pipe giving you an extended socket. Saves the struggle with a ratshit spanner any day!

Another enjoyable video Baz , what an invaluable tool that lifting hitch is should make the job run smoother. Another great fix on that crusher, yet again it highlights the abuse they take out on hire. But your idea of having them inspected before they leave site should make getting money for repairs easier. 👍👍
Another great episode, guys. Can't wait for Saturdays to come round to see what you are up to this week. I can't believe the conditions the crushers come back off hire in. The operators must walk about with their eyes shut for them to get in such a bad state. I fully understand why it frustrates you, Baz. I would love to know roughly how much per annum the fab shop saves the company. You are well worth what you all get paid.👍
It would take my crew an hour to find all the chain, shackles, hooks and get it assembled. Probably the wrong size, and probably worn out. I think the lifting attachment is a fantastic idea.
You should make videos of how jaw locks work, grease points and things to look out for and present them to whoever rents equipment. It would be easy to film while your repairing the machine.

Hey Baz the new lifting block looks that part BUT lifting heavy loads against the hitch safety locking system in my eyes is a no go the small ram fails hitch opens that’s off the machine then it only has the safety flap stopping it from failing off 5 ton I’m sure will by pass that flap.
@@fendt5163 if the hook was on the bottom like most lifting blocks that go on excavators it wouldn’t be so bad it would be same down forces as a loaded bucket and the load would be distributed through the hitch but then it would get damage every time it was taken off the machine as the hook would be against the floor.

Bas, i have a question. Do these crushers ever get pressure washed while they are on site? I know its a muddy operation but the machine is complex and i cant help but think that a weekly pressure wash would do wonders to keeping the machine in operation longer. It would also give someone the chance to actually "see" any issues developing before a failure occurs. Just a thought. Thanks in advance!
Excellent content Baz, the fabrication skills you and your guys have is impressive, even more remarkable the dedication to work from 6:00 each day and stay till jobs are completed. Really good job on the push link by Cal, getting the measurements and alignment spot on could not have been as easy as it appeared. Just disappointed to see the waste of money on electric trucks, we all know they are a government sponsored (tax fix) fad that will never work in the long run. Hope you have the freedom to give some honest reviews down the line when they get scrapped or catch fire. Can you give us a detailed run down of them, what's the claimed mileage, is there a heater in the cab for cold winter mornings? Directors work 👍
If you've got screener crushers out on long term hire do you not go round and do a 6 weekly service/basic pdi surely that would catch a lot of problems saving down time/revenue. The lifting attachment very good idea great in pink. We used that sort of thing on the rail years ago A real ball ache coz we had to knock out front bucket pin to attach it for lifting Keep up the great work
Great video again Baz and director. Easy to point fingers at lads for improper maintenance on equipment but like baz said if Tony ain't been told how would he know they even existed. The same lad probably saved baz a lot more work if he had let that jaw go through the crusher. Love to see some of these who call out the apparent bad workers do a day in Tony's boots.
Lifting device looks good. But I wonder if operators will just go for the quicker version of get out of the cab to get a set of chains, rather than track across the site to get the attachment, then track back.
Good video thanks. Just got a question about that 160 push links. Have you checked the port relief valve pressures on the bucket circuit ? If they were stuck or set too high, they wouldn’t protect the ram or linkages. Not trying to be a smart arse, just an idea.

Good morning . interesting video again. you are often at the breakers checking the wedge. It's not an idea. To cut your cap and add a piece of pipe, you don't have to turn everything by hand.
