So sorry to hear about Remy :( Its so nice to have something to carry of him along with you. Im sure he'll appreciate all the amazing trips he'll be still joining you on! Also, as a Canadian just recently getting into backpacking (partially thanks to you!) and slowly trying to get lighter, i love the Canadian perspective you bring. You have an amazing demeanor and make it fun. But the thoughts on prices and access to some of these products helps a ton!Thanks and keep in trekking! :)

A seconds and just as equally cool use for your Pond’s Edge dyneema cook pot stuff sack that no one ever talks about is-- if you get it in clear or white like you have there, it makes a great light diffuser in your tent at night. Just put that new NU 25 headlamp inside the Pond’s Edge dyneema cook pot stuff sack and hang it from the inside of your tent for a great lamp!! Love when things have multiple uses!!!

Matty, sorry to hear about your dog. I'm older than you and lost my first travel buddy (Cody) about 25 years ago. Devastated, but another dog (Birdie) came into my life about 10 years later. She's still alive but can't handle the hikes anymore. Stays home with her Momma. I know how difficult it is to deal with a missing companion. ESPECIALLY when I go somewhere that Birdie or Cody had been with me in the past. I love the way you remember your dog. Tom

I am so very sad to hear about Remy. I feel for you deeply, as I recently lost my sweet ole boy. I am glad you have Wanda, I have enjoyed your videos where both became part of my online backpacking mentors. Love the cave creek dog hammock shelter. My new pup is just a year, so not quite ready to help much with packing more than his food, but I can't wait until he can, and we can hike farther and for a longer time. I bought a hammock after seeing your setup with Wanda. I always thought I would need a tent while taking my dog with me. You opened up a whole new world to us. I cant wait for the bell to tell me you have a new video out, and always hope to see Wanda and hear more insights into hiking with dogs. You are my favorite, I love your content. I lived in the Rocky Mountain high country for years until recently, and your scenery is very much like mine, so a bonus to my watching yours, and your down to earth logic is perfect to my way of thinking. Thank you

Especially during the summer, taking a dip in a creek is a must for me, so I pack a towel. Last year I upgraded from a microfiber hand towl (I don't know the weight looks to be about the size of your towel) to the Sea to Summit medium AirLite towel. (39"x 20" 1.7oz/47g) Much larger, much lighter and works really well and packs really small. When it gets soaked, wring it out and continue drying yourself. It feels like an extra large eyeglass cloth.

Darn , I keep the orange stuff sack so I keep all that weight plus the extra weight in my wallet by not spending it on a UL stuff sack. Stuff sacks , My meals are in quart Zip lock bags since I freezer bag cook when in the woods. The meals are divided and keep according to the time of day in gallon zip lock bags , breakfast , lunch , supper and snacks. The empty bags become trash bags. A couple Zip lock snack bags have the toiletries in them according to their use. I'm a recreational UL camper/backpacker so I'm only out there for the days during the work week , Monday to Friday , never on weekends. Sorry to hear about Pup's , it's always a sad loss when your best friend is gone but fortunately never forgotten. Had that happen to many times in my 79 years but I remember each one very fondly.

Hey thanks for the video and sorry about your dog. Re the gear, a simple asparagus rubber band does the job of holding my pot shut, costs nothing and is lighter. I don't really use dry bags except one, in general the S2S silnylon ones are just as light and cheaper - but of course, no custom prints. The new NU25 is heavier if you did the Litesmith mod on the previous model (removing the head band which is as heavy as the lamp). I dislike that there's no very low red light setting anymore and think the new model is a downgrade in all except the USB C. My Garmin uses the Micro USB so I have to carry the cable anyways. Interesting knife! For what you said in the video, scissors work better. When I carry a knife then for summer sausage and so the blade needs to be longer. Opinel has a good one. Towel is great and big enough for your body, don't worry. Thanks for the video, always good to see what's new!
@MattyOutdoors
@MattyOutdoors 11 месяцев назад
so far im happy with the new version over the old version. I don't use my headlamp much, so I'm not really super picky. Its something cool and new to play around with, so I figure why not. Ive also been contemplating upgrading to a new inreach mini, and everything would be on usbc
@wio2189
@wio2189 11 месяцев назад
@@MattyOutdoors Yeah, I am probably a bit salty because they didn't really improve it over the old model. In a context of upgrading I was disappointed. Inreach mini 2 is an expensive upgrade given there are usb c to micro usb adapters that weigh hardly anything. So really depends on the budget. I just got a little silicone charging port plug for my phone and am super excited about it. Ever got a drop of water into the port of a water resistant phone? It won't charge until it's dry which can take days. So sometimes, it's the small things. ;-)

The knife is dangerous. I use a small EMT scissors as my 'cutting' tool... also multi-purpose. The towel does not need to dry ... wringing it removes enough moisture so it can be used. You can dry your whole body with just 3-4 wrings.wringing. Sorry to hear about your dog.

@E_Clampus_Vitus 11 месяцев назад
@@MattyOutdoors I used them on a 2 week thru hike. They lasted 2 weeks but started to delaminate at seams. The heavier dyneema fairs well. I have a food sack that works great. The stuff sacks I used were very lightweight and they didn’t last. I just try avoid using stuff sacks altogether. Carry as few possible.
@MattyOutdoors
@MattyOutdoors 11 месяцев назад
ive been using dyneema gear for years, never had any issue with any of it. you must have had lemons, or bought really poorly made stuff
@E_Clampus_Vitus
@E_Clampus_Vitus 11 месяцев назад
@@MattyOutdoors It’s possible my stuff was lemons. But let’s be real about dcf. The backpack manufacturers that use dcf will tell you their product is good for about 1 thru hike. So, it’s not as durable as a pack made of nylon. It’s lighter for sure. It’s not as durable. If I had lots of money, I’d probably buy more dcf products. Cost is a big factor to me. I hope you have fun out there, Matty. Thanks for the great content. Sorry to hear about your dog. I lost my dog last November to a mountain lion. Getting on trail is the relief I’ve found. 👍🏼⛺️👟👌
@daviddejong2756
@daviddejong2756 11 месяцев назад
@E_Clampus_Vitus I am right there with you. After a decade of using dcf stuff sacks, I've moved over to plastic zip lock bags. As you mentioned, the dcf sacks eventually delaminate and are no longer waterproof. All the plastic bags that I use on trail start out as food storage at home, then stuff sacks on trail, and eventually garbage bags on trail... which makes the "single use" concern a moot point.
