That makes sense. But hatchbacks have advantages. Usually in the indian market, we don't get engine options and features like a sedan in a hatchback. But this car is an exception.
I think it was a experimental project This is obviously made for international market and I think they wanted know how we Indians react to an international car and how we justify their pricing
I think people will be buying the lower end models instead of the baleno or the Altroz, but the top end Turbo variant (which costs almost 14lakh) wont be doing so well. Thats almost the price for a mid spec Honda City.
Nope... You aren't alone! The original design language of both the models have been lost in their newest iteration. The front is still ok for both. It's best not to say anything about the rear!
I don't know about you all but I dont like the new i20 design. Don't even love the interior. The previous model was more premium looking. Looks do matter same as performance in Indian market.
Its not always about price I guess.. some people would not have the parking space to park SUVs or would like in crowded cities where driving SUV is a pain.
11.18 which will go 13-13.5L on road will be hard to justify for a Hyundai hatchback, although the top model is loaded, it eventually comes in the segment of lower versions of verna , city or even seltos and creta
The SX(O) has 6 airbags, bose sound system with subwoofer, sunroof, tyre pressure monitor, 1.0L turbo 118bhp engine with DCT. I don't think verna or venue is better than the top end i20. People are saying it's overpriced only because it's a hatchback. But they'll happily buy jacked up hatchbacks like venue for a higher price. Isn't this lighter i20 better than Venue.??
Pricing will be hard to justify in a market which leans so heavily towards SUVs ( if you could call them that ). I'd rather get a Sonet or Nexon. Also that front end, my goodness. Previous gen i20 had such an elegant front end, way to ruin it.
People in the comments, "over priced", I think it's perfectly priced for the amount of things they are giving out. And I don't understand why people are comparing this with SUVs. Every car manufacturer out there is only putting out SUVs. There are people who'd prefer hatchback over SUV. I'm one of them coz I already own an Innova.
Apparently, we can feel the priorities of our consumers, it is more inclined towards features and resale value. I feel that's unfortunate. It ruins many things and if this continues for long, it may change the mindset/approach of other manufacturers also due to visible market trends. I hope ford, Mahindra, Tata, VW, Skoda, and Toyota do not get carried away with this. I don't want to see them going into losses due to the stupidity and priorities of Indian consumers. Their marketing teams need to buckle up, educate consumers, and sell their products based on their forte/positives. Peace.

Yes I agree, but not all people want big cars, this is a hatchback. People buy the i20 as it is a hatchback. Otherwise there would only be vernas, and venues on the road.

I too own a 2012 i gen i20 Mangna(o) which costed 5.71 On road , but it does not have standard Safety Features-Airbags and ABS. Cars acorss segments have got costlier than their previous generations and its not just the i20. I also own 2019 Elite i20 Asta which costed 7.7 lacs Onroad after discount. Happy with Both
That's because the idea of an air purifier in a car more relevant to India and Asian countries, it wouldn't add value in Europe, Australia, new Zealand etc .

The headlight on this car looks really great and lights up the road really well. I just got passed by one of them and I thought it's an expensive German from long.
Hyundai hit the right spot with i20. Very few people can understand brand loyalty, and that is what brands like VW, Honda and Hyundai work on. All those who own Santros, i10s and accents will surely upgrade to this car and it will steal customers from VW for sure. and where you Altroz fan boys get it wrong is that pricing has nothing to do with customers in the VW, Honda and Hyundai bracket. they will never scale down to Tata nor to Suzuki. If they can afford an i20 for 10lakh, they'd buy it and never have a buyers remorse unlike "saving money and going for the Altroz". P.S. not saying Tata makes bad cars, they do have good benchmark products, but they target a totally different mass market. VW, Honda and Hyundai do not target high volume sales, but target customers with deep pockets and who can actually understand there is more to a product than its price tag.
I have booked i20 sport petrol ⛽️ but I am confuse between baleno or i20 . When I have drive the new I20 Pick up wise I don't feel so good apart from that everything is good , Baleno pick up wise so good . I Need suggestions should I go for i20 or baleno
I have been driving 1.2 ivt 2020 i20 since last 2700 kms in city and highway. It so not feel underpowered, IVT keeps a check on throttle to downshift and give you power during overtaking and when needed. City mileage is 13-14 and highway its 17-18. Overall my sportz ivt 1.2 is fulfilling and is value for money i paid for. Too happy about all the offerings by car... Drive it own it and believe it. GO FOR IT...
new honda city is not bad. it certainly isnt using the Jazz architecture like the prev model but instead went for an all new south asian specific rework as city isnt sold in the western countries. good thing the car actually makes up for the lack in sharp edges!
My First Comment in RU-vid. I am so happy & satisfied with my previous model i20 Sportz plus version car,which I purchased just before this launch.. 31.10.2020 with a great discount also.. :) My car & it's feature, majestic looks are much more better than this new version..
I think the variants that will bring in numbers is the 1.2 MT Magna to Asta - and they are priced on par with the segment offerings from other brands. The 1.0 ltr turbo is there to show it can be done in this segment.
13lakhs? Bro the top model turbo(leading segment) is 11.33 lakes. Which is also not worth buying it. But your level of exaggerating, from 11.33 lakhs to 13 lakhs.
That's for Turbo engine!! If you don't want turbo engine..just go for 1.2 MPi Asta(o) which costs around 9.3lakh (almost same as that of its rivals and power figures too)
The car above driven is 9 to 10 which is is worth buying top end model is a turbo petrol which has performance like polo turbo which is also similarly priced

It's not in the segment of other hatchbacks in the indian market. Look at the options and the features available. 120PS turbo gdi with DCT, punchy diesel engine, lighter weight. I believe it's better than Venue other than lower ride height and smaller tyres.
The z shaped taillights do look distinctive but they are positioned a bit low. I am not sure if that will be liked by most. Hyundai's other cars like Creta and Aura also have their taillights stretched downwards. That makes the rear look not dynamic but, dare I say, gawky!

What hyundai is trying to show ....There dealers doesn't provide you test drive vehicle so people are bluffing only they don't know what type of performance we got from other than turbo engines ...Out of 100 dealers there are only 10 dealers which provides you a test drive vehicle other than they don't care to show you any other variant other than top ....
The strategy of hyundai is to overpriced the car which has the brand value in our country and people will pay 11 lakhs gor this car because of the brand value and the famous name of the car too . It would be better to buy a segment above car than this .
From what I infer, Hyundai (and Kia) are providing way too many configurations that it caters for every user out there. I mean look at the engine and transmission combos. Although it might complicate the spares, its gonna attract many first time buyers.
Had a look at both the cars in person no doubt altroz build quality impresses the most but the rear seat thigh support is just a joke on the altroz it's almost like you are sitting on edge of a seat and the seat quality and comfort on altroz is not that good in comparison. Altroz improve on rear seat quality it would be great
better to go with grand i10 nios .....more feature with affordable price .......recently i bought grand i10 nios sportz 1.2 petrol T silver....fully satisfied

Go for new i20 if only when your requirement is a hachback , if u really want to buy it. i20 sportz variant is value for money and a smart and good choice only when your requirement is a hachback , if not than go for subcompact SUVS like venue , sonet or Nexon.
Majority of Indians will prefer going for a Compact SUV at such prices but let's not forget, India is maturing as an auto market and there will be a niche segment who are looking for fully loaded hatchbacks at premium prices and they won't shy away from paying for it. Everyone is welcome in India and may the customer preferences win.
Being previous Elite i20 owner.. Premium feeling of interior is gone here and that ugly infotainment screen feels aftermarket and feels forcibly put from Sonet/Seltos.

How is the steering response.. lucklust like the other Hyundai’s or has it gone neat too.. suspension set up.. hope that has changed... compare it to the VW polo pls... No doubt this car has become sexier and sexier since 2009 when it came. But prices of the cars are getting expensive I mean for 1.2 petrol one has to pay 13lacks.
Though I drive an Elite i20, I would have never gone for this car if I was purchasing this variant. It is not justifying its price. Sure, they provide kit, but what if don't want that kit. I don't want Bose system, I don't want connected car features. Infact, previous generation Asta variant was also over-priced. But with this generation they have truly outdone themselves. They should have offered more rational options for first two variants. I would gladly take a rather old and cramped back seated Polo GT TSI for this price
the new i20 could also a compact 4-Dr Sedan version because unlike the previous generation i20 the design of the new i20 has just the characteristics necessary for a proper 5-Dr Hatchback to a compact 4-Dr Sedan conversion!!!
Actually your comment does make some sense, now that I've gone through it. In my opinion, this is not a good looking car as it stands, but a sedan would actually look pretty nice I think
Its pricing is very very wrong... Baleno delta is cheaper than its magna with better features...which include even projector headlamps and drls ... No its is not a good car at its price point...its base model should have starting price of maybe 6 lakh...and seriously top model costs around 13 lakh...you fould get a seltos for that🤣

Every one commenting about the price .....see the actual line up first .....top model asta O 1.2 petrol engine is at under 10.5.....the other model are with more Powerful engines ...not everyone go for those but still it's good to hve such engine option ....people buy polo gt with similar price and with lesser features .....
Indians complain about the New Polo not being launched in India and act surprised at the price of the new i20. If you think this is expensive, then India isn't ready for the new Polo.
Well looks really are subjective, I guess. To each his own. The rest is okay but that front end is just a deal breaker as far as I'm concerned. 10 year old Polo and Altroz looks better, imo.
While the old i20 and even this gen International variant of the car look better than this, there is no doubt that it's going to sell well despite it's high price and not much of an innovation over the previous gen apart from a few features that were added like a fully digital instrument cluster and the new touchscreen or even the bose sound system and sunroof. But given the improvements there were from first gen to the second, all this seems a lost opportunity. The infotainment and instrument cluster screens, Bose sound system are borrowed from other models on sale in it's portfolio and the first gen car did come with the sunroof, so its just a re-addition. It really should have added ventilated seats for mid and top variants in this price point and it would have been a great value car. But it's evident from the past that despite being higher priced compared to rivals, people still buy the i20. And history might repeat itself.
