But, I’m constantly bombarded with peoples vulgar sexual or racial curiosity, purely attention seeking comments, or unearned anger. Every time I turn around there’s some idiot desperately seeking my attention. 🙏🏽What do I do or say to these thirsty human beings to make them avoid me???🙏🏽

I watched this a few months back and I do this on my own (in my head). It's a great mindfulness exercise (1) I name things as quick I can to warm up first, then I practise word association(s) to the things I see. (2)Then I use your "look at things and make jokes" game. (3) It's also good to imagine bantering strangers that are out walking around (in my head of course) what they are doing or wearing etc to sharpen my wit Thanks for your video, it is very very useful

This was a simple yet effective demonstration of how one can practice engaging the facilities which humor is produced by. Free association skills are absolutely key to being spontaneously funny, taking one element in your environment and placing it in an alternate context whose incongruity to the familiar reality of that element serves as unexpected to the listener and this often results in laughter from them. Thank you for this video.

I used to have really bad social anxiety in highschool and I was able to pull off this really perfect deadpan where I could get an entire group to laugh really hard at something because of how I was able to keep composure in a joke, but ever since I went to college and got a job in a really linear thinking field and improved on of a lot of my anxiety issues, I became totally unable to pull off my best humor anymore because I lost the ability to use silence and timing in my jokes. I no longer hold the intense "pressure in silence" I used to create by using silence and super in tune feeling of social pressure I had, which I lost since I'm not anxious 24/7 and practicing holding composure. When you aren't anxious you really start to lose that edge of seriousness that comes with humor tbh. I think the reason why many comics have anxiety is because of a heightened 'understanding' of social pressures that allows people to really nail timing. That's why typical 'bros' and otherwise relaxed people don't have a natural comedic timing. They aren't typically in uncomfortable situations and therefore they never really practice suppressing it like people with anxiety. Being able to sit right on the edge of composure is what makes people feel tension and really find a joke funny. Basically, I think having some social anxiety can be a good thing, because it lets you practice composure much more effectively and really understand it.
@SocialShortcuts

Interesting thing is, most of the jokes sucked. But so far at 4:39 "draining" got me to blow my air out and Ray got me to laugh. So the trick is not to expect every joke to land, but stop censoring yourself and keep tryig until u get better and better at making good ones. One question though, is it more effective to say em out loud?
@SocialShortcuts
@SocialShortcuts 3 года назад
"Stop censoring yourself and keep trying until you get better" - Yes, but also generally socialising favours risk takers for many reasons, one example of which is that you rarely lose much from a risk that goes wrong and usually gain a lot from one that pays off. Also with humour especially it's more about expanding when you find something that works, so for example if I were talking to you in real life I would expand on the "draining" joke after seeing you liked it. These were made up on the spot in quick succession under pressure so I would expect most of them to suck in the opinion of lots of people. "Is it more effective to say them out loud?" - I don't think it makes much difference if we are talking about using this exercise as practice. If you can do it with a partner and say them out loud so you receive feedback from another person that will be better though. Thanks for commenting.

Any techniques how do you do humour so effortlessly? for me I don't want it to look like I'm trying to be funny and I dont want my humour to come of as cringe. I'm good at making jokes but I'm not always confident with them.

One of the most important things in social skills of all (IMO the 3rd most important thing) is to follow the rule “if not sure take the risk” for everything but especially for humour. There are a bunch of benefits to this following this rule but the most important ones are that A-the risky option is usually the better one (a bit to long to explain exactly why) B-you learn way way faster. It’s worth coming off as cringe etc a bunch of times for the progress you make which will = being more funny & less cringe in the future. I think I have a video about this on this channel. Seems to me like by far your best level up for humour right now is follow that rule and care less about how you come across.

Onslaught of dad jokes

Pretty much, other types of jokes mostly involve more knowledge and/or engagement of the thing you’re trying to make a joke about where as this had to be done from stuff I can see quickly. Possibly the most impressive part of the video apart from the technological marvel of us even being able to make videos in the first place is that I’m not even a dad but still somehow managed. I guess one explanation could be that I have a kid somewhere in the world from travelling etc

Also: it is normal, in this exercise and other exercises of associations with things, to speak some things that not have sense? I should just let me speak non sense in this exercise?
