In the end, PC gaming is cheaper. We don't buy games for 60$ from gamestop, we just pay 37 on steam or just wait for a sale and get a clusterfuck of people buying the game.
terrenman11 Cheaper? Hardly. You forgot to mention with PC gaming you have to upgrade the PC every 2 years or so or your tech falls behind. You need to upgrade your RAM, your GPUs, your processors, your OS, make sure you've got decent virus protection, etc etc etc, all of which can end up costing over $2000, where as with a console you just buy the console and that's it. $60 per game is a small price to pay over having to constantly pay for PC upgrades.

Max Power You actually don't have to upgrade every 2 years to play current games, a decent build with quality parts will last somewhere in the realm of 4 to 5 years if you throw a $300 GPU upgrade in around year 4 it will last longer than the consoles projected lifespan. PC with better specs than PS4(450) + GPU upgrade(300) + 2 new games a year(60-80) for 5 years would cost $1050. PS4(400) + PS+(50 per year) + 2 new games a year(120) for 5 years would cost $1130. RAM and CPU don't need to be upgraded much in a gaming computer they both last longer than a GPU. I've had windows 7 since it came out and i have no plans of getting a new OS anytime soon. I have great virus protection and it was free(avast.) So yes a PC can be cheaper than PS4 or XBONE not to mention the graphics are better, full backwards compatibility, tons of F2P games, bundles and huge sales all the time(I've gotten 76 games on steam in the last 7 months a lot of them recent games i spent a total of 250 for them all)

The Wii U has exclusives in spades. Mario, Wonderful 101, Pikmin, Sonic Lost World, Bayonetta, Donkey Kong, Nintendoland, ZombieU, Zelda, Smash, Mario Kart....all before mid 2014. And it's the cheapest console on the market with not even a sniff of microtransactions.

You know, in the nearly 7 years since this video, Yahtzee has never lightened up or changed his opinion on the Xbone and PissPoor one bit... and he's right to have not done so, because he was completely right about them. This has been unequivocally the worst console generation since before the Great Crash (particularly when you remember that the Switch wasn't part of it, the WiiU was Nintendo's contribution to the 8th generation)- not that there weren't a large number of great games made, but apart from slightly shinier graphics it didn't bring one single thing that couldn't have been done just as well on the previous generation, while the level of open contempt companies treated their customers with and the levels of anticonsumer bullshit we were expected to put up with reached unprecedented heights and they're still showing absolutely no sign of improving at all. I'm serious about the games too, you realise that every single great game of this generation without exception could have been made on the PS3 and 360 with only a modest drop in graphical quality? Hell, The Last of Us 2 looks basically the same as The Last of Us 1 and that was a last-generation game. So ask yourself, was this entire generation even worth it? And I hope you come up with the correct answer (which is "of course it fucking wasn't") otherwise I may have to hurt you.
Why do people call PC gaming expensive? You can get a GTX660 for like 50 bucks on ebay right now. You could make that with the amount you save by buying the PC version of a game. Cheapest used PS4 on there is like $305 for comparison (including shipping).

Arnox45 Honestly with my current setup I have yet to play any modern game which broke for any reason. Just six months ago, on the other hand, the 2.50 PS4 update bricked the system. Sure older games may require some setting tweaking but at least I have backwards compatibility. Also, I brought up the GPU because it is considered by console fanboys to be the part that makes PC gaming more expensive than a car. You can easily find these kinds of prices on used CPUs and everything else is maybe a hundred bucks new.

Just because you CAN get motherboards with other components installed does not mean that everyone does buy them. I've never seen anyone compare the price of every single part of a PC against a console. Major Largo Hehe, some good points there! Except if you have half a mind, avoiding viruses isn't a problem. System requirements? Better to have the ability to upgrade your hardware to tackle slow-running games, than to be stuck with a system that cannot do so. Do NOT pretend that both the previous generation AND this new "next" generation aren't struggling with performance issues with many games. And the whole "one must upgrade the PC every year for thousands of dollars to play games"-argument is getting so ridiculously old now, for an argument that is completely wrong. My PC had three year old hardware (which wasn't top of the line back then either - google the Geforce GTX 560TI) in it up until just recently, and I played Metro Last Light, Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider just fine with settings just under maxed. Hacked servers? It's the price one must pay for having freedom like this. Hacked servers can be avoided. But it's a little harder when people start hacking Sony and Microsoft so that their services go down altogether. I'm sorry, but while all systems have their pros and cons (price, exclusives, portability, hardware, etc etc), the PC generally comes out on top when you combine it with the console. It can potentially require a little more knowledge (which you can nowadays learn by sitting your ass down and watching RU-vid tutorials for no more than an hour), but you get more in return. It costs more, yes, but it's not used for gaming alone. Yes, racing games and fighting games work better with a controller. But guess what, you can sit hunched over a desk with a mouse and keyboard, or you can hook the PC up to your TV and controller, and enjoy it just like a (better) gaming console. Back when the Xbox and PS2 were on the market, I would agree that they were more stable (generally) than the PC, that the games tended to not be as buggy and so on. But nowadays, console releases have just as many bad issues as the PC versions. The difference is that the PC-versions can usually be fixed by modding config-files while waiting for the devs to release a proper patch. With a console game, you're stuck with the problems until the developer feels benevolent enough to fix your issues. Look at Skyrim on the PS3. Those poor sods who just had to sit there with a completely unplayable game.

Shodance don't you have shops that build pc. like you take the suggested requirements of the games you want, take them to a shop, and tell them to build a pc for you that meet those. we have those here and then you just go again a few years latter and said i need more ram or something and get the upgrade. got mine as a normal pc for 200 bucks gradate it to a gaming one by putting a good video card for like 60. currently i am in need of upgrading the windows so that it has 7 instead of xp and add more ram but i am too lazy to do it currently still have hundreds of games that can running it and have not played even half of my library

I have a good idea for an online shooter that can tell a good story: All the players are on the side of the heroes, and all the bad guys are AI controlled. Narrative is told through cutscenes that play for each player individually, rather than what other MMO shooters do.

My thoughts on the whole thing, get a Wii U and then have a gaming PC. No matter what, the best party games continually come out on Nintendo products and Nintendo still has free online play and then with the more "hard core" games just put them on a PC and play them the way they are supposed to be played, except with a controller.
the concept of exclusive games (and by extension, consoles) needs to die. all it does is split up the player base into arguments over who's shitbox managed to squeeze the most sequels out of a single title. " OUR BOX IS BEST, IT HAS HALO 1-7", "NO OURS IS BEST, WE HAVE SO MANY MARIO GAMES", "NO, WE'RE THE BEST, WE HAVE UNCHARTED, AND SLY COOPER". if exclusives and consoles were gotten rid of, game designers could focus on making games better than before, they could make new physics engines, and new graphics styles, and they would be constrained by outdated technology. it would be better for consumers because A: games would work better AND faster. B:you wouldn't have to shell out 400-500 bucks every few years for the BoxStationU12345, and could just upgrade the pc piece by piece whenever you feel like it or when the parts get cheaper. and finally C: WE CAN ALL ENJOY THE GAMES THAT ARE BEING MADE, WE CAN PLAY TOGETHER, rather than signing up to play a few different exclusives that were made for that specific box. oh, and crunch on this one for a bit, buying a console is just buying a box in hopes that good games will be released in order to justify the purchase, "just bought a 400 dollar console, i hope they release some good games for it, or that's 4 hundred bucks down the drain,oh, and i can't play the previous iteration's games on the new one, so they better make some awesome games
One tiny problem. Making just 1 game for 1 system is very hard, time consuming, and money consuming. PC, Xbox 1, Xbox 360, PS3, and PS4 each have different coding systems. It's not as simple as taking the CD from the 360, popping it into the PS4 and playing on it. So while exclusives does mean less people can play it if they don't own all systems ever, it also means they can put all the time, money, and effert learning the code of the other systems, rebuilding the entire game in those new codes, working out all the bugs, and spending all kinda of money on different CDs, DvDs, Blue Ray Disks, and Internet space, and instead put it all into the actual game. Atleast, it CAN be that way, but more often than not, they take all that extra money and keep it for themselves and not put it in the game, making cheap exclusives without needing to waste extra money on ports or making it actually desent.

And not even in a Spec Ops: The Line sort of way; I think most people think they're the good guys. Granted, you can look at Gears of War for the 360 as a counterpoint; but while the Gears have done questionable things, they're basically good guys. (I forget Gears 3, so they might have done something there.) Thinking about it more, God of War; he's pretty much an antihero as well. Sony definitely seems to have more 'gray' games ...
James Skemp Yeah but see the thing is that most shooters these days develop a traditional enemy that forces players to kill without question. Look at games like Battlefield where the whole protagonist role is played by one nation with the biggest metaphorical military cock, *cough America *cough. That said I personally feel that many modern shooters follow a linear formula that has become the bread and butter for a successful shooter experience, that is, one of a game play oriented composition. I honestly think that the problem people have with developing a new shooter is that it doesn't generate as much hype as Call Of Duty or Battlefield. The last game I can think of that brought about a new formula to the modern shooter is Gears of War. That said hopefully the next generation of console, or more preferably, PC games will bring something players haven't experienced to the market.
Glenn Theunissen I actually wouldn't consider Gears in the discussion since it isn't a FPS. Haven't played CoD or Battlefield, but some good FPSs that I have played this gen are the BioShocks, Spec Ops: The Line (Zero Punctuation did a great video on it), and while I'm not done yet (by this weekend), Far Cry 3 might be one as well (depending upon how it ends). But you're right, CoD and Battlefield own the space, and based upon what I've read (again, no direct experience), they're like most sports games with their very incremental changes.
For the price of an Xbone, you can get a perfectly respectable gaming PC capable of playing basically any game you want at quite respectable settings. And if you go after the PC gaming staples like Half Life 2, Garry's Mod, and even Bioshock Infinite to a degree, you will have a very, very good, smooth experience and have a HUGE selection of a HUGE variety of games. Granted, I spent far more than 600 bucks, but I certainly don't plan on having to upgrade any year soon, but that's my choice.
I'm getting a very good gaming pc for about $530. That's just a little bit more than one of the next gen consoles and it has 3 times the graphics processing capability of the Xbox one and the PS4
Nice! Now, when I said that I payed a lot more than $600, I meant I spent just over $2,800 on mine. Granted, one of my reasons was so I could render in full HD in a shorter time, but I mostly got it for gaming purposes. Fun times.

Exactly! In this world of gaming your either a "SonyFag" (if you are an Xbox fanboy), a "Microfag" (if your a Sony fanboy), or... a PC gamer, and I just find the entire argument of which gaming platform is better to be completly pointless! I mean, I have a PC, a PS3, and a Wii and I don't argue about which console is better and call anyone who dosen't agree a...Well, you get the point. People, just play your games on your console or PC (or both), and shut up, before you start a fanboy war, because there pointless arguements that never have a winner or loser. You just have a lot of unhappy people who will never shut up about how there opinion is better and berates and insults anyone that dosen't agree.
Verdict: Gaming on any platform sucks. With there being shitty fanboys on all of them yelling at each other over videogames as the "PC Master-Race" spends +$1000 on hardware to play a fucking videogame and the consoles waiting for more good games to come out for it. JUST PLAY THE FUCKING GAME! No need to fucking scream at each other for it. At this point, gaming is just bad. And all the "OOH! THIS RUNS AT 70,000fps and has 100,000p resolution!" It's a fucking game, I really don't think it matters. It's for entertainment, not to focus all your life and money around it. Some people simply CAN'T afford a hyper-computer and Next-Gen console to play fucking videogames. And then there's the small part of the gaming community that everyone likes that respects all types of gaming systems and do not care about this ignorance that has been stirred up in the Internet. Just there discussing games and systems fairly and not bashing on everything like mindless barbarians.
Firstly, I don't think that what people argue about on the internet should influence the way you play your games. Secondly, just because you don't think that graphical quality or framerate matters doesn't means that everybody thinks that, after all games nowadays are basically sold on how pretty their pre-rendered trailers look. Thirdly, I'd actually have to agree with you about a large portion of games being incredibly stale, mostly the triple-A industry where developers choose to focus on squeezing more and more graphical fidelity and not on actually improving or innovating gameplay. While the indie industry has also suffered from it's issues (mainly the shameless copying of concepts), it has still managed to produce more innovative titles in the last few years alone that triple-A games had in the last decade.
Matt Leggett I'm sorry, but I have to ask, what is it that makes PC gamers superior to console gamers? Aside from a few graphical enhancements, what is the big fucking difference? Why does it matter what you play on? We're all gamers - that's the sole fact of it all. Why can't we just stop hating on each other and instead just have fun playing games?
