I’ve had chronic telogen effluvium for 6-7 years with massive shedding and hair loss. I’ve used minoxidil for several years with meh results. It did nothing for the shedding or the miniaturized hairs. I was at the point where I thought I’d have to eventually wear a hair topper when I decided to take the plunge and try irestore. I bought the essential helmet on sale for $500. OMG. I am just floored by the results. At two months I started seeing baby hairs around my hairline. At four months the shedding had stopped and now at nine months I have a sort of “helmet” of thick hair growth around my head. I’m 50 and I feel like I have the hair I had in my twenties! I will NEVER be without this helmet!
@@pattiprosperoella3244 Well, I can assure you that I am not affiliated with iRestore and I also have and use the iRestore Essential Helmet. I can also attest that it works. I wish I was affiliated with them so they would give me some $$ for every time I have referred someone to them because the helmet is not cheap. But you do have 365 days to try it out and if it doesn't do anything for you, they will refund your $$. I will be keeping mine.
Ladies - my own experience with losing over 50% of my hair was caused by low ferritin (iron) & protein in my diet- doctor told me to take a good quality prenatal vitamin & increase protein in my diet, as I was ALWAYS dieting incorrectly not prioritizing protein. It took time but I have a full head of hair now & im healthier. You have to go to the root cause of the hairloss or you’ll be a slave to gimmicks.
My ferritin levels are too high and I've been told I should donate blood regularly to rid my body of some of it. I was thinking maybe that was contributing to my shedding and thinning. Maybe it goes both ways ??
I was having massive thinning around the face hairline and a ton of shedding. I decided that I was going to tackle it with everything that I possibly could. Here's what worked. I opted for the helmet the restore pro. I then got prp. I'm also using minoxidil twice a week at the hairline only. My schedule is as follows: PRP every 6 to 8 weeks. The helmet every other day. Minoxidil twice a week. I also do vitamins religiously including bio sil and then another collagen powder. I have noticed tremendous Improvement in my hair. Honestly my hair looks like that of a model. It's long and wavy curly beautiful. But it took many months to get here. I started out with the helmet first. Seems like I got the most robust response when I added in the PRP. The minoxidil also works really well for the hairline. I do think when you are tackling hair loss, you have to use several different modalities. Above all, you must have adequate nutrition and or supplements or you're not going to get anywhere no matter what you do.
I had great results with the irestore helmet. My shedding stopped completely. ❤ But as you said Penny, it’s just a tool. I do a lot of other things for my hair (including microneedling my scalp etc)
@@almondish5911 I did Penn's 12 wk microneedle with topical minoxidil protocol. I switched to oral and now do the microneedling every few months. It really helped the baby hair around my face grow longer!
Hairmax is lasers (I own the headband) so they are more columnated and specific. LED is more of a dispersed light, so theoretically more coverage. Lasers have more studies but the experts I trust believe that both light sources are equally effective and LED is so much more affordable that it makes a great choice. I do like that the headband does not trap heat. Clearly it covers less ground and in order to treat more of the scalp you'd have to move the headband back and do multiple treatments. I believe the headband is a little bit more expensive also (lasers tend to be more expensive). :))
@@PENNSMITHSKINCARE finally!! But the shedding the first few months scared the poop out of me! And there’s definitely excessive shedding when starting!
Yes please, let us know when they will ship internationally. Despite some of the comments below, age plays a big role in hair loss. That's why you rarely see older people with long luscious locks!
Hi lovely Penny, I hope you’re doing well. Unfortunately for this particular product they don’t seem to ship to the EU. You mentioned you were in contact with them, so would you please ask them when they will ship this cap to the EU? Thanks in advance x
Same here Penny! I live in the UK. Would it be possible to find out when/if they will start shipping in UK/EU and whether your super generous disount would be applied. Thanks so much 😻
I'm interested in a red light cap and also a red light face mask. Is there a product I can use that could kill two birds with one stone? Do the two areas even require the same diodes?
I had gotten an email the other day from them but so glad you had shared your experience… I definitely had great experiences with your recommendations… and your code clinched it for me! Thank you Penn 😊
Not necessarily- If your routine works for you I would keep doing it! The hat is convenient and it gets all around the head but you can do that with your panel too!
Hi Penny, thanks for the video! Do you know if they compared it to Hair Max products? Secondly, could you ask this Company if shipping to Europe will be available at some point? Due to geolocation the link doesn't work for some, works only for US Adress (with VPN works great, but the order won't go through...)
Wow what a clever idea! Is the cap suitable for men as well? Wondering if I can share it with my husband who is also suffering from male hair loss and getting a bit of a bald patch at the back of his head. 🤔
Interesting, I wish it was then, … I had crazy loss of hair, in 2021, after neurological Covid, which took any bit of energy from me, In recovery I wasn’t able to stand for. More than 5 minutes….and hair was disaster.. tried some herb sprays , and Ayurvedic oils, but after I started taking supplement horsetail, my hair recovered 150% I am using, for about. A year now, and my hair grew long, and healthy, like I never had a problem. It’s amazing recovery , considering that at the same time, I went into menopause, so now I am in about 2 years. And I do not take hormone replacement Have a blessed day🙏❤️
i use a red and near infared surround mat for my face 20 min a day and i thought it would help thicken the hair near my face, now im concerned its too much. At how many minutes of exposure does it produce deletious effects? thanks!
I do not think you are anywhere near having a counter effect! At some point it may be diminishing returns (so at worst wasting your time) but it's a while before you get to it going against you :)
From what I have read online it is laser and not led that are most effective for hair loss. Is there new evidence? From what I could see it was recommended laser diodes not led and 272 of them
I have scalp folliculitis as well as menopausal hair loss and any of the usual hair loss treatments aggravate the folliculitis. Is there any evidence for the use of LEDs or red light for scalp folliculitis?

I have the iRestore red light device and I don't mind that it's ugly ... LOL I use it very late at night and no one is likely to come calling when I have it on. And it doesn't emit any heat on my head. My stylist says I have all kinds of "baby" hair so I'm pretty happy with it. The problem with the baby hair is that all of them don't grow up to be big-girl hair. I have also purchased the Dr. Pen to start microneedling my scalp as soon as I find a protocol for that. If you have a protocol or know of a good one out there, please point me in that direction.
Will this help with alopecia. I am 75 and very thin on top. I’ve tried many many tools and products with very little success. Don’t mind spending the money but with the alopecia will it help. Not expecting a full head just some new growth in the front. Let me know your thoughts please!
I have alopecia as well. I purchased the Irestore helmet last year, and it has not helped at all. It says to give it a year, so I have done that and am discouraged. The helmet is not cheap, so I’m afraid to try something else and not get results, as well as spending more money on something else and not having it work. I’m interested as well if this helps with alopecia… thank you for your help!
Thank you! Yes, I have lost weight. I gave up sugar and started majorly focusing on weight training, protein and fiber. It's been about 3 months and I think my efforts are starting to show :)) I also had Agnes RF in October and January along the jaw and jowl area and that may be showing some results now too (but the weight loss is likely the thing:)))

Honestly all around, if I could share the heartfelt conversations I’ve had with the team behind this….they wanted it to be right, to be attainable and to work. I wish I would have said they offer a 16 WEEK return window (I forgot until after I filmed and had to write it on the screen 😭) because that’s pretty awesome too. 😍

I have the theradome. I use it every other day. The only thing that has ever stopped my hair falling was pregnancy. I do see more hair along the hairline. Do you know how many lights are in the theradome? Do you think I should scrap it and try this higher dose one? Thanks
I have had thin hair for all my life and an 61 years young today. Shedding hair seems to be getting more and more and your video today makes me think to buy The Hat (what a genius idea they had). The link in the description leads me to an error 404 page ... Perhaps I am not located in the US 🤔

I have had the iRestore for 3 years and it has not stopped my thinning. I would love to try the cap but money is a lot tighter now than 3 years ago. Also, I am doing vitamins and hair serums as you are. I hate to stop my hair highlights! My hair color is so ugly - not like your pretty light brown. But, I think that is what is lacking in this journey - the stopping of color and harsh bleach! Thank you for such in-depth videos! Always look forward to your deep dives!
I have Hashimoto’s which caused my hair to fall out like crazy. After drinking my green drink for the past six months a few times a week, my hair is so much thicker. It has kale, spirulina and moringa. I can’t think of the name offhand but if you read this let me know and I’ll get the name of it when I get out of bed. The best thing is that it’s super inexpensive.
Hi Penny. Thank you so much for letting us know about this device. I know you said in the comments that we could use a Hair Max laser headband (655 nm) three times a week and use the new HIgher Dose hat (650 nm) on the other four days per week. But wouldn't this be overkill? I own a Hair Max, and would like to know.
That was in response to a specific question and it was more saying that I would not double up on those two any one day. I don't think it's overkill but I would not do any more than that. That said, I do not think anyone needs this cap if they have the headband :))
Sorry if I missed this, but 1. Do they recommend you use it daily? 2. Can you use it on damp hair? 3. Is there first a major shedding phase before improvement? 4. How does this stand compared to irestore I believe that one has lasers too? 5. Must this be used on clean hair? I have to use products to cosmetically cover up the thinning and while I love to wash my hair, the whole process just takes way too long to have to cover up problem areas again so I don’t wash my hair daily. Thank you so much for sharing this and clearly you understand how devastating it can be. I’m trying everything to get my ferritin levels up. I’m not anemic, but my ferritin levels are always low and supposedly it needs to be above 100 to actually regrow hair. I’m not giving up hope. Thanks again.
I am using it every day. You should use it on dry hair-but it doesn’t have to be clean. That said, if the product is opaque it might inhibit the process. There CAN be a shed in the beginning. That doesn’t happen to everyone, but is possible. This is LEDS I restore is Lasers. Lasers are columnated and LED scatters light (theoretically given more coverage). Both are good options although heat is something to consider with I restore in my opinion. Also IRestore is more expensive. Hope this helps ❤️
@@PENNSMITHSKINCARE thank you for your reply. I was hoping I could use it on damp hair before I put “makeup” on my head and before blow drying . I’m still considering it

Hi Penn, thank you for your updates. I have thinning on my sides from hair extensions, and I tend to keep using them because of that. Also, I sleep on my side, and wonder if that can also cause hair loss. Didn’t you try the micro needling and serum a while back? Also, what about the LED combs and brushes? I ordered one from Aliexpress but never used it.
I try really hard to take care of my hair. I take Nutrofol which really helps with shedding. I try to highlight every 6 months and air dry too. I haven’t found a miracle cure for hair. I am on bottle 2 for plated hair scalp serum not sure my thoughts yet. I haven’t found a scalp serum like plated that absorbs super fast and doesn’t grease up my hair. This does sound intriguing maybe wait for holiday specials this year.
Hi Penn - I lost my hair due to chemo. My last round will be in 2 weeks. Do you recommend this hat for to help me start my regrowth? Thanks so much. I really appreciate all your wonderful videos.

Hello, very interesting! I actually saw there was this new video while I was researching these other hairgrowth devices! (Helmet vs hair band types.) So the timing is absolutely perfect! Anyway, I am wondering about a couple of things. The first is : how is the light able to penetrate through the hair to reach the scalp? Or does that not really matter? (In the sense that « enough » will get through?) And second, I have a small head… is the fit adjustable? And by the way, really glad you provided information at the end on the difference (or similarity in effectiveness actually) between LED and LLLT. I had been wondering about that throughout the video.
So sorry, I guess they are only shipping in the US right now. I updated the description box and will again as soon as I have info on International shipping. ❤️
Yes but it's important to know the root cause and also if the scalp is shiny it's likely not going to re-grow hair. Have you talked with someone about your alopecia?
Thank you Penn! I have been using red light for years on my face and occasionally on my hair. It does make a difference! I do like the idea of this cap and the simplicity of it. I will definitely consider it!

Hi, I saw you when you filmed with Gabi, I decided to come and check out your content. I decided to try this mask. I am a single woman, post menopausal and have dealt with hair shed. I am thankful that I started using serums, etc early on. I have not tried the LED therapy. I hope it works well. Thank you for your suggestion. I did buy the cap. Thank you again, it’s so hard to trust people on you tube. Thank you for addressing hair loss. Mine is the typical, hereditary, female pattern hair loss.
This sounds like something I have been looking for. Every time I brush my hair, my brush is so full of hair lost. I've gone gray to stop stressing my hair however it hasn't seemed to help. I don't use a ton of products however I wondered what hair serum you use on your hair? Also I notice there is no warranty mentioned, this concerns me a bit. Blessings to you from Texas
Hi there- I’ll double check on warranty. I’m sure there is one, I just don’t cover it ❤️ They do have a 16 week return window (just FYI). I’m using revitalash foam alternating with Grande Hair serum at night ☺️
Hi, I've read research that says LEDS Do not penetrate deep enough into the scalp. To actually get to the hair follicle, as opposed to laser therapy. Have you heard anything about this?
Thanks so much for all the research and testing you have done. I am sure many of us want to know the best tools to use for hair growth and keeping the hair we actually have!!! I am really interested in this… thank you!🌸🌸

@@trinablum7102 yes… not necessary right against the skin ,but how much space would be acceptable between the lights and your head ? I have the same question with masks because I have the same problem . I just bought Dr Rajani’s mask on Pennys suggestion and it does fit me better then the Omnilux , but of course not every bulb can touch the skin . There are gaps here or there.
Well LLLT covers both laser and LED. Lasers do have more studies - yes. But consensus is that LEDs are a very good option especially considering the massive difference in price. There are many great laser options out there though, so the good news is you can choose what fits your budget ❤️

Off topic but any recommendations for older atrophic acne scarring? Not a candidate for more invasive procedures. Using retinoid but still prone to acne. Looking into RescueMD, Defenage 8-In-1 serum, and Alastin Restorative Complex.
So first- just in case - I would be careful lasers. It sounds like you will but sometimes lasers can actually make atrophic scars worse. Are you able to go in office at all? If yes, consider a practitioner who specialized in subcision. This releases the tether that is pulling the scar down (if it’s acne scarring). Then you can do resurfacing treatments like microneedoing or chemical peels. TCA is a great option. RescueMD is excellent with lapacol. The Alastin didn’t do much for people I saw use it…the Defenage is excellent but if I had to choose between that and the rescueMD, I would choose rescueMD.
@@PENNSMITHSKINCARE I could go in office and get a consultation but I’m very prone to scarring and hyperpigmentation. Almost any injury I get leaves some kind of scar behind so super hesitant to do any procedures including microneedling.
I am currently using the Irestore helmet and have experienced the "hot head effect". I use it as directed (every other day for 25 minutes). The thought that I may have spent $750 to make my hair fall out makes me want to slam it or my head into the wall. I am thinking now of adding the helmet to my "I can't believe I bought this graveyard" A baseball hat may be in my future.
So I bought one too…..spent that much (different brand though) and tested it over 9 months. I recognized the hot head but didn’t put two and two together. 😩
@angelmuscledoc I haven’t - the only other device like this that I’ve tested that I do recommend is the Hair Max headband or comb (less so the comb). But they are expensive for what you get…..
Man I wish I had that money cause my hairs longest it’s ever been and I’m trying so hard to get it healthy ! But I’m super stressed n it’s thinning a lot
Are you using any other products to help with the thinning? I would recommend a hair serum as a great affordable option. This blog is a good resource www.pennsmithskincare.com/post/reverse-hair-loss-with-hair-serums-that-work
Thank you, Penn for another wonderful video! It sounds very promising, but I’m wondering if you are already using minoxidil daily can you still use the cap ? In other words, if I have minoxidil on my scalp can I put the cap over that or does my hair have to be perfectly clean?
Here is a quote from Pubmed (I will link the source too): *Five RCTs compared LLLT with minoxidil (2% or 5%) to 5% minoxidil treatment or LLLT treatment. One study showed combination therapy of LLLT, and 5% minoxidil improved hair density more than monotherapy. Another found combination LLLT with 2% minoxidil induced hair regrowth equivalent to 5% minoxidil. Similarly, another study described LLLT with 5% minoxidil versus minoxidil monotherapy to increase the number of hairs with no statistical difference between groups. One trial found that combination group increased hair regrowth in the first 2 months. The last study found a statistically significant increase in hair density with combined therapy compared to monotherapy.* pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36937156/
