Have you ever considered using labrodorite powder as a clay temper? Paint flux? or any pottery application?... I have often wondered if some stones would work better than sand and pottery sherds crushed up.
It's definitely not a native gemstone to the southwest. But.... that idea crossed my mind too! Haha You know how mica in the temper flashes... I was wondering if blue flashes could happen. I might have to perform this experiment now!
@@willorocks We have Labradorite over here in Cibola County, and close cousins sunstone, moonstone, and Peridot. Some feldspar has a low melting point. We will let you know if we get a chance to try it. Many blessings to you, Sir!
I highly recommend Aluminum Oxide powder for the final polishing. If it's stubborn to shine, you can try Cerium Oxide, but rarely, needed for Labradorite. Hope that helps! And thanks for watching!!
You can get some at any lapidary store, Amazon sells in, under Polly Plastics, I use the stuff from Loretone, but it's all the same, brand don't matter. Hope that helps, if you have any other questions let me know! You'll love the hobby. Thanks for watching!!
@@willorocks thank you for fast reply ^^ ah thats a problem for a small EU country.. all of that i can find on US ebay, but non ship to us :/ all i have access to atm is cerium, and that just leaks into most gemstone micro-holes/cracks and i can't get it out, so it ruins the gem... I'll have to keep searching.
@@wonder246 Oh! Cerium Oxide is actually really good stuff! It's pretty pricey in the states. But really good stuff. You might be using to much if it's getting plugged up in little cracks or pits. This is more common if you're tumbling rocks in a tumbler. Try using less on the pad. Another option is, if you have a sonic tank cleaner, you can toss your rock in there, and it usually is able to clean out the residue pretty quickly. I have an older video titled "How to Tumble Cabochons Part 3 - Final Results" around 10:31 time stamp you'll see a rock I have with white powder stuck in it. I the sonic cleaner to blast it out. A little goes a long ways, so try using less Cerium. Hope that helps!!
@@willorocks Thank you very much on the advice. Sonic toothbrush didn't help, but i have ordered the cleaner and I'm excited to give that a try. Yes I do use a generous amount of cerium on my pad...will try with less. Pad dries very quickly so I keep adding more :D Will just damp it with water more often. Thanks again :)
I've had great polishing with aluminum oxide, if it's being stubborn you could opt for trying some cerium oxide powder as an alternative. Thanks for watching!
sir i am making free forms of these labaradorite but it is not coming as a clear as the internet ones . any tips on how to cut it better for free forms
Sure thing, in my About Me section my email's there, I can take a look at it. If it's cutting problems, it could be cause from vibrations in your blade. I find spending some time really getting those pits and scratches out in the early steps really helps too.
