Lindsay asked what is the best way to move from Excel to PowerPoint? Do I recommend embedding Excel in PowerPoint, linking Excel to PowerPoint or something else? #Excel #PowerPoint
This video is my response, walking through the different options you have and what I recommend when moving from an Excel spreadsheet to a PowerPoint presentation (and why I recommend it).

I also set up chart templates and find it extremely efficient and quick when using multiple charts in a document. I'm not as big a fan of using the table formatting styles in PowerPoint as I prefer to use paragraph and table styles in Word and copy them over in a similar manner to Excel. Nevertheless, this is a great video and something I may send to my co-workers as proof that copying in tables and charts is a bad idea.

12:00 does this syncing occur for pivottables?
@jackmcdonough7064
@jackmcdonough7064 3 года назад
When you build & format your tables natively in PowerPoint is the data still connected to an original excel file (similar to how the linking works)?
@christiankarajanneh8291
@christiankarajanneh8291 3 года назад
Same thought. I believe so, as once the data in excel is updated, the Pivot Table should be updated once refreshed and so is the chart next to it on excel. So then I believe it's the fastest way to copy and paste as an image and use the saved formatted chart template.

For tables - I would like to know how to create a default table in the master slides that doesn't exist in the suggested layouts with our branding colors.
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining 3 года назад
Great question. The only way to do that is is through XLM code. While possible, unless you are very comfortable with coding, I don't recommend going this route as it can crash PowerPoint if you mess it up. To learn more, see the article here. www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2015/07/xml-hacking-custom-table-styles/

Great tut video. Question: Do you know if we can add a shadow to a row and/or column in a PowerPoint table?
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining 2 года назад
Great question. I am assuming you want to use the shadow to highlight the row. While you cannot add it to a single row or column, you can duplicate your table, delete everything but the row or column you want to highlight, overlay it on your original table (so it looks perfect) and then add the shadow to that single column or row table (which is over the top of your original table). That is a workaround you can use. Otherwise, I would just use formatting to highlight the row or column you want to highlight. I hope that helps!

Great video - Building native charts and tables in Excel sounds good for individuals, but it does not work for team input on shared files. For example, if a team of people must inout data to various parts of a shared workbook, the best method I have found is to store both the shared workbook and target presentation in a SharePoint folder. Then, the Excel soyrce can be linked to the presentation via paste-link or a macro button to export to presentation on demand.

@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining Год назад
When right-clicking your chart, make sure you right-click it as an object. If you right-click something within the chart (like a series or an axis), you will not get the save as template option.

really useful thanks. But I was waiting for something about how to transfer data from excel to powerpoint having built the chart in ppt as you describe with templates etc (a tip I didn't know about). I've always found pasting data from excel into a chart created in powerpoint really difficult
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining 2 года назад
Great question. The way I like to do it is to simply copy and paste the Excel data directly into the Excel spreadsheet behind your chart in PowerPoint. When doing this, I recommend using the match destination formatting option (the little paste option that appears in the lower right-hand corner). You might need to adjust the range as well so that the correct data is charted in PowerPoint. To see how to use the paste options button, check out my blog post here: nutsandboltsspeedtraining.com/paste-shortcut/

My guess is yes, but I recommend testing it out just in case I'm wrong. To test it out, copy and paste an Excel chart into PowerPoint (that is housed on your Teams/SharePoint server, send the deck to a colleague and ask them if they can edit the data. Let me know what happens as now I'm curious :)

You can embed your XLS document into PPT... just make sure that after you do that, you delete all the Excel tabs you don't want someone to have access to (as your entire spreadsheet will be embedded into PPT).

Hi Is possible to: Embed an excel calculator, in Power Point, but to be able to open it and edit fields (cells) directly in Slideshow view of the presentation, instead of double click on the embedded excel in slide? For example, if I want to change some numbers for calculations, to be able to do it directly in SlideShow view In a simple way, I want to know if is possible to set: 3 cells, for example: One editable cell with: X One editable cell with: Y One editable cell with: Z ( being SUM(X,Y)) So once I am in Slideshow view of the presentation, I will be able to edit X and Y and Z to te calculated
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining

Great question. Editing in Slide Show mode is still not possible. The best you can do is create the Slide Show mode view while still in the Normal View. Check out my other video for how to set that up: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hkshwBJT9No.html

how to remove that space 🤨
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining
@Nutsandboltsspeedtraining Год назад
I think you mean the spaces that pop up in your tables when you copy from Excel into PowerPoint correct? My favorite way to remove spaces like that in tables is using Microsoft Word (bear with me). 1. Copy and paste your table (with all the extra spaces into Microsoft Word) 2. As you paste into word, make sure to select "keep source formatting" in the Paste Options 3. Select all the cells with extra spaces in them 4. Add bullet points in Word and then immediately take the bullet points away 5. Copy and paste your table back into PowerPoint For whatever reason, when you add bullet points in Word, Microsoft Word removes all the leading spaces. So, all you need to do is add bullet points and then remove them and POOF... all the spaces are gone :)
