Nice to see someone with a new bike. Not necessarily brand new, but new to the individual. Learning about a newly purchased bike is always a fun experience to find the little quirks about it and know how it handles for the rider.

I love it mate. I don't think you have owned a BMW boxer before have you? There is something very special about them for sure. They have a very strong character, but they do need constant tinkering and its a sort of bike that "never runs quite right" if you see what I mean.
@RRRRefuelRideRace

@@exeterrider I rode a lot of them, but never owned one. :) I see, I get it. I have a very experienced friend and he is a BMW pro. He used to work for BMWs in the late 50s and 60s. He owns 5 boxers and also other BMWs. :) He is Franc Pušnik and I filmed his museum. He told me a lot about BMWs and I am interested a lot into BMWs, just like you. What about the reserve light? How much you can cover when it comes on? :)

@@exeterrider With your bike it would be good to know if the driveshaft splines have been properly lubricated as poor lubrication risks the driveshaft splines eventually getting stripped .My bike is the last of the air/oil cooled R's . They are great bikes for sure .

I am 99percent sure it won't have been done. Put it this way, I have a rusty oil filter so the odds of the drive shaft being done is zero. It's a big job to do aswell of course 👍

Very excited about hearing more about your experience with the BMW. Every once in awhile one pops up (old and new) for sale around here and last week a 2014 BMW G 650 appeared on FB Marketplace that was fairly priced but still outside my "first bike" budget. I kept checking the listing everyday, and when the Seller dropped the price I was third in line to check it out but got beat out. I'm told BMWs are dependable bikes provided you keep up with the maintenance as with any bike. Enjoy your new ride!

Also got a 2nd bike next to my nc750xd, last september. Wanted something to work on with good part availability, very characterfull, just for an occasional 30 mile put around the neighbourhood after work on a summer evening. Did not care about handling or comfort as I have the NC for that. Got a 1981 Harley Davidson Sturgis... spent the whole winter working on it in the garage, as intended !

@@exeterrider and maybe interesting to know, as you mention cost of running 2 bikes... I live in Switzerland, where they have what loosely translates to 'swapable license plate'. You can have two bikes on a single license plate, you pay road tax and insurance only once. But since you only have one plate you can only go and ride one bike at a time. They sell quick disconnect plate holders to be able to quickly swap the plate between bikes without using tools. Sometimes you see people riding without plate and then you just know they didnt pay attention and the plate is still at home on the other bike...

I was about to say, you listed a lighter, easier bike to run to the shop on etc, then you rock up on a big bmw!!! Haha, well i must say i do like the older BMW's. I've always liked the R850R BMW, lighter than the 1100, lots of good old fashioned character, reliable, just a nice and interesting bike to own. Tbh, i do think you will end up with a small bike sometime eventually, but at the moment they are far too expensive secondhand so i think you've done the right thing by getting a bigger engined older bike. So congrats on a lovely new purchase, definitely looking forward to seeing more videos with it. Nice one E.R!!!!

Ooh nah then, that's gorgeous! I knew it was an older boxer as soon as you thumbed the starter. Then as it came into view I thought "that's not a... It blooming well is!". I've considered an R850R a couple of times recently too. They're just different enough to be desirable and usually loved by owners who tend to keep them a long time. Pre ABS keeps them simple. Lack of fairing and gentle character means it's a bike you're likely to just want to bimble on. And this is the best time of the year for just that. Ride quality is supposed to be excellent and if anything like my R1150RT is like a magic carpet. Well done Sir! Your only problem now is that inevitably you'll favour one of your bikes over the other as the "go to" and I suspect the Honda might just be left at home quite a bit. Hopefully you managed to get it on a classic policy?

Yup, different technology, just rely on the torque and your a winner - my 1200C would beat any bike to 30 in any gear, after that 100 no stress all day!!! ( depending where you live!)

Easy to get out the garage and nip down to the shops? That NIU NGT you reviewed was perfect for that surely? Zero VED also.
@exeterrider
@exeterrider 3 года назад
Yes I agree, The NIU would be perfect but not so nice to look at really. I'd loose my right arm for a Zero!! Although wouldn't be able to ride it then granted.

Will you be trying new nc750 dct? I had 17 africa and the dct could be a bit rough at times? I know its been refined, but it changing in bends I did.nt like. But I quite fancy the new 750.

Is it really lighter than the N.C? You know what B.M.W. stands for? Bring My Wallet.
@exeterrider
@exeterrider 3 года назад
Ha yes Mike, parts direct from BMW are not cheap, but many other places sell aftermarket for older BMWs like mine... Its about the same as the NC in weight, my point was I was looking for a lighter bike but ironicly didn't get one in the end. I love the bike though - it's a lovely ride.
