Definitely better than the powerA one for several reasons. The powerA uses batteries, has no rumble, and the sticks can get drift similar to the joycons. My controller's sticks got drift so i got the exlene one, and its much much better. and i assume since this video they made a Bluetooth version because thats what i got, its pretty good. Idk if id have preferred the dongle or not, but im glad its Bluetooth anyway.
hey, does it feel like cheap plastic like the Power A one? One of the main reasons I'm going to refund my Power A one is because it feels like a toy, the analog triggers make awful noises, AAs needed and the overall build quality is crap. $50 for this is a scam. Is the Exlene better than this? Build quality wise? Like for example the Pro Controller feels like a controller, it doesn't feel like a toy, it isn't too light.
@@asie it is a little better build quality wise, but honestly now I recommend the duelist from retro fighters, its similar, but has better ergonomics, and is diffenitely better build quality wise. The triggers arent trying to be analogue so you wont get those werird noises. Plus you have a deticated smash attack button. oh and it wakes the switch. But either option is better than the power A.
Just something to point out for your Smash gameplay. I am aware it is a review, but here some advice for Smash. Instead of rolling a lot like in Smash 4, try dash dancing. It helps me a lot personally. I’d recommend watching JoeK, he has a lot of good advice and whatnot. Give it a try next time!
The trigger distance is actually a good thing, because the triggers are not actually analog, they're digital. This is the case with the PowerA controller as well, but the PowerA has travel anyway, so you have to press it for longer to get the digital input you want. The actual gamecube controller has analog input on the triggers, so games can tell when you're only pushing them a little bit or a lot, which is why PowerA decided to mimic that. It's just not good when you want to be able to shield in smash or whatever instantly.
@@ReverendKnots of course they are not modding. Exlene engineer did their own design in 2018, just the controller is released later than powerA because of different schedual.
@@tinghuang2356 that is not what i said Ting. Aren't you the Exelene guy? I was saying that people are modifying their PowerA controllers to have a short trigger press like Exelene has already. Exelene should not make the triggers have a long press like PowerA and Gamecube has since the Switch has digital triggers and not analog.
I got one, and they must have changed recently how it communicates with the Switch, because mine didn't come with the little USB dongle, instead all I had to do was turn it on while connected to the Switch with the USB-C cord once, and then when I disconnected that, I stayed connected via bluetooth. Can turn it on whenever now without having to reconnect with the Switch as well if anyone was concerned about that. And yeah, in my opinion this is the best Gamecube-styled controller available for the Switch, feels great, has rumble, rechargable built in battery, has the extra buttons a traditional Gamecube controller doesn't have, and optional turbo as a bonus. Of course the triggers aren't analogue, but that is to be expected given that they're made for the Switch, a system that doesn't have anlaogue triggers on any of its official controllers as it is, and makes no use of the function when real Gamecube controllers are connected (with exception apparently to the game Trials).
Very interesting controller! The dongle solution seems quite good, rumble is very important to me, I prefer strong rumble, if HD or not. Motion controls also important for some games. No NFC is ok, since you will have your Joycons for that in case you really need it. How is the battery life? Maybe the D-Pad could be bigger but other than that looks great!
Hello! Its a year later now and i hope you doing great. I have some questions for you if its alright Did you get it? If yes did everything worked or is working fine? Are there any problems or something?
@@xrets Hello, Yes I bought 2 of them.. about 2 years ago the 1st one I got worked fine.. but ended up with a little...hmmmm.. issue. It wasn't bad, persay but the analogs would overtime start to be OVERsenative... it would start to read the plastic Edges or ring or that guide around the analog.. I no longer had the issue when I shaved it down.. just used a exacto knife.. all better no problem (felt like the ring on a Xbox controller). and a little loose with the triggers where while you hold it down and leaning your fingers left and right it would (sometimes)still trigger the button as if your pressing it.. I emailed them about the issue.. I got a email back saying thank you for the feedback. 4 mouths later they were Advertising a new version.. cant remember the Number but I bought a 2nd one And this one DOES NOT HAVE ANY issues... and I play that with my steam games emulators and switch. It's even better than before. I had normal CG controllers And replaced all the plastic buttons, and rubber, all the insides are the same speck size. =] Hope that helps.. you can tell that they edited the triggers. Its better. It still has the little trigger issue but I put the metal trigger from the original GC controller and no longer had a problem.. LIKE AT ALL.. in other words the motherboard is working Just fine. Oh! One more thing. There is a Turbo function... light, medium, heavy. But if you reconnect the controller again the setting resets back to what it was. Idk maybe that's why there is no button available for it yet. I also bought the wireless power A controller that takes batteries.. but Y and B are not responding well with lag or no press I brought 3, I have a silver but at mid battery it's just unplayable... Gold, Y and B just Suck I played with it once a purple.. And Z stopped working after a week.. and 1 wired black version after like 6 months.. completely stopped working.. Sry for the loong reply but hope this was helpful.. =] I bought one for my friend and it's still working fine.. =]
How does it hold on time? Is the premature max on the sticks THAT big of a deal? That's what makes me very doubtful about it:/ I wish to use it with my PC as well as my main controller for platformers and certain shooters and all that, but that premature max on the sticks bro... Great video dude!
Nice review been looking for someone to do one. I was gonna do one when I get mine but your review was way better. I hoped though you would have tested PC and a racing game or shooter to see If the Triggers are analog or not. But thumbs up dude and screw that one dislike lol
Travel distance on those trigger is a PRO in my opinion, not a con. It means the button press will activate sooner because you don't have to push through a false travel, like the Power A controller has.
Are the joysticks rubbery or is it kind of plasticy like the powerA controller? Also if you've taken it apart do the sticks have the standard posts or the cheaper metal posts? I enjoy my powerA controller but I am looking for something to replace it for dolphin since it has issues.
@@retrogamingmaniac it's on sale on Walmarts website right now if you want to get one, it's the only controller besides the pro controller that supports amibo that I've seen
My Power A is shit. The C stick no longer works and sometimes the directional stick waks out. I’m so throwing it in the trash as soon as I get this one. Batteries are a real pain
@@retrogamingmaniac thanks for the reply, I ordered them, when I got them, they have terrible sticks. The sticks register that they are at the edge of their movement when the sticks are only 1/2 way towards the outer ring on the controller.... Which for Smash... Means you are sprinting. It makes it very hard to do walking attacks and short movements. IDK what the best kind of movement is, but I prefer to not sprint everywhere I go. Controller felt amazing, but the sticks...
