I have been struggling to get an IF statement embedded with an AND/OR formula. I can now see where I have been going wrong. Thank you for taking the time to share.
Thank you. I'm an Excel novice. Watching you work through (especially the Random Between function) was interesting. Wish I had known about that before. Would surely have saved me a lot of time! Keep them coming!
You explained the IF, AND and OR functions very beautifully and simplistically. Helped me start learning it. Please keep it up and also if possible at the end of the video give a simple test scenario that people can practice. This will increase the interest as well.
is it possible to use a range in either the =and or the =or function. my function works fine i would just like to try it with a range so i dont have to choose seven cases. thanks.
+Ralph Phillips Hey Ralph, thank you for the videos, they have been a big help. I am having a problem in excel and i cannot find a solution to this problem anywhere. I trade the stock market and i am trying to learn to do my own backtesting for my trading strategies. I am trying to calculate my profit/loss with conditions so basically i need to tell excel "if this happens, then buy at this price, and when this happens, sell at this price". I am having trouble with this and any help would be greatly appreciated! Do you have a video series on anything like this? I cannot find any good demonstrations of backtesting a stock trading strategy. Thank you!
Hi Ralph...this was so helpful. I have a question. I need an IF statement that says...if cell A2= apple and b2 =5 then multiply 2 * c2, but if b2 is greater than 5 and less than 10, then multiply 3 * c2, but if cell A2 = orange and b2 = 6 then multiply 2 * c2, but if b2 is greater than 6 and less than 12, then multiply 4 * c2. It this possible? I tried to use the logic from your tutorial but I hit a dead end.
Hi Raph! Excellent information. I was wondering if you know how to translate this function =IF(OR($J3=99,$J3=98),CC3,VLOOKUP($I3,tbl_wages,6+$J3,FALSE))
Hello Ralph, I am back again. I have this very long weather data and the column for rain seems to show acumulated rain (mm) and the readings stop at 99.9 and start all over again. Is there anyway I can use excel to break down the rainfall for each day? One more thing, Data records for every ten minutes so there are 144 (6*24) rows for each day. I have a feeling it'll involve some kind of looping, does that work with excel?
sounds like a group and subsort tool. If there is a date value for each 10 minute entry, you can create a field/column for day using the day() function. Then, on the data ribbon use subtotal to provide a subtotal for each change in day for the rainfall value. Before this you may have to make a formula for each cell that looks at the current rainfall minus the previous 10 minute rainfall to get the individual 10-minute amount (not the cumulative).
Hi Ralph. I try the formula =DATA(RANDBETWEEN(2000,2009),RANDBERWEEN(1,12),RANDBETWEEN(1,28)) but did not work. Error your entered to many argument. Can you help me please?
Ralph, good video, hope you can help me with this one. E1 = 10.00, i need this value to change based on another cell, E1= 11.00 if the value of another cell is 1 E1 = 12.00 if the value in that same other cell is 2, and so on Thanks for the help.
Good Morning Phillips, here's my dilema. am creating a worksheet that auto populates employee breaks upon entering start and hours worked. Shifts >=10 will get 2 breaks and lunch every 2.5 hrs.
i need ur help more for this pblm for example: cost of first 20 items rs 4/ item and more than 20 item it cost 9/item. (25item=20*4+5*9 =80+45 =125) for thi case plz help me to find this.
Hello Ralph, have been trying to rearrange a 3 year data set with each date (entered as 10/13/2012) but apparently, I can't fix the day, month and year into seperate columns as 13, 10 , 2012. Pls how do i go about this?
Excel has functions for day(), month(), and year(). If cell A2 contains the date 10/13/12, then the adjacent cells with =day(A2) =month(A2) =year(A2) will give you the breakdown.
I'm working on improving my Excel skills now. Thanks! But I followed exactly the same, why my equation of "=(today()-B2)/365.25" didn't work out the same result?! please help!!! thanks!
after entering that formula of today's date, the result actually comes in the form of date itself, just go to the sub tool of number and change it to number from date, you will get the desired result of 5.48 as stated by Ralph the uploader. Hope that will help.
some business pay employees overtime for going over a certain amount. 1.5 X normal pay for hours over 40 is relatively common for hourly workers. Overtime as it is called is good for employees and expensive for employers, so many managers will work diligently to keep employees from getting overtime.
