Why do they celebrate a place they had to leave and where they can't drink the water? If Mexico is such a wonderful place, why are they living in the US?

As a Mexican American I want you to know that we’ll do a barbecue and throw some fireworks for 4th of July, but we’ll celebrate our independence and wave our flag September 16th! 😅

As a Mexican-American, this is embarrassing. 🤦

The city just wasn't prepared. No reason to be embarrassed. Cultural events are getting bigger all across the board.

@@Cuezaltzin should be embarrassed. these same "mexicans" just did a street take over, in a quiet neighborhood, at 3am, off 47th and lake shore drive. bunch of Mexicans flags a waving and printed on hoods. Police had to force them to leave with loud sirens and lights. keep that bs in your poor dilapidated neighborhoods

@italia-82 Its embarrassing to run away from your country because it sucks so bad. Imagine celebrating fourth of July 4th in Mexico like this. Embarrassing and pathetic.

In recent years around the East Loop, the Grito revelers were shooting off fireworks in some of the caravans. They were likely honoring San Juan de Dios (the patron saint of fireworks in Mexico) by setting them off. This is a bit of an overkill because I heard that those fireworks were about roughly 6" diameter salutes (quite big, quite boomingly loud), maybe a bit larger, and firework cakes were sometimes used.

America is made from different back grounds people who don't understand this have lost their roots from their original ancestors. Most are Mexican American, but the news is only reporting Mexico as the independence they have left out 5 central American countries as well. Who's independence is September 15th. Alongside Mexico. 🎉 our roots began far away, but we never forget where we came from and who we are as people but also as a nation. 🎉
