I don't understand why are they wasting time and so much money on these buildings? When Miami, 30 years from now, we are gonna be on the water. I don't get it.

These buildings are being built on the coastal ridge about 8-12 ft above sea level. Worst case scenario only sees 3ft of sea level rise by 2060. Beyond that, these buildings are raised an additional 6-10ft with foundations that mix the concrete and cement 30ft+ deep into the soil making it water tight. Miami's skyscrapers actually have the money to engineer for climate change. The same can't be said for working class properties.
