The 'El Dorado' live stage brought us 'Lightsaber' in collaboration with Disney to promote Star Wars: The Force Awakens. They only do this song in concerts because they don't want to take away the grandness of the performance.

Another example of why EXO shows are so above par. El Dorado is a stellar song and is amazing live. Whether it's the Seoul show or Tokyo, they're both amazing. Gravity is one of my favourites, missed D.O. and Xiumin though.

i think you have a valid point there. their live performances hit different and make you appreciate their songs more because , of course, live vocals with amazing dance choreographies and some songs were remixed. add to that their lit stages. Did you mention that it could also be because they're EXO? i don't know what sorcery these boys got but the group is just exquisite for me, talent and visual wise 👑 thank you, as always, for this reaction 😊

El Dorado, according to legend, is a city that was supposedly located in Colombia and was made of gold. El Dorado is spanish and means The Golden One, that's why they are dressed in that color and the background images are of the supposed lost city.

Personally I feel a different type of connection with EXO after having seen them live. It's such an unforgettable experience that I'll always treasure no matter how much I may distance myself from kpop as a whole. Love them always and I can't wait for the reunion tour.

El Dorado is a mythical city made of gold. El Dorado means the gold or the golden one in Spanish. The Spanish conquerors started the rumor of the city, after learning of the Indian king El Dorado who, according to legend, was covered in gold. So what you saw as part of the background in this performance, was in the beginning the golden gates of the city were there and as the performance went on the gates opened to reveal the mountain and SM's depiction of what they think the city of El Dorado might look like. (LOL which could be Kwangya in SM's storyline.) That is why EXO was all in gold outfits, and I think the lights they danced around were to represent objects they had to navigate through in their search for the city. Finding the city is thought to possibly help to reveal something they need or clues to help them locate the Tree of Life, etc. At the end when they make the X with the light sticks it's to represent the X in EXO, but it's also to represent the X you would find on a treasure map that marks where the treasure would be. In the end X marks the spot and EXO is the treasure. LOL Legends have it that El Dorado is a magical city that can only be found by those who it wants to find it, and some stories say it could have something to do with aliens or otherworldly beings. That's why this song works so well for EXO because, as you know, EXO's origin story is that they are aliens from Planet Exo who came to Earth with superpowers in order to protect the mythical Tree of Life. That's why in this song some of the English lines are "Sail, sail, sail ... got to go, go, go" ... "got to find, find, find ... El Dorado," etc. Fun fact: It is thought that Lay's solo "Namanana" MV storyline might be connected to "El Dorado's" story. (We see a giant ship sailing through the sky in "Namanana" which is thought to possibly be connected to the fact that in "El Dorado" they are talking about sailing to find El Dorado.) In real life, explorers and Indiana Jones-type treasure hunters are always searching for the lost city of El Dorado thinking if they ever find it, it will be the key to riches and gold. There have been several fictional movies made about the search for El Dorado and there even have been TV programs and documentaries, etc. about real life explorers who have searched for the city thinking they can prove it was a real place and, at least in part, the stories could be true. EXO's "EL Dorado" performance is also what has been said, inspired Disney to ask SM and EXO to collaborate with them to produce the song and MV for EXO's "Lightsaber" as a promotion for their Star Wars movie "The Force Awakens". Fun fact No. 2: Disney has also done adaptations of the El Dorado story over the years with movies and TV shows, etc. I think in reality, El Dorado was a Mayan city that was located on or near a gold minefield, so the city and Inca people who lived there were rich with golden objects made from the tribe's gold. So treasure hunters and explores are looking to find the city's location in the hopes of finding the hidden treasure left behind by its ancient inhabitants, etc. This was only one song out of a 4 or 5 song set in a concert where they probably performed 20 to 30 songs for 3+ hours straight. So, if you think this performance was epic, just wait until you see the full concert. :D

This live stage of El Dorado with Chen and Baekhyun's vocals hitting the stratosphere will always be iconic, RJ. I'm glad you picked out "Gravity" from SM Town in Tokyo as it's the best version in my opinion. EXO walking down that ramp like the K-Pop kings they are! We were served with superb vocals in spite the high octane choreography of this track. I won't tire of saying this: EXO never disappoints!

I did hear that for a lot of singers they will train singing while running on treadmills to gain smooth technique while still working out. There is a computer science guy that has written an algorithm that assesses the steadiness of idols vocals while performing and I think exo were in the 90’s. Taemin was I think 98%. How I wish we had multiple full stages of El Dorado, it along with thunder are my favs. I love lots of EXO but deff those two 🥺💖

El Dorado is epic. They also have a Chinese verion in the Exodus album that we might not be able to hear it live. Btw, that's also the last album where they have an EXO-K and EXO-M version on all songs. So, listen to it on your own time. You can listen to the album that features their lives stages over iTunes or Spotify.

RJ thank you so much for your reaction to EXO. . Live concerts are supposed to be staged differently from a MV or a stage performance. You should have just watched them a second time to read the lyrics we would have enjoyed watching it again with you discovering the meanings of the songs because you can’t watch EXO once with so much going on the visuals 🤩🤩 the Choreography, the vocals.. it’s just excitement over load. all of their live performances are perfectly and dramatically staged with elaborate staging and props and incredible backgrounds with extra backup dancers, flags and moving stages. SM Entertainment doesn’t do anything half that’s why EXO’s concert tickets sell out a whole stadium in .02 seconds! They hold the world record for that. El Dorado is the mythical city of Gold completely made of gold that everyone is searching for. If you read the lyrics and watch the background and listen to CHANYEOLs rap lyrics( google Eldorado ) it will explain the song meanings. Also Gravity is one of my favorite B-side and performances . Again (I will watch it again with you a thousand times to read the lyrics as you reaction shows you get it👍🏼)The videos you choose had the lyrics on the screen most do not so you are giving us your viewers a chance to read and understand. Even if you listen to the songs on the album the live performance are so totally lit . El Dorado is a master piece. It is one of those songs that the more you listen the more impact it has. Also I agree about the impact of a song after you see a live version. Some songs I listen to so much more after I hear them live or see a live stage on video.

Although missing some members in Gravity, they never disappoint. The vocals are still amazing as well as the choreography. What’s sad is that it will be a several years before all members of EXO are back together again. I believe that 4 are currently in military, Baekyun, Chanyeol, Suho, and Chen and there’s still Sehun and Kai who will need to go at some point. For those of us who’ve never been to their concert and hope and dream to see them live one day (it’s ok to dream! LOL) so glad we have these videos to watch. I can only imagine the energy at these concerts, so many fans!!! I would certainly fit into the more mature audience but music is ageless no fan is to old to appreciate talent!

You have to try seeing them performing live in the Award Show…such as Melon Music Award (MMA), MAMA, SMA. You will not disappointed. They were standing like the Award Shows are their own concerts. I recommend to start with Melon MMA 2017 in which they performed Forever, the eve, and Kokobob. What a boy group.

You'll hear stories about Kpop trainees running on treadmills during vocal practice to increase stability during choreo. I don't know how many Kpop entertainment companies do that, but I know that SM Entertainment really does that, and EXO was one of those groups. And you are not alone about EXO live performances being better than the studio versions. The only studio album I listen to is Obsession, and the rest are live shows. EXO live vocal performances have more energy, and the arrangements are simpler and have more groove. Especially with EXO's earlier studio tracks, some of the arrangements were too busy and took away from the R&B elements.

I agree with you. I feel it that too, like some of the song are better live than listening in the album. Maybe not that big difference but yeah i kinda agree to that. Like in my case, i prefer seing El dorado, Run this and Drop that live performances than just listening to it.
