Shelvington is a masterpiece, the running on Farbine Road is totally convincing, and Moors View made me shiver! I saw Shelvington many years ago, before it had progressed as far as it now, and if what one of the operators told me is correct, one of the builders isn't even interested in model railways. Whatever the truth, it really illustrates the massive difference that P4 standards make to realism.

@@leepolson401 In my opinion Shelvington is one the best looking layouts on the circuit. What makes it so is the high quality of modelling, the consistent colour palette matching the period and the weathering.

We both really enoyed this show (despite the cow poo smell lol) and this vid is excellent in terms of editing and videography. In case anyone was wondering know we don't care that Moors View won both the awards, we voted for it to! I don't nomrally like snowy layouts but this was a masterprice. It somehow had an entirely destaurated colour pallete and totally deserved it's award, never seen anything quite like it. Now I have to say nice things to anyone who said nice things lol.

I like how the speed of the trains is closely controlled. The trains start out slow then pick up speed when taking off and when you come into the station they gradually slow down and stop. Thank you for the detail. You don’t see this on every train layout. Also, it seems that weathering of buildings and equipment is not a priority in Europe. It seems to be more common here in the states.

Love Dawlish Warren! I grew up in Dawlish and as a child in the seventies I used to love to go to the wonderful model railway layout in the station at the Warren, they had a good shop there as well. It was run by two brothers who lived in one of the Bungalows just before you got into Cockwood, I wonder what happened to them? I know the model railway is no longer there. I moved to Canada in 1999 but since 2016 live in Austria. I remember also when I was a kid there were two great places to buy model railway stuff. Exeter Pram and Toy and a wonderful little shop just across the iron bridge.

I am of the 2 that own, operate and built Shelvington (I am the "paint" guy) so thanks very much. That is a Hastings, and Eastleigh and the area is exactly where they used to run. It isn't made by anyone, we took a Bachmann EPB but ripped it apart, the only thing left is the underframe and motor, the sides are brass etch as they were totally flat on that and the whole thing is narrower than other DMUs as it wouldn;t fit in a certain tunnel in hastings (hence the name).

What are the multiple units in the Shelvington set? There's one at 1:02 and a different model at 1:22

Sadly I'm not up to scratch on my southern units, though I believe the four car unit to be a 4-COR.

I am of the 2 that own, operate and built Shelvington (I am the "paint" guy) 1:02 is indeed a 4 COR, a build by us, 1:22 is a Bachmann 2 EPB.

- - - NOTICE - - - The comments, below, are about the first segment(s) as there are muktiple layouts shown. - - - - - - I am notably struck with the exceptional detail of track realism. Add in crazy cool landscape. Buildings and structures are very, very good. I ache to think, "could I do this?" Back when, back when steam was king, back when wood was used to heat the water there was endless supply. Trains ran NEXT TO STREAMS where both water and trees were plentiful. Resupply needed? Head down to the river. Human labor was very necessary. Am I to assume that the 'running' of operations is controlled by computers and software?

I am of the 2 that own, operate and built Shelvington (I am the "paint" guy), it is the is the 1st to feature in the vid so assume you are tlaking about us? Thanks very much for the comment. It is indeed computer controlled, while an operator can step in at any moment it is capable of being entirely automated through the software.

@SDJR7F88

The bike works on a magnetic road system. The cyclists legs are attached to a clear plastic wheel, which makes it look like they are peddling. The system is made by a company called magnorail

A good selection of Locos & Rolling stock as per usual - I just hope that the layout with the snow scenes manage to clear the snow of the track - talking of which @ 22: 35 here comes a Loco snow plough now!!! Oh & @ 25:35 - that grey Loco is from Norway b/c I have been to Norway myself with my Mum quite a few yrs ago & they always seem to have a large Photo on both sides of the Loco, see here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bw08gXJGxP0.html and also here :- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h1YDtkPMbZk.html Thank you 🙂🚂🚂🚂

Some outstanding work on here - well done to the hard working dedicated modelers. There are a few points I'd like to make though . . . okay - where's the steam? I thought there was a way of making synthetic steam and smoke effect from the funnels? Coaches without passengers and locomotives without crews do look odd. This does not however, detract from an impressive array of dioramas in a well made film. Thank you.

A reflection of the 1970's and 1980's BR era. The BR era was better thsn the privatised rail system of today. Bring back British Rsil. Though don't bring back the mark 1 trains of that era obviously.

Shelvington is bloody good, but destination blinds would NEVER look lit in daylight and almost didn’t show up in the dark!!
@leepolson401

I am of the 2 that own, operate and built Shelvington (I am the "paint" guy). You are right but there is a reason (technical) why they are, I can't for the life of me remember (paint guy lol). Was it a case of they were never lit in the daytime or you just couldn't see them? If you reply I will ask the tech guy why they are. Thanks anyway!
@highdownmartin

@@leepolson401 drove slam doors for twenty years and the route box with the blinds in had two bulbs in it. They were 120v three pin bayonet ( so no one would nickem and blow them up at home). They were about 40 w and there was usually a spare chucked in there but sometimes no spare and one bulb was dead. So it really was a pretty dim glow. Before headlights on a Brighton fast the head code was 4. So that was your illumination, doing 90 through unlit countryside! Sweet FA. The bulbs were on all the time the unit was cut on and in use. IN daylight the blind was to all intents and purposes, unlit.
@leepolson401
@leepolson401 Год назад
@@highdownmartin lol no wonder you caouldn't seem them then if it was a 40w bulb. Problem with models is the lights are all LED which are a fixed brightness, though you can knock it down a bit with a resistor. If I remember right you can only go down so far in brightness or the whole circuit will be affected. I just can't remember what the answer was, but I distincly rmember someone at a show who was tlaking about the headcode lights and Matt knew something was up but there was mention of a compromise. I will ask him when I see him.

@@leepolson401 glass paint, or toffee papers. A mechanical solution to dimmer lights, under running a led is good, should last forever, but a filter will tone it down to a scale 40 w.

You don't have whites on the rear of a train,you have reds at the back, whites at front denote ecs. Beats me why somebody wold go to the trouble of building an entire transport system but leave it devoid of people, the whole reason it exists for surely? Still major lacking of passengers in coaches and drivers in cabs.

Think you might be mistaking the slam-door MK3 HST stock, most of these units where retired before or during the early 2000s. The latter is certainly true though... 😅
