Thank you so much for your videos. I have been battling stage 3 rectal cancer for 2 years, have had high dose radiation, high dose chemo, & 4 surgeries. In between treatments, i also fractured my hip & broke my femur 9 months ago. Unfortunately , osteoporosis side effect of chemo. But now, I am finally at the finish line! 🎉I had the last surgery 4 weeks ago & and the cancer is now gone! Woo hoo! I am walking & lifting light weights trying to get my strength back. I know it Will take a little time & your exercise videos will definitely help! Thank you so much for doing these videos! It's just what I've been looking for! So appreciate you!

This video is hugely appreciated...not many people talk about exercises during or after treatment of cancer.. whether they are Dr's or other hospital staff... I just finished with my breast cancer treatment, which was grade 01, stage 01 and underwent lumpectomy and radiation. 2 lymph nodes were removed as well...NO CHEMO...and am on hormonal therapy....except the 3 days that I was in the hosp for the surgery, i have maintained my exercise regimen...5 kms of brisk walking, usually 4 or 5 days a week, resistance exercises and free weights 3 times a week...I combine it with Pranayama ( Breathing exercises)...it was amazing how quickly I recovered from the surgery. 20 sessions of Radiation were a breeze too...I just have darkened skin after the Radiation, with no skin peeling at all...thank you for this video as my friends/family thought I was crazy to be working out when I should've been resting.. Exercising gave me a lot of confidence and also kept me from sliding into self pity and depression.

I workout at the gym 4-5 days a week and also do cardio. I am starting radiation 5 days a week for 5 weeks plus 1 day of chemo per week at the end of May. I am concerned that I will be too fatigued to continue working out. Did you find you were less tired because you worked out?

Hello! Great introduction to exercise for people impacted by cancer! As a cancer exercise professional as well- I would highly encourage you to consider adding the new guidelines from ASCO here and the updated bone Mets recs! Planned exercise is including more vigorous or even HIIT have been proven to be very beneficial and sometimes even over moderate intensity. I often remind people they may not feel like it, but just a few minutes at a time is a great prescription!

Excellent advice . Different cancers and treatments cause their individual side effects. Also the advice about speaking to others. There are groups you can join, and you may be able to help others by talking with them too. Macmillan for Cancer have been so helpful to me with advice and support.

I have stage 4 endometrial cancer, just done my 4th round of chemo. During the first two rounds I managed to do a little exercise to 80s music incorporating arm lifts, walking on the spot. During the second round I tried 0.5kg light weight as I am getting muscle atrophy from the chemo. My oncologist told me to stop doing the weights it is too much on a 3 week regime, I have to inject for 7 days each month after chemo to bring my RBC back up. When I stopped the weights and gentle exercise I actually felt more fatigue and pain. Now I am 5 days after my 4th round this morning I did some bed leg lifts and arms and a 2 minute light weights. I will be 67 next month, and have always tried to eat a reasonably healthy diet, and until the pandemic was walking twice a week. I was told to stay in because even before the cancer I have several autoimmune conditions. If you could cover this sort of scenario, for me and others with similar problems that would be very helpful. Thank you.

I have a gentle workout that might help you coming out next Monday (part seated, part standing). There is also a chair based workout on my channel that might be worth a look and other lower level exercise programmes (some for 10 minutes) see here: ru-vid.com/group/PLf9i8qFtMBBK1VBEA-IlSw7VrXxrvxHUF I hope you can find something that helps though and I wish you all the best with your treatment and recovery.

I wish I never had Cancer or never had to hear the word or be even exposed to it. Because I use to be a lot healthier until I had thyroid problems. Especially after radio active iodine was done to my thyroid. That's when it started with me being prone to having Cancer. I know I can't turn back the clock. As to when I had that done but it didn't only do harm to my thyroid but also caused me to have new systems. One of the new systems was having liver problems high LDL cholesterol. Then having a cancer recurrance or having any Cancer at all. Because before this I wasn't diagnosed with any kind of Cancer. Then I have it running in my family. Then the stuff they put in the food is what rasises a persons Cancer risk. Then I'm trying to get my weight back down. I'm way too heavy for my small bone frame. Then I'm a older women now is what makes it more difficult.

Hello I was a professional bodybuilder and I used to lift heavy weights. I was diagnosed with breast cancer and 4 months ago I had surgery to remove the breast mass and 4 of my armpit lymph nodes. I did 12 sessions of chemotherapy and it was over today. The doctor said that in 21 days I have to have radiation. I will start treatment for 23 days and then hormone therapy. Can I start heavy exercise and lift weights like before? The oncologist said that you can because the chemotherapy is over, but the surgeon said that you should not lift heavy weights!!! The sports physiologist also said that exercise during chemotherapy or drug therapy is stimulating!!!! What do you think? Thank you for your help.
@ExerciseForHealth
@ExerciseForHealth 9 месяцев назад
It's not so much the lifting of heavy weights that would be an issue, but the demand you place on the lymphatic system from excessive exercise of a muscle that can potentially lead to lymphedema. However, I am not doctor and don't know your individual circumstances, so it's always best to take the advice of the health professional that know you.

Hi thats the same question I had, not a body builder, but I do have weights and a exercise bike. 9 lymph nodes removed, right side mastectomy. Maybe you can answer this. If I feel ok during chemo, would it be a good idea to at least walk around with my IV? My first time, they said I need a driver, Drugs are paclaxatil and hepacin? I'm sure I didn't spell that right. Whatever I'm getting, should I attempt to move around to keep my circulation going? Lots of water, of course. What about that night? Will I be trashed for 2 days?
@wandah9468
@wandah9468 8 месяцев назад
I'm a month post op, at the moment I'm about 80% normal strength, just a little soreness and those tight tugging sensations that will eventually disappear. Assuming I wasn't getting chemo next, I might be 100% in another 2 or 3 months. Want to get everything healed up before I do any heavy work around the yard. But now chemo, and wondering how I will do. I'm 67.
@paja7647
@paja7647 7 месяцев назад
@@wandah9468My experience, the effects of chemo can be cumulative, so yes you may have your days where you are trashed and just need to rest, eat light meals and hydrate. Then you can resume activities at a comfortable level - easy exercise based on how you feel, but something is better than nothing, just listen to your body. It’s not often mentioned, but if you swim or do yoga before cancer, don’t give them up, but try to do them when you can. Even at a light level, they’re still good for maintaining movement flexibility and balance. I’m near your age, but almost six months post chemo and most of my energy is back, including the ability to clean up my garden for the winter and looking forward to spring!
