Embed Excel Dashboards in PowerPoint - It's so bad!

Hi Mynda, thanks for your great content! You could also reverse the roles from Excel and PowerPoint. In stead of pasting your dashboard in PowerPoint, you could just copy / paste your PowerPoint slides in Excel. Every slide in its own sheet. Turn of gridlines - formula -bar and hide the ribbon and make the slides as big as the screen. No one will see the difference. Only drawback is that there are no slide animations, but who needs those when you have a live dashboard?

Thank you Mynda, great tips. You could also embed small excel exercises in a Word document. One point for attention: if you switch from PPT to Excel during presentation: be aware of the settings with dual screen. If you don't practice this (at home you don't have a beamer but a second screen can do) this often causes some hickups. Same is true for youtube video's in PPT.

Great video. Embedd as a picture can be useful because it means the dashboard will not change but you probably need several static slides. If up to date data is needed then I put a link on a slide to open the dashboard in excel and switch apps.

Hi Mynda. I've never had much luck embedding Excel in other apps. Of course it can be done.. but so clunky in execution and too frustrating. Better to use one of your other methods and do updates as needed.. just my opinion. Thanks for the tips. Thumbs up!!

I made a dashboard in Excel using dax and some DArray. It has charts, sliders, etc. So how I can place in powerpoint without losing the interactivity. Do I have to publish the excel project somewhere before placing a link on the powerpoint? In PBI it's possible.

Hi, I tried the embedded also. question for you. Is there a way to creat either a drop down list that connects with a bar charts in PP or create a bar chart with slicers in excel and link it to PP and have the links in the slicer to work with the bar chart in PP?

You can actually re-size the embedded Excel by dragging the gray dotted border whenever you are in editing the file. I do this for very simple editable tables with Excel's conditional formatting.

You can also link the charts to the PPTx without embedding the excel file. As far as the charts being cut off, if you double click again and open the embeded file, you can then resize and move the viewable area. I used to embed until I found a way to link the charts. The file size drops like a rock when you just link. I prefer linking the charts instead of linking as an image as the charting I have do not line up with the PPTx format (I suppose I could change that) and if I someone else needs to make a change in formatting, display of callouts or axis range, you do not need to have access to the original excel file.

Hi Mynda, Could we induct the PPT animations inside an excel

I'm experiencing this "chopping off" the right side of an embedded sheet which is really frustrating. The other options don't work for this specific need that I have as I need someone to double click on the Excel object, update values in a table in the spreadsheet and then have the view of this data show in Powerpoint. At least good to know that it's not my configuration or actions that are the cause, a material limitation in Powerpoint getting in the way.

Excellent video. It's very annoying that you cannot interact with the slicers in presentation mode. I have a large Excel table one slicer that I want to embed in PowerPoint so we can interact with it during the presentation by changing the slicer. Is there no way to do that?

Hi Mynda, while i select the dashboard charts in excel it is not selecting the graphs!! please could you let me know if there is any specific reason for it?

I don't get why you'd want to embed a dashboard on powerpoint in the first place. Mine typically use a vba macro in excel to zoom to selection (being the dashboard area) to ensure the user sees what i want them to see regardless of resolution etc, and just hide the tabs, headers and ribbon.
