@@fullcircleangling it wasn't to be mate. Fired car up and headlight off. So came to my closest garage which is the shell one on the A69 no bulbs. Next garage that's open is Hexham. Not worth the risk driving that with one headlight. Always next time

Hi Wayne. What’re you looking to spend and what sort are of ground are you fishing? They’re the first two key questions.

@@fullcircleangling hi mate thanks for the reply more than likely rough ground Kelpy. Probs about 6-7 hundred tops would that get a decent rod and reel or am I pissing in the wind haha.

@@wayne5240 that’ll easily sort you out mate if you buy good quality second hand. It’s all personal preference but you could look at a new Century Komp SS (roughly £475) or you could get a second hand one for £250-£300ish. Century Tip Tornado Graphex Sport (£400 second hand will get you a good one) is a cracking rod too. Or there’s a second hand T900 for £350-£400ish. Ideally you want to be able to have a cast with them first, not always easy. The tip tornado is a cracking rod, very light and user friendly and powerful. Reel wise I’m personally a Shimano fan as they’re a lot lighter and the line lay is better. An Aero Technium XSB second hand is up there with the best, you’ll pick one up for £350-£400. Or a Bullseye for around £250-£300 but the line lay is nowhere near as good and the retrieve is slower. The Shimano Power Aero is also worth a look. You could go down the Penn road and pick up a Spinfisher or Battle 7000/8000 size for £150-£200 ish brand new. But be aware, they weigh a tonne compared to Shimano reels. Very sturdy, but heavy. All personal preference really. Zulcron do a range of rods but I’ve not used them so couldn’t comment. Lenny at Lenny’s bait and tackle would be your man to speak to. AD Tackle in Wallsend have an excellent range of kit too, they stock Anyfish Anywhere rods and lots of popular reels, Andy will be able to help you out. Hope that helps mate👍

Hello David nice to hear from you as always mate. That’s really interesting and fascinating about the rods, especially having them built and building them yourself-impressive! My rationale for the glass tip was due to using braid in a heavy sea, the tip will absorb the bouncing around more than a carbon tip. But don’t get me wrong, I’m an absolute sucker for retail addiction and being sucked into trends etc 🤦 Thanks as always for commenting and tight lines for the next carp session, hope you get a few🤞👍💪

@@fullcircleangling Unfortunately they've gone like computers. Cast your mind back when computer fairs were all the rage, you bought the bits, assembled it yourself, and saved money. As the years went by it was actually cheaper to buy them ready made, so computer fairs disappeared. The same has happened to rods, it is cheaper in most cases to buy a new rod than the blanks, never mind the other parts. What I tend to do now is buy a rod and modify it, stupid but true.

@@Madmicksoutdooractivities just sorting the gear out now to be ready for winter :) Think I might give it a shot next week as you say. Normally north/north east fishes best for us but a good south east can as well so might wet a line. Tight lines to you to 👍🏼
