Possibly the prettiest production car of the last 20 years. Alfa Romeo still has it. The proportions are perfect, not excessively big and bulky like so many modern sports and super cars.

The new one is stunning. Gorgeous car. But the original? Still my absolute favourite car of all time. Not only the proportion is right, but the detail and the SIZE of it. It’s TINY! I already knew this having seen one in the flesh but it still bowls me over. What a glorious thing.
@gr182
@gr182 11 месяцев назад
When I first saw a Maserati MC20 in the flesh I was shocked how large it is. Unfortunately these dimensions define alot of the parameters. Also all the crash regulations etc force cars to get bigger. If you had a big crash in the original you would be dead.
@Beer_Dad1975
@Beer_Dad1975 11 месяцев назад
I'd say the original is indeed an icon. The new one? I don't like it - it's too bulbous, and to me comes across as a bit of a caricature. The interior is beautiful though - but at 1.7 million euros you'd hope it's pretty damn special.
@Art-is-craft
@Art-is-craft 11 месяцев назад
@@gr182 I think it has more to do with comfort. In the 1950s to 1980s Alfa was a young persons car which tends to mean more athletic drivers. Today only older wealthy people can afford such cars which means less athletic drivers hence why the cars are large.

@@Art-is-craft The Tipo 33 Stradale was the most expensive car of its day. Only the supremely rich could buy one. The tally of 17 or 18 examples includes five chassis bodied by styling houses, like the Bertone Carabo (Gandini). This is evidently a major inspiration for the Countach - also Gandini.

Although it's pleasing that Alfa remain active in producing race-ready exotica, it's a shame that the brand isn't balancing their range with accessable cars for Alfisti, like myself, who are crying out for a modern-day Alfasud to be offered instead of pricy, two-pedalled SUVs as a precept of marketing reactions.

100% agree. Alfa seems so polarised in their offerings. Unobtanium like this and the 8C, the ambitious but flawed 4C, then things like the ToeNail. Imagine if they built something on the GR86 platform in a collab with Toyota, or followed Fiat with a Mazda collab on the MX-5 platform. The Giulia could have been a catalyst for a strong cloverleaf sub-brand.

Totally agree. I’m beginning to fear, now Alfa is allegedly in the black, their future is catering to the wealthy as they did in the 1920-40s. As an Alfisti, that really grinds. We can hope Alfa pull another trick and produce a cheap(er), driver-focused car for Alfisand keen drivers but, with ever tightening green legislation, loss of interest in connoisseur driving et al, I just can’t see it.

When this car was released, I remember thinking to myself, "look how the massacred my boy." I can't love this car. To me, the original 33 Stradale is the most beautiful car ever made, possibly the most beautiful object man has ever sculpted. It is my favourite car. I understand that the spokesperson/designer wanted to keep the legacy intact for the original 33 Stradale by somewhat separating the two and by not outright copying that design for the new car...but I think they should have. No one would have complained, and I think that's a copout sentiment. This car is, as we all know, based on the Maserati MC20. Therefore this new 33 Stradale was going to look a certain way as the design had to conform to the MC20's hardpoints. It's kind of like the A90 Supra to the FT-1 concept, where you've got an image in mind of what you want the car to look like, but you have a platform with compromises that you need to work with. I don't think Alfa Romeo pulled off a successful reinterpretation, honestly. It's not that the car is ugly...it's fine. But I am of the opinion that if you're going to take the 33 Stradale's nameplate, you need to make the car look more like the original 33 Stradale. When you compare photos side-by-side with the original 33 Stradale and the new one, you begin to see the characteristics they share. But the new one doesn't do the delicate touches as well as the original. They didn't need to shorten the front end as much as they did for the new 33 Stradale, it could have had a much longer overhang. The side air intake looks tacked on (in design), as opposed to looking integrated into the body like on the original 33 Stradale, and that's not just because of the carbon fiber's darkness. Then there's that tragic rear bumper, which just looks...awful. Sorry. How DeTomaso's P72 gets away with its rear end, I don't know. But if they can do it , then surely Alfa could have, right? But by far the biggest issue, in terms of styling, is the body lines. They do not flow like the original 33 Stradale, they're far too flat. One of the defining characteristics of the original 33 Stradale is the "hips" it has, both vertically and horizontally. But again, due to the compromises of the platform, this wasn't going to be possible. It's deeply upsetting that Alfa didn't take notes from Ford's 05'-06' GT and see how successful a more honest reinterpretation of a company's historic model turned out to be. Back then, that GT car didn't initially sell well. But we live in a different time, and I think Alfa would have had no problem selling a more honest 33 Stradale reinterpretation. And it's not as though Alfa couldn't make a new 33 Stradale that looks closer to the original car. They could, if they were given more freedom to use a bespoke chassis. If DeTomaso can make the P72 look as voluptuous as it does, Alfa could have done the same, had they been granted approval to make their own bespoke platform. At the price they're asking, it's sad that the buyers are basically getting rebodied MC20's and not much else. It's not like the MC20's platform is bad. But for the price of the new 33 Stradale, customer's are not nearly getting enough for the money. The new car's interior is at least a winner, no issues there. I know my take is that of the minority, but I stand by my sentiment that if you (Alfa Romeo) are going to make a reinterpretation of the most beautiful ever made, you've gotta come correct. And I think Alfa Romeo missed the mark. Hard. At least with the 4c they took elements from the 33 Stradale, drew some comparisons, but didn't take the nameplate. This new 33 Stradale should have been given its own nameplate. But my opinion won't stop the rich from buying it, and OEMs have figured out that rebodying their cheaper cars to look somewhat like their most iconic models is a good way to rake in cash (new Countach, for example). I won't be hanging a photo of the new 33 Stradale on my wall like I have of the original. It offends me too much. For what Alfa Romeo is asking, buyers should instead place an order for M.A.T's Jewelry 33 Stradale.

You're so right, I cannot understand why there is so much love for this? As a multiple former Alfa owner I'm a really disappointed with this

It's a grower, that is for certain to my eyes. Initially I was unsure, but the more I look at it, the more I like it. Fantastic work.

I agree this car should not be offered as electric but in general, sadly, I don't think they have much of a choice?

The most beautiful car I've seen in years. Truly a piece of sculpture which will age wonderfully - Its a masterstroke not adding a screen to the interior 👌

The original 33 Stradale is always my answer to the question “What car would you get if money was no object?”. Does the new one envoke the same emotions? Can’t really say so. But it’s still a great design with lots of little details paying homage to the original car and the brand’s history. If only they haven’t overdone the front-end/headlight area that much…

They ruined this car with the front end. It looks really stupid. Too flat and edgy.

A nice nod with the length of the video 😉 I like this new one very much and the clever idea to hide the screen away under the dash is genius! I think I’d rather have the original one though… just gorgeous!

Among all these super expensive cars, this would be my favourite, love the rear, the silhouette and the no fuss interior. Would actually love to be able to buy some of the pictures of the design study shown at the beginning...sadly, there s none of that in the official Alfa store (which seems to be very neglected overall btw, no pics/prints at all). Harry or Alfa, if you read this, there s a market for good prints, I petition to make these pictures available to us as prints...you already created them for the museum, why not selling prints at reasonable prices to all those who love your design icon (I know it s not gonna be cheap but make it reasonable!).
