EXCLUSIVE, VIDEO INTERVIEW: The genuinely ‘cool’ Evapolar next-gen model, evaSMART launching September
iTWire readers are the first in the world to see the new successor to the widely successful Evapolar evaLIGHT, the bigger, better, app-controllable and still super-portable evaSMART personal microclimate experience creator!
Last year, an iTWire colleague had the change to review the first Evapolar evapolar.com/ personal microclimate solution, the evaLIGHT EV-1000 series, and gave it top marks www.itwire.com/peripherals/75... for keeping its cool so you can keep your cool - up close and personal.
At Evapolar’s “How it works” page, we can see that it looks like it comes from a very Star Trek-like future, with its technology that “cools the air via natural evaporative cooling, humidifies the air allowing for easier breathing, and filters out dust particles, which is essential for allergy sufferers.”
It operates via a USB cable (microUSB for the evaLIGHT and USB-C for the upcoming, new evaSMART EV-3000 series, with 4-6 hours of operating time for the evaLIGHT and around 8 hours for the evaSMART - and it can even be powered by the same portable battery you use to power up your phone.
The company kicked off with a hugely successful Indiegogo campaign in 2015, which received support from over 6,000 early adopters and helped the company raise well over US $1 million.
Now, the company prepares to launch its next-gen evaporative cooler, the evaSMART EV-3000 series, which can now be controlled via an iOS or Android app, via Amazon Echo, and which will also be compatible with Google Home, Apple HomeKit and more in the near future.
The company’s Business Development Director, Irina Yakubovskaya, arrived in Australia yesterday to prepare for this week’s separate “TGE The Gadget Expo” in Melbourne from 19 to 20 August www.melbournehomeshow.com.au and “The Home Show” from 17 to 20 August, both at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre www.tge.melbourne , with stands at both shows, ready for the upcoming hot Australian summer, ready for pre-orders and preparing relationships with the industry so you’ll be able to buy Evapolar models both online, and at retail.
The evaSMART will retail for AUD $370, compared to the evaLIGHT at $280 and is slightly larger without detracting from its very easy portability.
Other standout differences include the new model being quieter at 25-40 decibels compared with 27-45 decibels of the original, has nearly double the water capacity, offers greater cooling power, a larger volumetric flow rate, and has that app compatibility for those who wish to control evaSMART via their smart device, as anyone reading this article is very likely to want to do!
So, when I was offered an opportunity to meet up with Irina to learn all about Evapolar, and more importantly the new evaSMART, I was definitely interested in doing so!
In addition to allowing me to interview her on video, Irina offered me the opportunity to film an unbox video, which we did together as she showed me the various aspects of the evaSMART. Irina explained that iTWire was the first publication the evaSMART was being shown to, globally, so we are the first to see the evaSMART in action.
Given Australia has very hot summers, I will be very excitedly looking forward to reviewing the new evaSMART over our summer months, to experience the cooling effects for myself.
In the video, you’ll hear a hum, which is the evaLIGHT that you can see lit up with its blue light, with the evaSMART set to be quieter as noted above.
In the video interview, we discussed Evapolar’s history and the technology within, we talked about the Indiegogo campaign, we talked about the evaSMART and what made it different and better than the original evaLIGHT.
We talked about what kind of future technologies Evapolar has in store for future models, we talked about pricing, interfaces, smart technology, more on the future, great advice Irina has received over the years to help her get where she is today, and her final message to iTWire viewers and readers, and to Evapolar’s current and future customers.
After that we recorded a separate unboxing video of the evaSMART, with both videos embedded below.
So, to conclude, the evaSMART looks like an excellent second-generation device that improves on the first, meaning the first is a great unit for those who don’t need app controllability and who want a lower price, while the new evaSMART adds some nice extras and more power for a little more money.
I look forward to doing a full review in the not-too-distant future, with the evaSMART available to order globally via the Evapolar website www.evapolar.com from September 12, with Evapolar’s global partners able to pre-order now.

I see that all of the negative comments are from 2+ years ago. I bought this discounted on the popular science shop, I just filled it up and it has been working great, no connectivity issues, no leaking. My theory is that with the newer products, there were more issues, but they were flattened out over the past 2 years.

As I just replied to someone else in this comment stream, the unit really does work. If you don't have real aircon in your house, this is WAY BETTER that just a fan. I love my Evapolar and it makes a real difference in the hot summers where I live.

On a personal level I've really enjoyed using the evapolar, but as with all things in life, your mileage may vary.

Do you think it can cover a 4m2 room? I am about to buy this thing... Thank you
@AlexonTech
@AlexonTech 4 года назад
No, it is for personal use only, it needs to be very close to you and blowing directly on you. It is meant to provide a bubble of comfort, not to cool down an entire room. If you want to cool down a room, you need a proper air conditioner. If you get a portable air conditioner, then make sure you can properly vent to hot air out a window in a sealed manner, if you can vent the hot air out properly then the portable air conditioner won’t do a good job.

Is this a swamp cooler?
@AlexonTech

Hi Aldo, yes, this is an evaporative cooler, or a swamp cooler as you put it,, but vastly more modern. The basic principle remains, however, and that's why it works.

You’ll have to contact Evapolar to find out, the home automation space has had a lot of issues, look how long it took for the Matter standard to come out. Also this video was filmed well before Covid, so many changes from the massive disruption that caused, too. I am not making excuses for Evapolar, if they promised it they should have delivered it, but sometimes things don’t go as planned.

I do NOT recommend Evapolar 2 (1 is great). There are quite a few problems with the device, the biggest problem being the Wi-Fi connection must be of the 2.4GHz type or the device is rendered limited and it's really not worth the effort and money.
@AlexonTech
@AlexonTech 6 лет назад
Hi MA, all functions of the EvaPolar 2 are possible via the control panel on top of the device, no Internet connection is needed whatsoever. The Internet connection is only so you can control the unit via the app, but again, you don't need the app or a phone or an internet connection if you don't want to use those things to control the Evapolar 2. The Evapolar 2 has a more powerful fan for greater volumetric air flow, stores more water so it lasts longer between needing its water cartridge refilled, and is a nicer and better unit than the first. It's an evolution from the first model and is a welcome one. First model is still awesome too, though!

Alex on Tech - this is news to me. I asked Richie in Evapolar Support. I can turn the device on/off and fiddle with the light, but I do not have full access of all the options. Also, I do HAVE 2.4GHz connection and it DOES NOT CONNECT. We are experiencing 41 celsius (106 fahrenheit), so I am a little hot 'n bothered by this.

Hi! Thanks for your comment. Sorry to hear that you happen to have issues with the App. As Alex said, you still can control the device without the App and Wifi connection. We indeed have been experiencing some problems with the App functionality. But our team has already developed a new version of the App with all fixes.

This Evapolar product is useless. The call that a/c but it shouldn’t. It’s only moving the air like a fan.
@AlexonTech
@AlexonTech 4 года назад
It's an evaporative cooler. It definitely isn't "just" a fan. The top of the unit has a temperature readout, you can see the temperature drop by up to 10 degrees, and I can tell you, having used it the last two summers, it makes a difference! Is it as good as REAL aircon? No, no evaporative cooler is. Also this can't cool down a whole room, but it doesn't promise that. It just promises to cool the area right in front of it - it's a personal cooling unit, and on a hot day, I have definitely appreciated it when I have been in places that have had no aircon. I have also appreciated its cooling breeze when trying to sleep on hot sticky nights - this evaporative cooler has meant the difference between being able to sleep, vs tossing and turning and not getting good sleep at all. So, in no way, shape or form is this product useless. There are plenty of clones of this product on the market, I have a couple of the cheap ones too, and while they don't look as fancy and don't have temperature readouts, Wi-Fi or app connectivity, the cheap ones work, too.

I respect your opinion and am glad the first amendment affords you the liberty to share it with everyone! On a personal level I can’t agree with your opinion because my experience has been different, but I can certainly agree that REAL aircon can provide a level of cooled air that is many orders of magnitude colder than any evaporative cooler can deliver. It has to be said, however, that both technologies are different, deliver different levels of cooling and have very different costs and power consumption levels. Anyway, thank you again for watching the video and for sharing your opinion, that’s why I leave the comment sections open, I want to hear people’s opinions, whatever they may be. Thank you for taking the time to comment, it is appreciated.
