One of the greatest sporting achievements EVER - truly the Hardest Geezer of all time, and an absolute inspiration. Hats off to that living (and now forever a) legend

Olsen ran from Egypt to the southern tip, so yes he ran the length of Africa, but our boy Russ ran the ENTIRE length of Africa, tip to tip. One look at the routes and I reckon there’s no dispute. Man’s a legend!
@anton__84
@anton__84 Месяц назад
The record is still open because he got in a car at end of runs to go to a hotel then back to his last stop. If someone starts from the bottom to the top but camps in a tent every night and not get into a car then they are the true first so it’s there for the taking. The moment his feet were carried off the ground he lost the whole record.
@xNorth931
@xNorth931 Месяц назад
@@anton__84 What are you waffling?? He tracked every meter on Strava. Where he finished for the day is where he started the next day. Did you expect him to fall asleep at the very spot he finished running for the day? He stayed in His van/truck more than hotels
@anton__84
@anton__84 Месяц назад
@@xNorth931 Yes you camp you don’t get in a car it doesn’t matter if you come back to the exact location it’s got to be uninterrupted to be a record. I give you another example people rowing the Atlantic cannot row for a day then get onto a yacht then start again the next day. In your head I can start running get into a helicopter at the end of the day fly to a hotel for a week if I want to then go back to where I finished and set off again. How is that a record?

Yeah fun idea, but completely unrealistic if you think about it for longer than a quarter of a second@@anton__84
@greedyboi011

@@anton__84 bro it makes no difference to the difficulty of the run if you stay in one place and sleep in a tent/car (which he did most of the time fyi) vs getting in a car and driving to a hotel and then back the start point. At the end of the day running the length of Africa is a huge logistical challenge and as you can see from his experience often the running is the easiest part, the injuries, illness and borders are harder and he overcame all of them to stay the course. If you care about it being uninterrupted all you are waiting for, is someone with more money to throw at the logistical operation so that they can remain uninjured, illness free and have someone streamlining borders, which in my opinion is not even as impressive, tent or not.

The people debating if he is the first to do this are clueless. No person has ever run from the southern most point of Africa to the northern most point of Africa. Fact.

@greedyboi011 Месяц назад
Agreed. As for the other two attempts while both impressive, the British guy finished at the pyramids in Cairo, which is well short of russ's attempt and I can't find the official start point for the danish guy but again it was in Egypt and doesn't seem like a true length of Africa to me. Feel like World Runners Association are just begging for validation because which one of them decided the length of Africa was a debatable distance?

I give to charity. Unwanted items around the house I bring to local charity shops, relating to both people, animals and the environment. I donate £20 a month to the Royal Society for Prevention Cruelty to Animals. When I buy stamps at the post office I always say they can keep the change and that change goes to charity. But I don't phone the newspapers about it and tell a camera crew to start running the cameras because I'm buying stamps. Highly publicized charity that's uploaded to every corner of the internet isn't really charity at all, it's all done for someone's ego.
