As an ex-Mormon, I agree that God Makers makes a lot of fair and accurate points about Mormons believe. As a guy who grew up as a Mormon in East Tennessee as a kid in the 80s however, I hate this cartoon because I was bullied by my Southern Baptists classmates for years because of it. I am a really devout Christian (baptist) and I never understood why my parents were so "anti-Mormonism" (I had several Mormon friends who invited me to "Church" and wasn't ever allowed to go with them) but omgoodness I never knew just how extremely heterodox Mormonism actually is in doctrine, rite, and understanding of doctrine. As someone who was an absolute nerd when it came to Ancient Mexican/Mesoamerican history, my eyes noticed at 49:00, that whichever Mormon artist(s) painted those paintings...modeled the "darker skinned indigenous ppl" exactly like Ancient Aztec warriors. Down to the hairstyle, loincloth, even the obsidian swords..huh its weird that the artists "short-hand" for "generic indigenous person" was Aztec warrior lol 😅

In the FLDS we where taught this at an early age and often heard adults openly using the "N" word and where told that inter racial relationships are forbidden.

The Bible is pretty simple to read and understand. The Bible says not to add or take away from it, Deuteronomy 4:2 . I do not understand how the Mormon religion disregards this and many other things that the scriptures teach. The New Testament describes salvation differently than the Old Testament. It also describes salvation, for anyone who asks ,and that salvation is the beginning of a personal relationship with Jesus, who is also God. Therefore, according to the Bible, anyone can pray/speak directly to God, their self, and have a relationship with him that is personal. Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone should hear My voice and open the door, then I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. So there is no need to go to a priest or a prophet or anyone else for confirmation because people can do that at any time anywhere they want, and God can speak to them as well. Most religions stem off of the Bible in someway but from what I can see that separates all the other religions from just focusing on the Bible itself is the scripture in Deuteronomy posted above.

Attended the Mormon church as a child for a few years in the 1960’s. At that time Coca Cola was banned. At some point the ban was reversed and word was the church had acquired a financial interest in the company and that was the reason for the reversal.

Something I learned a while beck: If you want to know what's wrong with a particular religion, ask their competition. They'll be about 85% right. Where they lose it is where they say, "Therefore, my belief is right..." So learn to ignore that last part, and you're good. But that's easy, because their competition is out there as well. This video did a good job on Mormonism, and Jack Chick, nutter that he is, did a good tearing up Catholicism.

I moved to a small town on the other side of my state when I was in my 20's. I needed work and lodging, and I didn't have experience or more than a high-school education at the time. So I put an ad out offering to serve as a live-in nanny, housekeeper or elderly/disabled care-giver. The ad was answered shortly by an older man, who seemed alright at the time, and approved of my religious faithfulness. I would have my own room, board, a few hundred dollars a month, and Sundays off guaranteed. My first day there, he showed me that he was reading from the book of Mormon. Then he started making very inappropriate personal inquiries. He also seemed very physically independent and any time I asked if there was work I could do, he told me no, I should just take it easy for the afternoon. I waited until he went down for a nap, gathered my few belongings and went to his next door neighbor for help getting ahold of some friends I had in town. They picked me up as soon as they could, and while I was waiting for them the neighbor confessed that they always got a strange vibe off the guy. I count myself lucky that he had such nice neighbors.

I am a Christian and I watched this "cartoon" when I was younger. And I thought "WHAT! That is so made up." Since then I have grown up and watched your videos. I now know that there are people who believe things like this. Some of it though still sounds crazy. Especially the part about Jesus and Lucifer being brothers.

When I finally did, I already knew it- it's the tune of "The Star of the County Down," a traditional Irish song. Now every time I hear that song, I (a complete non-Mormon) think of Kolob.

It "amazes" me how wrong religion has been with skin color, calling dark skin tone some sign of sin, when in reality dark skin is a blessing as protection from the harmful effects of the sun, less chance of getting skin cancer

I read recently that the LDS church's lifting of the ban on black men holding the priesthood in 1978 led to a significant exodus of people defecting to the Apostolic United Brethren and that, moreover, many fundamentalist groups still ban black men from holding the priesthood. So it wasn't just polygamy that Mormon fundamentalists kept, but racism too!

The soda issue - I read that soda was banned also and it was due to the caffeine, but the rules were relaxed to make soda okay when Mitt Romney ran for President, and he was photographed drinking soda. Don't know how true the timing is, but it seemed feasible!

I've never been Mormon, but I've studied it extensively from the outside. One particularly useful resource I found, a book called "One Nation Under Gods" by Richard Abanes, had an interesting side-by-side comparison between the ancient Egyptian illustration from the "Book of Breathings" that Joseph Smith purchased and reconstructed bits of (as it was missing several parts) seen at the upper left of the screen at 13:29 of this video, and another copy that was found fully intact. It's actually quite amusing seeing what Smith's "reconstruction" of the scene got wrong. Highlights include: - Putting a light-colored man's head on the dark colored standing figure, which was actually the jackal-headed Egyptian god Anubis - Adding a knife in that figure's hand - Drawing a bird's head on the bird-bodied spirit above the reclining figure's head (which was actually a man-headed, bird-bodied representation of the reclining figure's soul) - Depicting the reclining figure's clothing as covering him to the neck, when in fact it only covered him up to the waist. - Leaving the upper middle of the illustration, which was missing from Smith's copy, largely empty, other than the standing figure's knife-wielding hand. In the original illustration, that area is much busier, as there is a bird figure hovering above the torso of the reclining figure. The only part of that hovering bird that was still on Smith's copy was the tip of one of its wings, which Smith mistook for being the reclining figure's left hand, and thus drew the reclining figure as holding both hands up near its face, when in fact in the original drawing, the figure was only holding one hand near his face, and other left hand was down by his waist, holding his "bits"!

As a former LDS, there's a number of beliefs that I chafed at. Some of the big ones: the faithful become gods, the white, blue eyed perfect people and one of the biggest is polygamy with women becoming 'baby machines of the universe'. One wife is more than enough....take my word for it!

At one point my mother had the fine idea that I join Mormonism to "boost my confidence," since, "They tell their sons they are going to be gods!" Many people could use a self-esteem boost in their younger years, but it might have overshot things a bit to believe that I would one day be nothing less than...a God! Bwahaha

I've never been mormon, but I imagine it must be really common, both for current and ex mormons, to have huge hangups around sex they struggle to get past. My mom has nearly joined a lot of cults because she "really liked that they had a sense of community." My favorite options of hers were proper amish and mormons. Luckily she never could have believed in god and stuff like this cartoon certainly didnt help, but it does make me wonder if i would still end up the way i am today if i had been raised mormon or amish.

I grew up Pentecostal and deconstructing my old religion and faith has been really difficult. So your videos have been really comforting and honestly funny as hell. My church’s doctrine was pretty different but still insanely strict and a lot of core values are identical. When you were doing just reels or TikTok’s I kept hoping you’d eventually do some long form videos because I had many notes to compare 😂 So thank you for making the content you do.

K so a few doctrine questions. I'm an ex mormon as well, did the whole mission thing then realized that I hated the god I was worshipping lol. Became an atheist and have no regrets lol. Question 1: Mormon's have a purpose on earth. To learn and go and prepare to become gods. But what's the purpose of eternity? Like, why do mormons work to become gods. I suppose being a god is cool? Except its really not. I mean you get to be a parent with "perfect love" for all of your children, oh but you never get to see the vast majority of them as they are destined to live in either the telestial or terrestrial kingdoms, which you yourself can never go visit. Not only that but you get to watch billions of your children, who, again, you love infinitely, suffer some of the worst fates possible. You get to watch your kids get raped, and tortured, abused, killed in combat, etc. Like, being a mormon god would honestly really suck. So why would you want to be a god? Is there some sorta higher purpose? An infinite number of intelligences that need to be filtered out and turned into either gods or servants? If so, then being a god isn't a family, but a manufacturing business. To wrap up, what is the purpose of being a god and living for eternity. Eternal life must have a purpose, or I'd rather not exist that long lol. Question 2: A third of the host of heaven followed Lucifer. But like, why? I mean some dude walks up and is like, "hey yall wanna be slaves" and billions of people are like, "hell ya!!!" Like what? I get that maybe because becoming a god is a near impossible task and if you fail you get to be a servant essentially. So maybe they were like, "Ima a be a slave regardless so I might as well shoot my shot and be a god and slave instead of just a slave. To back up a bit, I guess I'm getting ahead of myself, but like I heard that those who don't make it to the highest tier of the celestial kingdom, eg married in le temple and all that end up being servants. Is that doctrinally accurate? Question 3: What is the definition of perfect wisdom? So the mormons believe that god is perfect and that to become gods they essentially have to become perfect in the celestial kingdom. Like perfect in every way. It's not enough to not break the rules, a mormon god has to have perfect love, and perfect wisdom, and I would go so far as to say perfect strength and perfect health (immortality). That being said what is wisdom in the mormon context. Wisdom is knowing right from wrong. But wait that's not all! Wisdom is also knowing the difference between something good, something better, and knowing the best thing. The more wise you are, the more "best things" you know. So perfect wisdom must mean knowing the best choice in every situation right? Cuz how could you be a perfectly wise god if you choose something that has a 70% chance of success when there was another option that had a 90% chance of success. In other words, having perfect wisdom must mean knowing the best thing to do at any given time. Being perfectly wise must mean knowing how to best spend every minute of every day. When does that encroach upon individuality and having a separate identity? If everyone knows the best thing to do every day all day then in order to be perfect they have to (or are forced to by their own perfection) do that "best thing." Which means that in every given situation everyone would do the exact same thing, that is the say the single most wise thing to do in that given situation. Which then means that gods are all, at least in terms of personality, essentially clones of one another right? So to summarize, perfect wisdom means surrendering individuality. Your thoughts? Question 4: This one I'm sure you've heard before. Why does god (any god from any bible/book of mormon religion) change from chapter to chapter in the scriptures? I mean, in the old testament a dude got zappified from pulling out early during sex (Gen 38:8-10). But then the same god, jehovah, also known as yawe, and to the mormons also known as jesus, later talks about forgiving adulterers and all that shit. Like make up ya mind dude, either people deserve to die for pulling out or people don't deserve to die for even greater things like biblical rape. Like I mean, how can the bible or/and book of mormon be only about one god/godhead? Question 5: The all too popular theological question of does the mormon god know the future? There are all sorts of crazy answers to this question and I just wanted to know your thoughts lol. Cuz like, if god sees all possible futures, then wouldn't he be able to control minute details in order to maximize the number of people that ultimately make it to godhood? At what point does that encroach upon individual agency? And if god doesn't know the future, then how is he all knowing?

The overuse, and misuse is the word "Wherefore" proves the whole book wrong, by that alone. Wherefore means "Why?" like, "Why are you Romeo?" In the book, Joseph uses it to mean "Because".

I grew up in Provo, and I remember my friend explaining this racist doctrine (30:00) as though it were actual fact. I was a kid, so it must've been in the early eighties. I'm not sure when they changed their public stance, but I get the feeling that privately they don't change their weird beliefs at all. On the other hand, though most of the kids shunned and/or taunted me at school for not being Mormon, had the bishop of our "Ward" been a bit more cunning he might have won me over with the promise of legions of hot blonde women who would worship me in the afterlife as I ruled my own planet like the Kwisatz Haderach for all eternity. Instead, he said to me, "You know, you've taken on the likeness of the lord Jesus Christ" (I was playing bass in a rock band), "don't you think it's time you started acting like him?" If he had just TOLD me about the space groupies I would've been ALL IN!

I am 47 years a Christian, living only by my Bible, failing at it in my own ways as much as anyone, trying to be the kind of person that God might say "well done, good and faithful servant. I wouldn't want a different life, whatever Christian faith might bring me. That being said, it's easy to see how a very wrong kind of religious experience can lead you where you are. Lucifer in the Catholic Church and other denominations: He was an angel, perhaps a Seraphim, cast out by Michael, an archangel. Not on the same level of Jesus, part of the Trinity and, thus, God. Lucifer in Mormonism: He can probably match Jesus, what with being His brother and wanting to help humanity instead of corrupt them, initially.

I have a good friend who is a Disciples of Christ minister. They believe strongly in fostering inter-denominational and interfaith fellowship. As such, he attended this huge symposium where nearly all christian denominations were represented. The mormons were there. He said for 3 days, they all discussed theology, trying to find a way to include mormons in the Christian coalition... but were forced to conclude that theologically, mormons just are not christians. Like, a bunch of very diverse christian theologians TRIED to find a loophole for them, and couldnt 😂 mormons are just not christians.

When I was 14 years old our youth group decided to do a "comparison" of different religions as compared to Christianity. I chose Mormonism, as I had several Mormon friends in school. So I went to that early seminary class with then, on the bus (remember that bus!). All was well until the seminary teacher began to teach about how satan was Jesus' brother! I lost it and began to debate the teacher on that point! And at one point in that debate, I flat out told him he was insane and was going to hell to meet satan first hand! At which pojnt I was kicked out and forever shunned by the Morman church! (Still am as it was forever! I'm 74 at this time!). They tried to make me walk back to town, 5 miles! I lied and told them my dad was a policeman and they desided I could ride back if I sat on the bottom step of the door entrance to the bus. That bus driver opened the door to the bus 3 times on the way back to town! God was with me. I did tell my Pastor and youth group about the whole thing in my oral report! Don' know and don't care if anything happened to that teacher or the demented, insane bus driver!

As an Anglican (though I view denominations more as variations of worship style, rather than doctrinal differences, within the protestant part of the church), I don't disagree with calling Mormons 'Christian' because they're 'crazy', but because of key theological differences that completely changes the point of their faith, compared to those taught in Christianity.

The weird irony about who made the cartoon and their likely objective is that every religion is filled with allegory and iconography. One group trying to "out" another group because of the differences in their respective metaphorical universes is simultaneously "well, duh" and "pot, meet kettle".
