Dr. Mike. Was it you that mentioned that on gear sloppy workouts still yield results? I know someone mentioned it. After having seen these videos from you...I believe you have pointed out the great obvious x on the "How actors get into shape" map. I mean it's no secret but when not a single actor actually does any exercises correct.... 🙃

Definitely sounds like me. I will say, most actors probably don't use gear. And nor do they look super impressive in person even in their best shapes. Just 12 weeks of good diet and hard (meh quality) training can do a lot for most people! - Dr. Mike @@peartree8338

A point you mentioned that really rang true for me was the one about getting back in shape after having already been fit previously. I’m currently 14 weeks back into strength building after a 4-year hiatus from the gym. I was an aspiring powerlifter with a training total of about 1400 lbs. Life happened and I fell into a horrible depression. I was so scared of returning to the gym and having to start from square one to regain all the strength that had previously taken me YEARS to attain. After getting some encouragement from my 16yo son who has gotten into fitness himself, I brushed off the cobwebs and got right back into lifting. I’m not yet where I once was, but my strength as well as my muscles have been returning remarkably fast, and I feel as good as ever! Dr. Israetel might I suggest doing a video on the topic of returning to strength training/bodybuilding after a period of inactivity? I feel like it might encourage others who find themselves in a similar situation that I was in. Anyway, I love your channel. I appreciate your academic approach to the subject, as well as your humor. I’ve learned a great deal from you since I started watching.

I haven’t watched Dr. Mike’s video yet, but you can look at muscle cell nucleation if you’re interested in the why based on biology. Long and short is that muscle cells add nuclei and mitochondria the more they are worked (efficiency because the cells themselves are larger). If you stop working the muscle, the nuclei and mitochondria stay even if the cell shrinks. I’m guessing it’s adaptive because if they had to work that hard once, they might need to again at some point in the future. Once the muscle is worked again after detrain, those extra nuclei and mitochondria “remember” and the cell is already primed, so 💥.

I started watching this channel like 3-4 months ago and absolutely binged all of it. I workout at home and doing a full ROM and slow eccentric not only allowed me to not have to warm up for 15 minutes before a workout but I don't have to do stretching after (also I can use way less weight so I save money on plates). Joint pains - gone, better pumps and better results.

I'm glad to hear that one-arm dumbbell rows are good, since I discovered that for my self. you can use a _lot_ of weight and they do a fantastic job of targeting your lats. they also feel a lot more stable and flexible than two-arm barbell rows (which feel like they make your shoulders twist in weird ways) and there's no way I could do two-arm rows with twice the weight of the one-arm row. I also love dumbbell butterflies since it's otherwise pretty difficult to target your pecs (you'd need a butterfly machine or something which you can't really have at home).

Duffy getting all the props! Good stuff. None of that silly weird shit, trainers making up movements to try to be original. 1 mil is approaching for ya! Keep up the good work. I've been sending people to your channel. 👍

A comment on the bench press. It’s never worked for me. I never feel like my pec has been worked afterward. I replaced it with DB Press instead and took your advice with pausing at the bottom and have had explosive chest growth and it feels worked everytime. Especially cause of the pause to get that nice stretch.
@kurtwpg
@kurtwpg 8 месяцев назад
I get great stimulation from bench so I don't need to do this, but: Have you considered 2-3 sets of flys before bench press to "pre-exhaust"? Could just be your pecs are too strong and don't get stimulated at a weight that makes your triceps or delts fail.

'Eating junk is pleasant and we have to recognize that fact.' Everytime someone's answer to junk is something like 'It doesn't even taste good really' you have to immediately check out of that person. It's chemically perfected to be everything your tongue wants, don't pretend it doesn't taste good.

Glad to see someone with your knowledge is speaking up for flat bench - been irked by the slander on that move that seems to be really prevalent. Flat Bench, DB Incline, and Dips/Flyes are a powerful combo

I could be wrong, but I think the pull ups and push ups shown in the videos were from when Chris was completing The Murph challenge, where you have to complete like 100 of each in a day or something, and not necessarily during his "training". Again, I could be mistaken, but it might give some context to the range of motion on them.

I was 336lbs at my biggest, now I'm 182lbs, and am trying to build some bulk. That technique to strengthen the back and shoulders, the dumbbell raise bow? Is gonna help me loads. My back is probably the weakest part of me, and gives me issues across a range of activities. Can't wait to see some progress. Thanks Mike!!!!

I needed to hear that about it being easier to get back to recently fit shape. I've been going through it lately and after losing 70lbs and working out for 2 years, I've recently found it hard to maintain it and have slacked off for a few months. I'm really feeling it. Missing the energy. Gotta get back to it.

Dr Mike, above all else physical fitness is the most important thing that's hammered into you in the military. Athletic physical fitness, it's the only thing you might end up doing 2-3 hours every day M-F, and if you suck they will make you do it Saturday as well. I was 5'8 195 and could do 104 pushups in 2 min, run a 13 min 2 mile, and 70 sit ups in 2 min, I scored normally 285 or higher out of 300 possible points. (sit ups always kicked my butt). 2nd most important thing that rivaled fitness was ... How good your boots and clothes looked. Yes, that is what will get you in trouble far more often than your fitness, well that and people who are drunk all the time.
