What I believe most hollywood muscleguys do, is be on gear and work out for about 90 minutes tops per day like most bodybuilders. But they can't say they're on gear, so they have to pretend to be on some impossible to maintain 6 hour/day superman regime doing these outlandish excersizes. Oh, and eat chicken and broccoli of course 😂

That could be true. I always thought (when I started thinking about it) that they do those weird exercises because it helps you move in weird positions, and primes your entire system for stunts, all-around movement, feeling good as you move throughout the day etc. when I did a couple trx push up and core exercise Mark Wahlberg’s trainer recommends, my body started feeling great. Now, though, I feel good just lifting (without ego lifting) and really paying attention to my body, and stretching and doing mobility stuff. But like I said, you might be right. Seems possible. One more thing! ☝️ I will say, they definitely look more jacked on camera. Like they’ll pump up before certain scenes and dehydrate themselves and peak for a certain shooting day. So they are probably not as jacked as we think, depending on the actor and the camera angles they used, etc.

I feel like a lot of the "random" portions of the workout are likely directly correlated to scenes that are shot on the movies (why is he jumping up like that? there's a scene where he gets knocked down and has to jump up like that) so its easier to drill this during workout routines, so when they shoot the scene, and he has to do it 50 times in a row, it doesn't absolutely kill him. Kinda like Natalie Portman doing hardcore ballet training for several months before shooting Black Swan
@Hunter-op3dx
@Hunter-op3dx Месяц назад
I believe the "random dance moves" train more mobility and cardio.
@hoykfnvnnesnxnnensncjforkx1616
@hoykfnvnnesnxnnensncjforkx1616 19 дней назад
But they don't really do those things. Natalie didn't even dance at all, she moved her arms up and down at the most. They have stunt doubles and they rarely even jump up from the ground themselves or even run on camera. There's stunt doubles even doing scenes of walking in heels in some shows/movies. It's crazy
@mother7219
@mother7219 16 дней назад
@hoykfnvnnesnxnnensncjforkx1616 The Marvel actors are encouraged to do stunts that aren't intense or dangerous, it's why Idris Elba has sworn off doing more Marvel films once his contract was up (they made him do a lot of wire work). I am sure that when it comes to simple scenes of Thor hopping up from the ground, it is Hemsworth and not a double.

@@endre4342 It's been great! The app automatically adjusts the have new target weights and target reps. It also adds/removes sets based on how toasted I said my muscle group was for the day. I truly have nothing but praise to give for this app. I've never been good at making my own lifting plans and don't really like finding plans online as it was hard for me to find alternatives to the lifts that I can't do in my gym. This app gets rid of all of that effort and lets me just focus on getting to the gym, lifting the weight, and making progress. If you have $35/month to spare, it's a no brainer.

Oh yeah the warmup hump for running got to be one of the most noticeable. Not just for muscles, joints, and nervous system, but it also brings into phase things like the vestibular and respiratory systems. My rheumatologist, pain management doctor and my back surgeon have all told me to keep up my workouts with certain restrictions. I can only run on a treadmill but my doctors have told me to slowly warm up. The first 10-20 minutes are slow rolling. Once I’m warmed up I’m able to jog for about a hour and a half. Then I spend about 15 minutes walking on a decent incline. I have been weight training using exercises that my doctors have told me are ok. My pain level is so much better since I started getting back into my consistent workouts.

switching your core on i guess means deliberately putting tension on there as in using your muscles to tighten the core area "sucking in" your belly and such. Activating your core delibertely sually does hlep improve your form a bit, in special if your core isnt too strong to begin with and you often fall into bad posture. So it does help to have your back straight and do the exercise properly without being bent over.

As concerns maintenance...I've been a good runner for the past 27 years because of how hard I ran from 1996 to 2001. So in other words, well said Dr. Mike.

Great, funny video. The knowledge about warming up made me feel a lot better about warm ups feeling tougher than I thought they should.

Hey Dr. Mike, I’ve searched everywhere but I’ve noticed in all your years on RU-vid you haven’t made a video about calorie cycling, if it’s a myth or if it has benefits. Could you do one next?

9:36 Thanks for the explanation, I was wondering why that was the case with my long bike rides in particular. 20km in, I feel no exhaustion at all. 700m in, I am beat. Figured it was something to do with warmup, but never got into the science, very cool Dr. Mike, mwah mwah smoochie smooch

Funnily enough during Covid I used his app and it did benefit me a lot. I went from 12 stone to nearly 10 (I did run a lot during that time). I only stopped using the app because the workouts were really weird to do in public. Like one of the workouts is to just shadow box? It was so weird dude.

The warmup part is very true - both in endurance and resistance training exercises. Usually when I do my runs first 5-6 mins are pretty sluggish and I feel as if my legs are "sticking". Very similar with the gym - usually the first set of a given exercise sucks, the second peaks out lol, the following ones are pretty dependent on fatigue level.

For anyone interested, the full warm-up is 10 x 20 sec on/10 off bear crawl & 10 x 20/10 bodyweight squats: total 10 min. The missing exercises are (#4) standing triceps extension and (#5) reverse lunge + curl (?). The core finishers are Plank Punch Out, Plank Pulses & Plank Pikes, each for 8 reps. 3 rounds of the whole circuit, with no additional rest between rounds. Personally, I no longer have the stamina for such an intensive w/up, so I'd probably cut that by 60% for the first few workouts. I'd cut the curl from the reverse lunge: it's a distraction from the lunge, and we've already hit the biceps in exercise #2. And I'd cut the upright row in #8, sub in a bent-over row to hit the back, and replace the plank stuff with some dynamic core work like Mike suggests, or maybe some ab wheel.

Dr. Mike I would love it if you did a video discussing blood flow restricted training. I remember it getting a lot of hype back in the early 2000s and would love to see you discuss whether or not it has any utility and how best to incorporate it into a routine. Thanks so much in advance and keep making great content!
