EXHAUSTED Raccoon Rescued From MIDDLE Of A Bay | The Dodo 

Little guy looked terrified and tired. It’s a miracle he was saved

REAL men care for animals. Hats off to this guy. Respect.

I ran an animal rescue for 20 years, including many raccoons. When this raccoon licked its lips, that's usually a sign of thirst. If this is salt water, it had no water for hours. So after ensuring no injury needs immediate care, the 2nd step when rescuing an animal is to offer it drinking water. Other steps may be a covering if that water temp is much lower than air temp, and offering food. Offer isn't to force it, just set the water and food a short distance away and let it decide whether to go over to them. Same with a covering - put it a short distance away to let it decide whether it wants it. Minimize handling and even getting too close unless it clearly is seeking contact. Last step if it seems to be recovering ok is just what they plan - find land and release. The best strategy is to look in both the direction it was swimming and the direction it's coming from for clues on the best spot to offload it. That's a toughie if it's disoriented, but usually the nearest land is the best release point. Once it recovers its strength, if will find its way to wherever it needs/wants to be - raccoons are natural explorers with good pathfinding skills. In any case, great job guys, for saving this weakening raccoon who wouldn't have been able to survive much longer! Many thanks and blessings...

Wonderful that they rescued him. Wish they’d given him a little food and water, as he’s going to need strength when he gets dropped off in what’ll probably be a totally unfamiliar place.

(I raised a newborn raccoon, rescued from a fallen tree a long time ago, and I kept her as a pet, because she was terrified of going outside (the tree falling had, probably, traumatized her). I loved her like a daughter. She was so smart, and so sweet. When I see raccoons in danger, like this, my heart breaks for them, so I am so happy that you were there, and that you were kind enough to help this poor little guy, or gal, out of the water and back to dry land. Knowing how smart raccoons are, and how good their memories are, that little raccoon will never forget your kindness on that day.

Someone mentions "Dodo" as a RU-vid channel I immediately start crying, because I know it's going to be a touching, upliifting video with a great outcome. Dodo is the antidote to depression.

It does my aging heart great good to see acts of kindness like this.

I would have thrown a soft DRY towel or something down and rummaged around for crackers, cookies, fruit or anything anyone had for themselves to give the little guy. It really is impressive that animals in trouble can so readily detect when humans (those scary, strange, unpredictable creatures) are their best hope. Raccoons, pelicans, ravens, whales, many others see the chance to let humans help and and rather calmly go with the flow. Any other time, no way they would allow such proximity.

Life is unpredictable. I try to be the man that my parents would be proud of every day. Do the right thing no matter if no one is watching.

The look of fear, hope, and even love on its face. What these guys did is just short of miraculous. The miracle is the little one survived that long. And more then likely it was shellfish diving and a rip current caught him. Took him right out.

He said the “weirdest thing” but I’d say the the BEST thing that you’d find in the middle of the bay is this boat and it’s crew!!!

My brother was found in the bay after jumping off a boat that a girl told him to sleep on that ended up going out in the water, fortunately he was saved like this guy by someone

he didnt give up. even when exhausted. he didnt give up. an true example of something that fight for their lifes. and probably for their dreams

What a great guy , the world needs more like him.

I've been around racoons a lot. Cute as they are, when they have contact with humans- especially in situations where they can't run away- they are usually very grumpy and will growl and swipe at you and try to bite (because they are scared-I'm not blaming them). Im say that because it shows how awesome this video is. This racoon clearly understood that the people weren't going to hurt him and wanted to help, so he shows no aggression or fear of any kind. Its so cute to see him just kind of wonder around like a pet. And the narrator was great: "Just kick back and relax little guy and we'll give you a ride home". Racoon seemed to understand completely. ha
