I think what people object to is the fact that you do not need black history month, gay pride month or whatever. Mothers-day is exactly one day, if anyone should have a month surely it's our mothers. if we need to know black history then it needs taking out of the hands of the left (the BBC, newsprint MSM, universities etc). and taught as a lesson in school, so we know what age our kids were brainwashed so they may be taught correctly at home. that happens to me now I have a sre class then my dad and mom teach me what the school should have. It was the fashion in those days and note it was William Wilberforce who abolished slavery and he was English.

My original comment was a serious one though, the French locking us out of Europe and trying several times to colonise the continent did force us to grow our empire. There's nothing particularly unusual about this though. For most of history you either ran an empire or belonged to one.

He could have said snow is cold as well, he was after all only stating the obvious! The purpose of slavery is to get people to give their labour without payment which means keeping them alive.

People are free to disagree with Dr Starkey as they will. He's shown that he's more than a match for it all. But what no one can deny is his passion and wealth of knowledge regarding history. I could listen to him talk about it for hours.

@ARh Blunt - For too long we have been told the difference between Humans & animals is we use tools when in fact animals also use tools - typically their equivalent of "hammer & anvil" or monkeys using sticks to remove insects from inaccessible places. However in the early 1920s as a reaction to the barbarism of WW1 where our ancestors slid into world wide industrial scale slaughter ALFRED KORZYSKI in his first book "Manhood of Humanity" in which he implied that the time for our species to grow into maturity was long overdue He defined plants as being the Chemical class of life. Animals are the Space binding class of life & we Humans are the TIME BINDING CLASS OF LIFE as unlike the others we have LIBRARIES to pass knowledge down through the ages. ( Though my personal experience can only be explained by the fact that the political system is so corrupt they deliberately rig the conventional education system in order to deliberately "dumb down" the masses because these politicians are so obsessed with obtaining-retaining power the last thing they want is an intelligent population who will rightfully oppose a system that will kill of the processes of TRUE democracy & personal evolution ! After being set up with a LEARNING DEFICIT just as most of us are & existing in an INFORMATION VACUUM ( but too few ever progress far enough to become aware of the true state of affairs! ) So as while a dumbed down education system proved of no use & the public library system is deliberately under funded on the grounds of so called "austerity" I taught myself to use a computer & got on the internet to start researching on why the state of THE HUMAN CONDITION is so TOXIC ( On that particular point THE best source is THE child psychologist ALICE MILLER stated that 90% of our species are dysfunctional because of authoritarian - abusive- toxic parenting The symptoms that result from that cause @ one end of the continuum, people who take nicotine-alcohol-drugs to medicate their emotional pain to @ the other end the "great" dictators of the 20th century Hitler/Stalin/Mao/Pol Pot ( It is no random coincidence that they were all abused children who's pathological defence mechanism was to become psychopaths e.g. shut down emotionally & seek power to protect themselves) Unfortunately these dictators obtained such power as to allow them to re-enact their child hood traumas-dramas on the world stage leading to World War / Holocaust - Genocide / deliberate famine / etc While I feel sorry for what happened to them as kids clearly, @ the VERY least psychopaths should NEVER EVER be given power - & clearly we have yet to learn that lesson ! I watched a lecture a couple of years ago, if only I could remember, who and where as the content was absorbing, and much was familiar as to what is currently taking place, and what they have planned for us all. The lecture was regarding the UN's agenda 21, if you haven't already done so, it's well worth reading. You've caught me on the hop, at the moment, I'm on my phone, but if you Google; How the UN's Agenda 21 influences every aspect of society. Hopefully that will lead you to the lecture. I'm afraid the lady giving the lecture doesn't deliver very well, but the content is Orwellian, you'll recognize so much of what is happening, as it relates to everyone and everything. We go through life with very little questioning, we go about our daily business without thought that there's a reason to whatever we're doing, it's being mapped out for us. It's truly frightening Jim, and also the reason governments are corrupt, why we can't squeeze a pin point between parties and policies. It covers housing, immigration, climate, eating less meat, growing our own food, even if it's grown in window boxes, the dumbing down of education, it's all related, and so much more will instantly resonate. We can only stop it by voting outside of the box.

In less than a term my marks rose from low 20s % to high 80S% - & I wasn't even trying ! They never taught us PROBLEM SOLVING/ CRITICAL THINKING OR LOGIC As a result of not being taught a worthwhile logic system we are forced to fall back on the quite inadequate 2 valued either/or Logic of the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle ( I have since upgraded to Non Newtonian MULTI valued holistic logic which is far superior! By age 17 I was expected to leave school & find a job for myself & while I was less than happy with my parents style of Laissez Faire : Do nothing where I was forced to :shift for myself while it was tough back then it has shown benefits L8R - 7&when the original TV series of "star trek" came out i used that to parent myself:) - By age 17 I was expected to leave school & find a job for myself. By then my mother's childishness was driving me crazy so I joined the R.A.F., did an intense 3 year technical apprenticeship & became an Aircraft Engineering Technician posted onto a B.A.C Lightning Sqdn No 23, "Red Eagles" After a 2nd tour on them in Cyprus I got a break & posted to Leeming on Jet Provosts which were a LOT easier & being 1/2 between my parents & those of my X :) With more time to be sociable & think of society I started to become vaguely aware that something wasn't quite right with society & I started to feel trapped in an INFORMATION VACUUM. By the time I was going though divorce & being abused by a broken system I definitely knew something was far wrong but I was also trapped& threatened to have my kids taken off me if I didn't agree to the negative stereotypical assumptions they constantly made against me while never actually telling me what I was accused off - which constitutes a "KAFKAESQUE NIGHTMARE" ( & there was no Freedom Of Information Act back then to force them to be open ) I went through SIX lots of solicitors & they were equally useless but in different ways - they were of no help in protecting me & after years of putting up with this eventually the ONLY thing that kept me going was the solitary thought "THAT WHICH CANNOT BE HELPED MUST BE ENDURED" ! and I can not make any comment on any of her weightings as I have not read any. of her works. JL - Fair enough. Of her 13 books I skipped her one on doing her own personal therapy through art as not only is that not my scene ( I'm STEM [ SCIENCE/ TECHNOLOGY/ ENGINEERING/MATHS ] oriented ) & have spent too many decades suffering from divorce induced grinding poverty - My X preferred divorce as a suitable diversion to avoid facing up to her toxic child hood - so hit the "easy button" & screw the consequences for two very young kids & trash my life! The world goes nuts over things that they don't understand and psychology is no exception. Often people respond to any thing new as this is the answer to all of our problems and try to make applications where their are none. JL - To give you some balance, having been dragged through a broken social-legal system that abuses men because the femiNAZIS claimed that 1 in 3 women are victims of domestic violence. So because the conventional education system has been deliberately rigged by corrupt politicians obsessed with obtaining-retaining power the masses are deliberately "dumbed down" as the last thing the politicians want is an intelligent population that will resist their abuse' Most people lacking any rigour simply assumed it was a proven national averaged out figure. When in fact it was a local hot spot & thus the femiNAZIS committed a lie of omission that led to the divorce courts being weaponised against men! A further problem of the "dumbed down" education system is that with only one exception ( & she remained neutral because of a lack of any evidence ) all the other social workers/psychologists/psychiatrist/ generally anybody with a degree were "superior idiots" who despite a "higher" education had a poor grasp of reality ! For my part in my time in the R.A.F. as an A.E. Tech. I worked on something like 140 aircraft & not one crashed or had an accident caused by me! So i consider that to be empirical evidence I have a good grasp of reality! - As for Western psychology, generally I'm not too impressed because of their tendency to over label-over diagnose & over define things that it's often doubtful they even exist. Also there tends to be a fair bit of dubious ideology they lack the rigour to query! I like Alice Miller as not only was she clearly "head & shoulders" above the rest, but her theories perfectly explain a lot of life kr@p I went through. BTW Abraham Maslow is quite good though I've no interest in his work on business management & I don't care too much for Freud / Neo Freudians or much of Behaviourism etc My X used to smack my youngest ( who was too young to work out it was best to avoid her) until she reduced him to tears & rather than face up to what she'd done then relabel his pain as "bad behaviour" & smack him harder ( which still pains me that I was prevented from being there to protect him). Eventually she manipulated the situation to get her own personal psychiatrist ( a woman with 2 degrees & nearing the end of her career but still so stupid as to accept @ face value my Xs complaint this perfectly innocent kid was a "problem child". As the French say "Qui accuse s'accuse" i.e. whoever accuses first is usually the guilty one./ Or if you prefer "confession by projection". Certainly if I was a psychologist I'd be quite wary of parents who label their kids as being a "problem child We can add Hitler to that list because he was diagnosed when he was in the army, and the Doctor who did the work disappeared on the Night Of The Long knife along with any one else who he did not like. I agree. All that happens is that students emerge brainwashed and saddled with a massive debt that most of them have little hope of paying off. I am in my late 60s and I am glad I never went (although they were very different in the 70s), and if I had children or grandchildren, I would actively dissuade them from going. Much better to learn a trade and an honest way of earning a living, producing goods or services of real worth, rather than learning such tosh as “whiteness studies” - in fact any university course that has “studies” in the title should be avoided like the plague in my opinion! The way they have opened up university so that the expectation is that everybody should go, reminds me of the introduction of hundreds of different TV channels - there’s only so much goodness that can be spread around, and the end result is a loss of quality. They have had to introduce courses that have little hope of equipping young people to earn a living, except perhaps in the woke media, and we all know the result of that. What sickens me is that even Oxford and Cambridge, those bastions of scholarship and training of minds for critical thinking, have been infected by the modern disease, and I think things have now gone too far to be remedied. It all goes back to the loony educational changes in the 60s after WW2 where “self-expression” was emphasised, along with a complete lack of discipline, rather than the teaching of factual information and developing of critical thinking and how to behave as a decent and responsible citizen, and the products of those early days are now running the education system and ruining the country. This has all been orchestrated for decades, if not centuries.

@@ShoshiPlatypus All I really got out of university was experience in seeing what went on behind enemy lines so to speak. I'm quite unassuming to look at, but my hearing is very good, and I'm pretty good at eavesdropping without people realising or noticing (because I appear to be focusing on what I'm doing and don't really react to things when really I'm blocking out the noise and focusing on particular voices) so I was able to put that skill to use in listening in whenever SU officials would deign to visit societies I was part of and they basically spent their entire time talking about their latest social justice idiocy. They were also literally in bed with the then-Women's Officer of NUS Wales which only increased the amount of social justice initiatives. At uni I always felt like I was leading a double life, student by day, spy by night. xD Though back then I saw university as an escape but I had been very naive...
