The reason Steve extended the swim platforms is it uses the weight of the water to hold it down in following seas. Those seas on the platform help lift the bow and let the yacht surf. It's pure genius at work

Hello. I've enjoyed watching and liking your videos. I was wondering whether you could do a video just dedicated to the classes of seaworthiness of these yachts. Perhaps using some of the examples that you have in your videos. I always interested in being educated about these kinds of wonderful boats, and I have no doubt that having a better understanding of what these classes are and their capabilities and limitations would be something that your viewers would enjoy. Cheers. Brian

Looks like the FPB 78 Cochise... I think the swim platform is too short though. It should have a fold down stern extension that is as tall as the deck house when up adding 8~10 meters to the hull length at sea while keeping the boat less than 80 foot in harbor maneuvers. Length equals speed and efficiency. Also, maybe it can have a flood-able bow. At speed, in calm seas, valves can open to allow water to free flood into a bow compartment and keep it digging into the bow wake instead of riding over it. A reverse rake and a slight tumble home will help too. For greatest efficiency the propeller axis should be in line with the flow axis of water where the prop is. An inboard motor driving a prop through a shaft generally does not allow that. Maybe they could use a podded propulsor; something like a Thrustmaster T-Pod 90kW Permanent Magnet azimuthing thruster in a diesel generator / electric drive setup? A 10~20hp retractable azimuthing bow thrust can also be added. This has the added advantage that if the main pod fails, the docking thruster can be lowered to tug the boat around at low speeds.

Dashews design limits the lifting of the stern from following seas. It does this with the swim platform that allows water on it and using that weight to hold stern down. This is why he had modified some of the platforms on his yachts. The narrowing at the stern and the platform keep the stern down allowing the yacht to surf

Completely different animals. Having not been on either, the XPM is a much more slippery design, that combined with the lower displacement, narrower beam, self righting ability speaks well to her seakeeping ability. The XPM is arguably a more efficient design, and will be more spartan than the Bering. As for which is better- it depends on what a potential owner values.

Hi mate....sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but aluminium is not free from corrosion. It corrodes, just not as swiftly as steel.
@chrisleigh-jones5492
@chrisleigh-jones5492 Год назад
To begin with yes, but steel oxide is a larger volume than the base metal and aluminium oxides not. So the steel rust falls off and the process repeats, aluminum rust sticks and protects the base metal. The biggest risk is not typical oxidation, its galvanic corrosion. Either ship to shore or from dissimilar metals in the build. Careful construction and design will take care of that issue but vigilance is also a good idea. Not trying to be clever, I'm just an old engineer so its habitual.
@petermaire3416
@petermaire3416 Год назад
It’s pretty much a 100% rip off of the Circa NZ built 😅 PB78, the bigger sister of the PB64. That said they’ve made a pretty nice job of the build. When Steve Dashew retired from producing boats under the Dashew brand he declined to allow Circa to build these vessels. A couple of years later Circa teamed up with LoMotion design to build an even more advanced vessel than the Dashew boats. Mollymawk was the first 24m and was followed on with a second vessel. The efficiency of Mollymawk was nothing short of astonishing..
@zzp1
@zzp1 2 месяца назад
Impressive it is not. It is a repetition of a theme. This type of hull is not new and a number of yards have already produced similar designs. True is that in Turkey labor is cheap, substantially cheaper than in the western part of Europe. That' s a fact. If their metal working is of similar quality needs to be viewed and depends under which rules the hulls are made. Lloyd's 100 A1, Veritas, ABS, GL, or the lowest, RINA. However, take it as a fact that Turkish shipyards do not sleep and their products are becoming better and better.

Gotta be honest...looks like an Arksen. I know the hull design is more like that of the Dashew FPB and follows that proven Vripack design from the early 00's or aughts...it works though. At least they aren't leaving it bare aluminum like the Dashew's. Those look absolutely ugly and utilitarian.
