Alcohol and cigarettes are not normalized at all, but they are legal across the US, weed isn’t and it’s a banned substance for competition and that’s the difference. It sucks, but she made a stupid move. I hope it doesn’t screw her over more than it already has. She knew she was going to have to submit to testing.

@Reported Alotforfreespeech incorrect it’s a depressant not an enhancer it’s proven to make people lazier and have less energy there is no reason for it to be banned
@Reported Alotforfreespeech by the Olympics rules, they are allowed to use cannabis during the “recovery” period, but they cannot be high during competition. They can have a certain amount of thc in their system, but if it’s over that amount they break the rules. They can use cannabis any time before 48 hours before race day. The rules around this are so messed up and hypocritical.
@Reported Alotforfreespeech not necessarily… some would argue that it would be a disadvantage overall. There’s no evidence to show that cannabis helps with insurance and actually a lot of people experience the opposite effect when they smoke.
Well, it's kind of complicated. Cannabis contains Carboxy-THC and that's what's band. Based on current animal and human studies, cannabis can be performance enhancing for some athletes.
At 21, She lost her mother , now she lost her Gold Medal! And she did this interview without breaking down! Not only is she the fastest but she's also very Strong! Bless her!🙏🏾💯❤
@@mediaiweb It's OK dude. I just don't like when things are generalized from one thing. So I, someone in this generation, got offended a little. But no hard feelings.
Call me disrespectful, I do not care. Alcoholism is 1000x more deadly than smoking weed. If she wanted to cope that way, what is so wrong about that? Would you rather she be an alcoholic like other people that have gone through a huge loss? Yes, I am genuinely annoyed and that is because I have to deal with an alcoholic parent and I promise you it is not fun at all. Marijuana should take alcohol's place in stores. But the karens won't allow that because then they can't get hammered after sunday meet..
The "reporter" who chose to tell her "before" a race that her mother had died , before her Family had the chance to tell her , that guy is pure garbage ... What a low class thing to do to another human being just to say "I was the first one to tell her" !
@@cindiedelius6258 I am blown away that her own family didn't tell her????? Any normal person would learn of a family death from the family. What is up with that?
To be honest, coping with the loss of her mom was indeed hard. Especially considering her age. And she is being very honest, she has taken accountability for her actions. God bless her with more talent. Crash more races Sha'Carri Richardson.
@@bradcanning875 No one is suggesting she get special treatment. The rules were made a long time ago and since then marijuana is legal and used regularly for depression, insomnia, and chronic pain. It does not affect or enhance physical performance. The rule should be changed permanently for all athletes going forward, not just for her.
When competitively eating “Funyons” becomes an Olympic event, then and ONLY then could marijuana be legitimately considered a performance-enhancing drug.
Took accountability. What interview did u watch. She skirted around the truth. I kno what I did and that I wasn’t supposed to do it Bt did it anyway. And did she just throw her teammates under the bus. The last time USA don’t get the gold. 🤦🏻♀️

@@henryxavier3751 It shouldn't be against the rules in the first place. They need to be changed. Yeah sure she knew, but it should be changed now to not be against the law or rules in the future.
Agreed. I respect her for being honest and mature by taking accountability. I’ve seen other athletes blame other things for why they failed their drug test, like how Shelby Houlihan tested positive for steroids and is still currently blaming the results on a pork burrito that she had eaten the day prior to her drug test.
@@JW-1089 Exactly. And then she appeals to everyone's emotions like she doesn't have access to a psychologist. There's literally a team psychologist for on and off track issues like what she went through.
Self sabotage. She knew it was against the rules and would be tested. Those closest to her do not love her. This was supposed to be her Olympics, but not anymore. She needs to dump those so called friends who helped her throw away her golden opportunity.
How can we normalize alcohol & cigarettes yet, have a COMPLETELY different view on marijuana. If most people knew the history behind the war on drugs and why marijuana became illegal to begin with, a lot more people would be upset. Rules are rules, but wow 🥺
She's still a kid and she made a mistake. We've all fallen from grace at some point in our life. I pray she will learn from this experience. Life is about the journey.
"not a mistake... She was conscious"? A conscious error or lapse in judgement is literally what a mistake is. She made a mistake. Hopefully she does even better in the future
If she was mature, she would have gotten a Therapy instead of smoking weed to cope, or that is what she is telling us. Nobody just decide to smoke weed. She probably smoked weed before also.

The parts of her statement i hear her words in didnt do her any justice. But ill give her some credit for not taking this L behind the scenes. Its still all time embarrassing.
I'm so sorry to hear that her biological mom has died during the Olympic trials, she was only trying to cope with the death of her mom and boom she is banned! Marijuana is not a performance-enhancing substance. Sending her lots of love from Canada.
that was her excuse...she smokes everyday....she is a pot head and it is on the banned substance list,so she chose her path...she knew exactly what she was doing....
It’s some type of chemical in the weed that showed up and it’s against the Olympics rules. This is a big blow for her and us, but it’s clear she’s learned her lesson and she’s being a big girl about it and will be back.
Cannabis is a Substances prohibited in-competition on the list of banned substances for all athletes and she knew it , but still took it so she is rightly banned and at no time in her interview did see actually tell young kids not to take it all said is if you do you have to take the consequences I hope she get banned for longer
You got to follow the rules . Everyone else that is going followed the rules . You do not get to break the rules and still compete . I agree marijuana isn't bad. I smoke almost everyday however there are rules and you have to follow them . It's not fair if you get to enjoy something and no other athlete gets to enjoy it. Marijuana is 100% a performance enhancing drug. It enhances your mind and provides instant anxiety relief . Every single athlete feels anxiety. The fact that she got relief from the anxiety for even a second gives her an advantage.
Marijuana is an antidepressant/anti anxiety med as well as anti epileptic med. if Flo Jo did cannabis she might’ve lived because she died from a seizure.
@@bwp714 that's a singular experience. Weed is not a performance enhancing drug in any form. What might cause you relief might cause others terror, what gives you clarity might give others a haze. The only argument someone can have for cannabis is the medicinal benefits for inflammation. The mental aspect is riddled garbage. Test have proven, both mental and physical, that people who are not habitual users of cannabis score much higher on the stated test under sober conditions. The notion of "I do things better high" is a bs deflection from smokers who do not want to admit to an addiction. - 20 year hardcore grower/smoker that finally decided to face reality instead of living in a comfortable caccoon of imprisonment.
Also, we don’t know if everyone else followed the rules and just didn’t get caught. Weed is easy to flush out your system before a urine test. A lot of career/educated people smoke weed because their are less side effects than fda drugs. Anti depressants and other fda drugs cause seizures and marijuana prevents seizures. This is why it was demonized by corporations/politicians. It can effectively put pharmaceuticals out of business. Follow the money. The only reason it’s legal is so they can profit now.
I hate to be the one to say this but it does in fact enhance your performance maybe because you tolerate pain a little more I’m not sure but I remember when I used to play soccer me and my friends would always smoke before playing and the other guys we were playing with would get bodied then they would say “it’s not fair you guys are high that’s why you keep winning” haha it was probably true
And that makes her admirable and wonderful. we all make mistakes and I really hope they allow her back into the Olympics to show we reward responsible behavior.
@@TheThugNasty No. I just understand more the hesitation or refusal to talking to the press. Richardson should not get the news that her mother died from a reporter right before the most important race of her life up to that point.

Whether it's legalized where you live or not, the athletes and others know what is a banned substance for them and if you choose to take it, you know the possible consequences. She herself even acknowledged she knew the risk. It's legal where I live also, but I cannot use it because it's not allowed by my work. We get random drug tested and if I were to do it and get caught I could get fired. I know the risk so I don't take it. It's really as simple as that.
She forgot to add that she's also a lot stupider than most as she took a banned substance, got caught and threw away potentially millions of dollars in endorsements and sponsorships which would have made hers and her families lives much better.
Nobody talks about how a reporter brought up her biological mother’s death out of the blue instead of discussing and disclosing it privately to her and her family. That’s probably why she puffed on one!
