As a African American who shares the same history as you two. Just under a different colony. This makes my heart proud to see black women moving in spaces that were denied to our ancestors. We are our ancestors wildest dreams. ❤❤❤

It is so frustrating watching what is continuing with that embargo. It has made me look at people in Florida that vote for republic@ns with disgust. I understand what they think of communism and socialism, but I have been to Cuba multiple times and only felt love from it's people. This is one of the few carribean islands where I have felt brotherly love from my ancestral cousins.

Jay Rags. The Cuban people are amazing. My grandfather was born in 1910. He became an orphan at age 9 in a rural town in Cuba. He cleaned barns in order to have a place to sleep. During the day he picked fruit all day long and the farmer would pay him with a small amount of the fruit which he had picked. He packed this fruit in a wheelbarrow and pushed this wheelbarrow into town to sell the fruit everyday. All the while caring for his younger brother. He was 19 when the great depression started, not an easy time. Eventually he saved enough money to open a very small and modest "Grocery Store". He continued to work hard, bought a house. Not a mansion in Havana... A small modest house in his home rural town. The depression ended and he continued to do well. He bought a second grocery store, which gave to his little brother... He became a health inspector in this same town. He was well known and loved by the towns folk. Like most small towns in that era, not to many doctors, so he would volunteer yearly to give the children immunization shots. Since he came up from poverty, he never bought a new car, always second hand. No gold watches or fancy clothes either. He invested his money in small factories and a few properties. A couple of two bedroom small houses. In 1958 he was asked, by some political people from Havana to run for Mayor of his town. He was pleased and very proud. Once the campaign started gaining momentum, these same men offered him money to step aside, in order to place one of their own. My grandfather declined. He was so well loved by the people of his town that he actually won the election, beating the incumbent. January 1959 came and when he was supposed to take his lawfully elected office, an official from the new revolutionary government told him that if he wanted to take the office he would have to pay. My grandfather told this official that he would not pay for something that he won and earned. Grandpa did not become Mayor... The US enforced an Embargo against Cuba after Cuba appropriated US companies and lands in Cuba. Two years later, they "appropriated" my grandfather's stores and houses. People clapped and cheered because all these properties will now be distributed amongst everyone... BTW everything that my grandfather was able to accomplish... Was with a third grade education..! My grandfather never wanted to leave his homeland, he had no choice in end.Young revolutionary soldiers helped him, they were some of the same children he vaccinated when young... Its okay for you to feel bad for the Cuban people, but its the Cuban government who shackles and torments them...

@Gregrodriguez: Mucho gracias for sharing this very touching story about your grandfather. I'm always fascinated by Cuban culture 🇨🇺 & the resilience of your people. I live in the States for the past 3 decades but I was born in the D.R.Congo🇨🇩🔥🇺🇲... Our people are so connected to the Afro-Cuban peeps. We invented the Congolese Rumba back in the late 50's & 60's which is a fusion of Congolese music and Cha Cha(my father's generation). I grew up listening to Salsa music 💃🇨🇺🕺🎶 🎉🔥... I'm def planning to visit Havana...

Thank you for this interview, from an Afro Cuban American in Cleveland oh who was raised outside of Afro Latino culture. My mother was human trafficked out of Cuba in the early 1960s and placed in the Black American community, she did not know of her heritage until recent years. However, her Head Orisha Elegua (her name is Alawana) and our ancestors have brought us into the knowledge of our culture and heritage. Thank you Belly of the Beast for all you do, and to you Vice-president Francia Marquez. ASHE ASHE ASHE

@@lanatica325

She is just like everyone else so let’s have a regular interview

The town of quibdo made a carnival where they maked laugh about the ridiculous need of francia to use an helicopter to go even to her vactional house. The Quibdo town is an afrocolombian town, they owm mock of this persom who is only filled with hate. That speech about she is a woman and she is black is the speech she uses everytime someone acomplish about the fact she comes from a family of rich miners, she is earning enormous amounts of moment being part of the state, and even that way she still receiving state helps that shouls be receiving only poor people. If all this would'nt be enogh, she is talkig about opresion feom a country like cuba.

The United States will never facilitate peace between Africans (period) They are the ones who "popularized" racism and will work against all healing but the world cannot stop Africa only Africa can do that by copying the western ways. I'm so proud of President Marquez for beginning to make Swahili available in their mainstream school system. This can be a bridge for all diaspora and I for one intend to learn Swahili.
