That is my favorite redesign of yours so far! Despite the praise, I am not quite happy with the official redesign, especially on the backside and you made it that much more elegant as I was missing it to be.
I still dislike the angry lights in the rear, the round lights were so iconic ! making them look like an evil face just for aggressive sake is the complete opposite of what the 33 represents
The original is absolutely stunning. The new one is quite stunning, as well but Frank has improved it IMMENSELY. And his reasons for these changes are well thought out. Awesome video, sir!
@@fitnesspoint2006You simply don't have taste if you're unable to see the difference, and unable to recognize the design nods to the original 33 even after Frank *spoonfed* them to you. That's also why you use distasteful language, because that's all you are, Tasteless.
@@fitnesspoint2006 I’m not convinced that’s how to describe people who agree fp. Because you should be able to back up your reasons for preferring one thing over another. Your lack of an eye for detail doesn’t justify your opinion.
@@FrankStephensondesign *There's something about* the less-aggressive, more-organic appearance of the revised headlight recess that reminds me of the unloved third-generation Toyota MR2. I apologise, I realise that's a horrible thing to say-I do love the less-contrived surfacing of the bonnet, but I think it can exist without reshaping the headlights.
The production value is super high. It's better than some Netflix documentaries. I really liked the changed air intake. It's a mid-ship air intake, it's exotic, it needs no more jazzing up. Having said that I would happily drive the Alfa version, it's very pleasing to the eye.
One of the cleanest purest automotive designs ever. I mean the original one. It's art. The new one is also quite nice representation. It would be nice to see more of the modern designs to be such an instant classic. Great video Frank. Thanks!
Some particularly well-judged and rationalised evolutions of the design, Frank, particularly smoothing out the sharp angled creases on the hood and rounding off the bottom end of the headlights. I'll need to see if I can get a custom carbon-fibre body kit for my own 33 Stradale when it gets delivered...
Work of art. These small details are a big difference and the more I look at it the more I feel disappointed that it didn't turn out the exact same way as yours. Phenomenal.
It's a beautiful vehicle indeed, but I agree with every one of your changes Frank. A wonderful video, and clearly a love letter to Alfa and the 33 Stradale. Gorgeous :)
Awesome video! I am a painter not a car designer but i pay attention to your advice on balance, flow and continuation of lines, and overall communication and bring those ideas into my paintings
I looked at the new 33 many a time and thought "yeah that's nice", but then watching this vid mad me appreciate and notice details I wouldn't have otherwise. Awesome video as always.
Frank's modifications are on the spot. Personally I would shorten a bit that speedtail for a more nimble look. The tail light side plates are definitely too much on the new design so Frank's take in that is the best update of his on the whole design in my opinion.
Although some changes you made work really well, overall I like Alfa's team design better. Here's where I think your changes were for the better: - In the front I would go for your softer bonnet aproach without those sharp lines. The rest not so much. - In the sides I like what you did with the air intake, the low carbon fiber piece and the Four Leaf Clover. - In the back I would only go for the license plate change and those reflection lights (they seem pulled of a Punto or a Panda), the rest seem better in the original. It's my opinion, usually I go with the redesigns you do, but in this case still prefer what they did. Great video. Cheers!
Agree with ALL your feedback. Been watching you for years and this episode is the best one, considering how special the 33 Stradale is🏆 You smoothed out the front - Bravo!! You improved the C Pillar area - YES ! You simplified but added class to the side intake AND rear of the car - Revolutionary !!! I like how you superimpose your suggestion drawings over the original. Entertaining and Informational 🙏 Keep these vids coming !! 👍👍
I've been driving Alfa Romeo for almost 40 years and my absolute favorite car is of course the 33 Stradale. The new interpretation of the 33 is extraordinary, but Frank's suggestions make it a work of art on a par with the epochal original. Thank you very much for this sensitive and highly competent introduction to the world of design.
I love both the original new design and the new version by Frank Stephenson. If I would be so fortunate to have the choice of either, which of course I don't, I would slightly prefer Frank's version, as it is more smooth and flowing. But I really agree with Frank's praise of the new design by Alfa Romeo, it's nice to see his appreciation of this masterpiece, even if he found some details that could be even slightly better. Loved this video, thank you!
Higher fenders and diving smooth hood ‘valley’ is exactly what I was hoping to see - but that end-plate treatment to catch that curving line is pure genius!
ok, your redesign of the new Countach and 33 Stradale are both spot on. you now have my permission to redesign my favorite car ever, the Alfa Romeo 8C, and i'm not nervous about it.
Some of the elements you redesigned look better, such as the bonnet, the rear end (as seen from the rear) and the side glass. Oh, and I like the front grill simplification. Genius! But the wheel arches are too retro and make the front end looks even shorter. The front lights are too big with the lower side rounded. And the rear end seems too low, when seen from the side, although as I mentioned, it looks great from the rear. Cool shirt and color though Frank!
What a great redesign!... For me, the most important changes you've made are the front bonnet - a zillion times better, particularly the air intake on the side - that change is massive as well and really enhances the look of the car in line with the classic design, the back end re-design - much, much better and, strangely-enough, the repositioning of the side logo - I like what you've done, much better that the original. All in all, your redesign has brought the new model much closer to the classic version, and for the better. Brilliant.
It's a great car, but being just a car enthusiast, and design in general, I always thought there were details that didn't fit. Your design certainly shows where they are and has taken the car to another level of aesthetics and beauty.
I preferred the sleek and curvier lines of the original and had guessed that it would be the 33 Stradale which would be redesigned for the supercar when chatting with my fellow Alfisti before the launch. When I first saw the new design, I didn't like the high back either and felt the designer "chopped it off unnaturally" . I like your re-design making the back lower, taking in the points of a lower place for the number plate and reflector lights. You have put a lot of thought in the re-design and it is one I very much prefer
Frank; amazing redesign; you've absolutely nailed it - tweaked to perfection and the new 33 Stradale was pretty good to start with. I'm always amazed by the effect that details have on an overall design. P.S. Putting that sensual curve back into the space between the two front fenders is transformative.
Amazing video, always feel so inspired listening to such a master of design talking. I love the render format, but miss your old background with your model cars on the shelf!! I think all your tweaks were on point, you transformed the rear with those few masterful touches. I really like what you did with the intake over the rear wheel but I just felt the opening looked like it wants to be a bit larger. Looking forward to the next video, all the best. 🤘🏻
Always a pleasure to watch your videos, hear your professional opinion and your reasoning behind the changes. These videos make me feel like switching careers to car design.
Hi Frank, I usually think you improve the designs. In this case, I prefer the original. The 'imperfections' you have corrected were largely what gave it some character and tension, a bit like the original, a bit like a Zagato design. The 2023 33 is close to perfect, IMO - I think the rear reflectors, while a small detail, were about all it needed!
Both the original design and your re-render are absolutely stunning but I do have the impression that the launch of the 33 untouched contains plenty aesthetic compromises. Harry's Garage went through the design history shown on the wall during presentation to the press. The initial idea looked very edgy as if the team of designers had played with transformer dolls lol. To get to the current point at launch must have been quite some internal struggle perhaps still leaving many reminiscences to the very first render. Of course, I'm speculating but this is just my impression. Both the original design as is now and your re-render are absolutely stunning but I tend to prefer your alterations ❤
Hi Frank, I agree with almost all your suggestions, except your treatment of the rear lights. I actually love when lights look like they have an ‘ angry eye’ effect , and there is almost a piece chopped off%. Your channel is cool!
AR 33 vs Ferrari 330? Also, I was thinking about this a lot, I'd love to see a video of how you originally designed one of your significant models, I'd say probably f430 and what was then changed for production model and how did it evolve from initial design to best design to deleteing features and why for the production vehicle P.S.: I'm hugely grateful that AR is again doing good and pumping great cars, I think this will also bump the value of 4C and 8C
Beautiful tribute to the icon. Your design is even better, especially the front end! I'm not so sure about the rear end. Your version looks a little bit too big or long from the side view or the wheels look small. I'm not sure but it looks off for me. I love your cleaner end as well, love the complex thoughts and the simpler design. Love the red elements on the tail lights! They were missing for me once I saw it. From the side view the end looks like it is falling down. But from all other views it looks stunning! Love your work. Such a great source of inspiration! For me it is the best modern Alfa Romeo the Touring Disco Volante. For me it is the most beautiful modern car ever made!
I would say that you NAILED IT!!! How ever I do understand (although I do not agree) how and why new designers attempt to create an esthetic to keep up with the current trends of technological design, which is the antithesis of an emotional architecture and line flow.
I may not understand traditional art nor appreciate its beauty much but in terms of car design, I could spend days staring at a beautiful design. Your redesign is incredible.
I love what you did. The downside is, after watching your videos, that every time I see live one of the cars you've reviewed I think of what could have been.
I learn so much about design in each video... also is so interestering to listen at every detail of what sensation it gives each shape or touch... Also how hard but so satisfying is to make each line match other car line
I did not know anything like this would be possible, your explanations and the overall improvement on something that seem ok to me is astonishing. Thanks for sharing
Man, that rear end with the more sloped design brings the tail lights down to near the exshaust pipes to the exact perfect ammount, just brings the whole thing together perfectly
Your best video yet! Loving the clear visual representation of your ideas directly onto the car, carries your points across much better than any other way previously used imo. The flow of the video is also nice, everything very well timed. Congrats! And what a car!
Again, again, and again. Sr. Stephenson, you show how much prettier a car can become when a dose of organic fluidity is applied. In addition you also show respect to the original design without copying details too much. I find current car design to be very stylistically forced. New designers should be required to be better artists by hand and they should have a familiarity sculpting with clay. The cars of today will not age as well as the cars of earlier times. For me, that is a shame. I also admire that you have great reverence, kindness, and respect to the design team in question. Your insights are always welcome and appreciated. I look forward to your next video. Saludos.
So gorgeous. "Manna from heaven" for those of us who see vehicle architecture as art, as the paintings hanging in a national gallery. So thankful, these designs of flair and movement exist in a world of utilitarian boxes that are SUVs.
It is a tricky one, because on the one hand, continuing the spirit of the original, and on the other hand taking it to the future are both of importance. Personally, whilst I appreciate some of the suggestions: headlights, reshaping of the side intakes, the suggested change to the grill unit, I am not sure about the change to the rear from the side profile, however from the rear 3/4, I can see the improvement...Great analysis, and I whole heartedly agree with the view that the sculpted upper body, and the technical lower section in carbon fibre are irreconcilable; the contrast is too great, and this emanates from the MC20.
I like your revisions in the front and on the side skirts. I'm not crazy about the changes to the side and rear except moving the license plate lower. Nice work overall.
😢 You really captured the spirit of the original, that rear redesign suddenly gave the car back it's original character, I was like, waooo there you are 😮. so sad it'll never see the light of day.
😮😮 ohhh my gosh Frank!!! What a mindbending work of art you have created! ❤️❤️ It was pleasure to watch this video, it took me almost an hour because I was pausing, analyzing and rewinding it a lot This is my absolute favorite of your redesigns! Thank you!
bravo, the adjustment Frank made are genius, i especially like how the rear end is way more striking i can't stop looking at it, it went from good to really trigger emotions...
It’s always great to see projects like this come to life… loved the analysis and detailed oriented critique, which deeply resonated with the design philosophy from the original form. This video is so packed with design lessons that needs to be watched more than once… thank you! 🙏🏻
The worst thing about these redesign videos is that the original design you alter looks bad afterward. It is honestly ridiculous how much I prefer your designs. no-nonsense beauty is the best word I can describe it with. Love these videos as well and can't wait for the next one:) Great job Mr Stephenson.
Your alterations are just what the doctor ordered. I’ve seen this car only in pictures and what disturbed me were the angular cuts to the bottom of the headlights. I now feel vindicated, since you too found it incomplete. I find your side view alterations phenomenal and you’ve made the car look poetic, yet powerful. Great critique!
As an engineer, I really didn't notice how many design choices have been compromised. Once you explained the rear side from your perspective, I was completely sold on all* of the design improvements you made. I love your design more - and hats off to the designer(s) and the team who got this thing from start to finish. This is my first time seeing both cars. To me the only necessary compromise would probably be more airflow for engine cooling on your design and I absolutely love their jet engine integration as a tribute to the modern age (my view). BTW, thank you for explaining the proportions on such a cool example! I will try to use some of the techniques you teach on the products I design. Cheers!
Another thing I think I would have like to see: change the carbon fibre look around the side windows for that brushed metal look, like the original. That really accentuated the lines.
