The Jeep Compass won the Autocar India Car of the Year award a few years ago, and with good reason. However, one major absence from the line-up was a diesel-automatic variant. That was added later, but only in the form of the off-road-focused Trailhawk variant, which was very expensive. Now, however, there's a more affordable diesel automatic variant being launched, and Renuka Kirpalani has got the exclusive first drive. Plus an interview with FCA India's new boss, Partha Datta.

Viewers! The Jeep Compass BS6 diesel automatic has now been launched in two variants - the Longitude (Rs 21.69 lakh, ex-showroom) and Limited Plus (Rs 24.99 lakh, ex-showroom). This fully loaded Limited Plus variant tested here is therefore Rs 1.9 lakh cheaper than the off-road focused Compass Trailhawk, which also uses a diesel-auto powertrain. Why FCA service center is always charging for 4 litres, however engine capacity is only 3.1 liters and mechanic refused to clean the front wheel disc and billing for the same, I don't know why its happening to me only....

Hyundai, Kia, MG and likes are 1-2 segments below. Cars made to look like SUV with gadgets. Jeep compass is a solid product and aggressively priced. Same media that initially praised FCA for pricing the entry level variant so low, now compares it with cars of 2 segments below and bashes the brand.

Kia and mg, gives gadgets to play inside the car. FCA gives the car itself to play around. Nothing drives good like FCA if you know to take things in hand well and make the best out of it and push to limits. They stand in their values. It's for those who really enjoy and knows the art of driving. For them it's the best canvas in the market.

Very strong 💪 and nice 👍 car 🚘 i was very disappointed ☹️ with this car that’s it was no diesel automatic gearbox and cruise control. Now I cannot weight for buying this car 🚘. My dream car it is.. after all we pay a lot of money 💰 for this level of cars 🚘 well done Jeep Kadak gaadi 😍👌

No one would pay more than 22lacs for this car. No matter how they market it as let it be "real SUV". People don't care whether it's a real SUV or not, they care whether the product is worth the money they're putting in. Right now, kia is the best buy under 20 lacs.

This is a brilliant car ; very well put together. It's built like a tank, nice interiors, amazing dynamics. However, it is a little expensive and owning a 'jeep' isn't a very safe option. Otherwise this is one Solid SUV. Anyways, good review by RENUKA !

Very insightful and we need more such “ not just reviews”. Infact it was good to hear from someone incharge about FCA’s future Plans here. Although there were no announcements or anything concrete it does look like jeep is here to stay and will not do a vanishing act like the other family member

Jeep is playing it poorly. Compass is the only product in their portfolio rest all are imported. It seems outdated now and expensive for what it is. They came in strong and built a nice image. Should've used it to introduce more offerings in the first 2 years with the renegade and commander but they seem lazy. It's only been 6 months for Kia, MG and they've already confirmed 2 more products within this year

Jeep compass is best might be lagging behind in some features but even Kia lags behind features like panaromic sunroof n all though Kia seltos or China cars (MG) has eaten up market but compass and fortuner wud always be the first priority of any person going for a proper 4*4 N those who wanna buy compass wud definitely go for it

I owned the first model of Jeep Compass manual diesel and its my first love, but this february 2020 it got stolen, can you believe it? They lack in the security criterias of this car, i could never find it. thanks to the insurance I got my money today itself. and Here I am trying to get more information about the new model because i will buy it again but i will be putting additional security features. But if you have JEEP please put some extra security feature. lots of theft stories coming of JEEP they sell it in NEPAL

Well at the end of the day it's a bit overpriced and unless it's corrected the volumes will not come for Jeep as competition is going next level in this space. Sugarcoating has limited effects.

I seriously can not wrap my head around the sales chart and people who buy Kia Seltos and Creta upwards of 20l and not Compass. What a car this is technically. Just to highlight Creta and Seltos uses a semi independent suspension at the rear like santro and i10. I mean what is the Indian consumer looking at when he goes to buy a car... seriously 😅

The ground clearance of this car is not at all repressive compared to other cars at that price point. The front bumper is placed very low and it touches the ground easily.

Considering present market offerings Jeep Compass is too expensive. White interior & seats not easy to maintain in our Indian conditions. Reducing alloy size & increasing rubber might improve ride & handling against big alloys in Indian road conditions. According to me *Chidiya chugh gaye Khet* hard times for FIAT to survive in India with only Jeep portfolio & fewer dealers / service stn network. Inspite of its being a very good looking SUV its needs realistic pricing to stay in competition.

Authentic, Authenticity and Pedigree are great words if you are looking for investment. Not enough to sell a product. Just look at the Wrangler's pricing in India. Pathetic effort from Jeep. In today's day and age no brand is able to win in the service game, it's only the quality and VFM nature of their cars who keep their factories running.
